2012 KARATE CANADA SUMMIT OCTOBER 6 & 7 IN MONTREAL Don t miss the yearly rendez-vous of Canadian karateka!! Dear Karate Canada Members, Please find below summary information pertaining to the 2012 edition of Karate Canada s Annual Summit. Once again, Karate Canada is pleased to host some of the world s most renown experts to lead various exciting and interesting seminars, workshops and conferences. Please note that Karate Canada will also be holding a Senior National Team Training Camp (by invitation only) on the same weekend, also at the Montreal Sheraton Centre Hotel. More detailed information about invited guests and speakers, as well as details about the themes and content of each session will be circulated and posted online shortly. KARATE CANADA S ANNUAL SUMMIT: TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL We are thrilled to confirm that Special International Guests Antonio Oliva Seba (European Karate pioneer and kumite tactics expert) and Javier Mantilla (PKF Referee Committee Chair) will both lead various useful workshops, as well as training and development sessions for athletes, instructors, coaches and referees alike, over the course of both days. 2
1- THE PROGRAM 1.1- PRACTICAL SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS FOR ATHLETES, INSTRUCTORS AND COACHES. With Mr. ANTONIO OLIVA SEBA Mr. Antonio Oliva is one of the pioneers of European Martial Arts, a world leader in the study and teaching of tactics and a founding member of the Centre for Scientific Research on Martial Arts and Combat Sports. His Sports Karate Coaching System is respected and followed the world over. Themes / Workshops : «Improving the confidence of our athletes and breaking the confidence of our opponents.» (Saturday, Oct 6, 10:00 to 11:45 AM) «Pros and cons of today s Jodan Uke & Chudan Tzuki and Chudan Uke & Jodan Tzuki.» (Saturday, Oct 6, 14:00 to 16:30) «Tactical Behaviors for gaining the corner judges support.» (Sunday, Oct 7, Joint Session with Mr. Mantilla and Referees, 11:00AM to 12:30 PM) «Technical & Tactical Training in accordance with the WKF New Rules.» (Sunday, Oct 7, Joint Session with Mr. Mantilla and Referees, 15:30 to 17:00) 1.2-PRACTICAL SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS FOR REFEREES With Mr. JAVIER MANTILLA Former long-time Head Coach of Venezuela s National Karate Team, Mr. Javier Mantilla has served as technical advisor in both kata andkumite to many of the world s leading and rising karate nations. His remarkable experience as an international coach is perfectly complemented by his extensive background as a respected and seasoned international referee. Mr Mantilla, who is currently the Chair of the Pan American Karate Federation s Referee Committee, is a highly sought-after expert consultant, referee, coach and technical advisor, whose international reputation is very well established. He has worked with Karate Canada several times over the last few years, namely as technical director of the 2011 First National Training Camp. Themes / Workshops : Contents to be announced shortly. 1- THE PROGRAM 1.3- BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT FOR DOJO / CLUB OWNERS AND ADMINISTRATORS (WORKING LUNCHES). BUILDING AND IMPLEMENTING AN EFFECTIVE MARKETING PLAN With Mr. JIM MORRISON Master Morrison is a fifth Dan black belt and has been practicing Martial arts for over 25 years. He has trained and competed all over the world and represented Canada on internationally competitive teams. He is currently the owner of a thriving martial arts club in the Barrie, Ontario area, which has rapidly risen to become one of the most financially successful martial arts clubs in the country. This will be Mr. Morrison s 2 nd contribution to Karate Canada s Annual Summit. His dynamic and simple yet effective approach and strategies were warmly received by last year s Summit participants. Outline : Following the success of last year s presentation, Mr. Morrison will now take club owners and administrators to the next level by introducing them in greater depth to key elements of his proven and successful business management model. The 2 part seminar will first include a succinct review of key sales strategies, before focusing on the tangible elaboration of a practical and effective marketing plan aimed at ensuring maximum return on investment for all dojo owners and operators. Day 2 s luncheon seminar will allow participants to further examine these marketing plans together and to share ideas and best practices in a forum-type setting. 3- REGISTRATION PROCESS It is strongly recommended for all Summit and Symposium attendees to pre-register online by September 21 st, thus saving on the cost of registration fees. Online pre-registration will remain open until October 1 st, but all participants who register after September 21 st will need to pay an additional 20$ late registration fee. Please note: Participation Fees for Karate Canada members are $80.00 CAD per person (online pre-registration by September 21 st only; any registration after September 21 st, 2102 will result in an additional late registration fee of 20$) for Referees taking part in Mr. Javier Mantilla s workshops / seminars, and for all coaches, instructors and athletes taking part in Mr. Antonio Oliva Seba s workshops / practical seminars. Participation Fees for non-karate Canada members are $150.00 CAD per person for the Summit and Symposium (not including Working Lunches). Participation Fees for the Working Lunches / Business Seminars led by Mr. Jim Morrison will be 50$ for both days (Saturday and Sunday), including full lunch meals. Please note that online pre-registration is mandatory for participation in these working lunches.
