Course details Swim Water temperature likely to be 21-22 degrees Wetsuits optional Raise one arm above your head if in difficulty or needing assistance Ensure you swim in correct wave (boys/girls separated by five minutes) Race cap must be worn and visible Transition Bike racks will be allocated in age groups. Please use the racks appropriate to your group. Helmet must be fastened before removing bike from rack and remain fastened until bike is re-racked after cycle section. Bikes must be pushed to the mount line on the road and also from the dismount line back to the bike racks. No boxes or large bags in transition. Gear must not extend beyond bike wheel in transition area. Bike Course Roads are closed to the public Please ensure road rules are obeyed, as emergency vehicles may require access. U19 and U16 events are draft legal. Drafting rules will be enforced for U12, U13 and U14 events. You must not discard equipment by handing to supporters or accept equipment, food or drink from supporters. No rubbish or equipment may be discarded on the course. Crossing the centre line will result in disqualification. Key rules Keep left as far as possible, otherwise you risk a blocking penalty Draft zone (for U12, U13 and U14) is 10m long by 3m wide. You have 20 seconds to complete a passing manoeuvre. Once passed you must drop back out of this zone before attempting to re-pass. No passing on the left Penalty for either drafting or blocking is one minute enforced in the penalty box at the entrance to transition. Time taken from when you have both feet on the ground on one side of your bike. Failure to stop after receiving a penalty will result in disqualification. A second penalty on the bike will result in disqualification. School rules apply for equipment rim depth no greater than 45mm and a minimum of 12 spokes. No wheel covers permitted. It is your responsibility to count your laps. You may ask a teacher, parent or supporter to help with this. It is recommended that a race belt or elastic band be used to hold the race number, in which case it can be slipped on during T1 and worn at the back. However, numbers may be pinned on the front of the shirt for the entire race.

No aero bars or clip-ons for draft-legal events. It is your responsibility to count your laps. You may ask a teacher, parent or supporter to help with this. Run course The run course is a loop of approximately 1km. It is run clockwise on a closed, sealed road and a grass section. Your race number must be visible from the front, or you may be disqualified. A race belt or elastic band to hold your race number is recommended, but the number may be pinned on the front. Aid stations There will be one aid station just after the start of the run serving water only. On multi-lap runs you will pass this aid station each lap. There will be an aid station close to the finish line serving water and Pure hydration. Run rules You must not discard equipment by handing it to supporters nor take any equipment or foods/fluids from supporters. You may not be paced by coaches or supporters either on foot or on bikes during the run. However, vocal support from the side of the course and at the finish is encouraged. No head sets are allowed. Aside from the swim, your torso must be covered during the event. Team tag event information Team members should be two girls and two boys, competing in the order girl/boy/girl/boy. However, teams of other compositions may race with the proviso that they will not be eligible for Tri NZ medals. Teams will race in the age group of their oldest member. Please do not warm up on the swim course when racing is underway on the course. Tag your next team member in the zone provided on the beach. Protests Protests must be lodged with the race referee within 30 minutes of you finishing the race. The race referee will be available at the finish line. Other information Although the road is closed, please be aware that emergency or other official vehicles may be on the road. Please take care. In an emergency, alert an official as soon as possible. All officials will be wearing fluoro vests. If you withdraw, please advise race personnel at the finish line. Sponsors
