Exhausted fishes must be held in the hand in the water until they can swim again. If the hook cannot be released without severely injuring the fish caught, the leader must be cut off short at the fish s mouth and the fish is to be set back into the water. c) The moderate fish which is not subject to being spared and can be taken as a catch, is to be stunned after the catch (blow on the head) and to be slaughtered with the stab of a knife (stabbed through the heart). The fish hook should not be removed before the fish is slaughtered. d) Slaughtering of eels needs no stunning at the back of the head. Eels should be slaughtered by a so-called neck-cut. This transection of the spinal column separates the spinal cord from the brain and is followed by gutting. The neck-cut will not be necessary, if bleeding is caused by directly cutting open the abdominal cavity and immediate gutting. e) It is forbidden to catch more bait fish than necessary. f) It is forbidden to grasp, stab, shoot, tear the fish, catch them with slings, electrical power or explosives, or to apply similar agents, such as toxins and narcotics, and to attract the animals with lights while fishing or to round them up. g) It is forbidden to gut fish caught at the waters. 7.2 Minimum Measures and Closed Seasons Fish Species Minimum measures Closed season Eal 35 cm Perch 18 cm Brown trout 28 cm 15 Oct. to 31 March Pike 50 cm 15 Jan. to 30 April Carp 35 cm
