CEDARBURG SELECT BASEBALL OVERVIEW

CEDARBURG SELECT BASEBALL MISSION To provide opportunities for children living within the Cedarburg, Wisconsin school district to compete at the highest levels in youth baseball while using the game of baseball as a teaching tool to instill proper instruction, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, honesty and integrity. CSB's players are taught to respect the game and their teammates and are instilled with the virtues of working hard and playing hard to establish a set of values that will guide them into adulthood.

CEDARBURG SELECT BASEBALL (CSB) OVERVIEW CSB s legal entity is Cedarburg Baseball Inc. and it operates as a non-profit organization with tax-except status under rule 501 (c)(3) of the US tax code. CSB has no paid employees but instead relies strictly on volunteers. CSB Board Members Chad King, President cking@cedarburgselectbaseball.com Bill Kadrich, Past President Bill.Kadrich@marinebank.com Kevin Abitz, Vice President kjabitz@gmail.com Jim Fitzpatrick, Treasurer jfitzpat22@gmail.com Brandon Hall, Secretary BHall@rwbaird.com Darrin Englebert, Director of Cedarburg Mercs darrin.englebert@gmail.com

CSB STRUCTURE Cedarburg Select Baseball offers varying levels of competition: Local CSB Minors League teams (Grades 3 rd and 4 th ) and Local CSB Majors League teams (Grades 5 th and 6 th ) These teams only play one another with weeknight games and practices (i.e. no weekend commitment). Cedarburg Mercs (U8 thru U14) These are tournament teams with a higher level of commitment including weekend practices and games. We refer to our U13 and U14 Mercs teams as our Senior League. We strive to always have two teams at these levels with all teams playing in the Wisconsin Youth Baseball State League (WYBSL). Most teams will also play in weekend tournaments.

HOW TO BECOME A MERC This is an incremental commitment as all U9 to U12 Mercs (so those in the 3 rd to 6 th grades) are also required to participate in CSB league play. (Please note: This is NOT a requirement of our U8 kids or our U13/U14 kids because we don t offer league play at these levels) Mercs teams are selected each year based on level of interest and the talent pool at each age group. Mercs tryouts are done in conjunction with CSB league try-outs. Players are assessed and graded on various skills. Coaches have only limited discretion with the team roster. We attempt to accommodate as many kids as possible, but cuts are often made. For age levels where we have more than one team, we prefer an A-team/B-team approach rather than splitting up the kids evenly, but there might be exceptions to this rule. The commitment level required of Mercs players/families is higher than those expected of kids only playing on a CSB league team. Practices and games occur on the weekends and we ask that players prioritize baseball over other sports more often than not especially for our A-level teams.

Games and Tournaments Local Weekday League Games scheduled from May thru July 16 Games for Minors 16 Games for Majors 18 to 20 Games for Seniors Cedarburg Mercs Weekend Tournament Games U8 through U14-3 to 8 Tournaments ranging from 12 to 40 games Number of tournaments will vary team to team Potential overnight tournaments for some teams Schedules are finalized by January 31st

Player and Family Expectations Ball players: Attend as many games and practices as possible. Remember, your teammates and coaches are relying on you. Be respectful to your teammates, coaches, opponents and umpires. Hustle Have fun Parents: Support our club and your ballplayer by volunteering, sponsoring, fundraising, and practicing with your child at home.

Team Coaches Each head coach candidate is evaluated and selected on specific criteria and goes through an interview process with a CSB board member(s). Background checks conducted by a 3rd party. Assistant Coaches are selected by Head Coach and approved by CSB board. Coaches will be trained in philosophies, fundamentals and techniques to provide consistency within the program. U8-U14 Head Coaches normally parent, non-paid position.

Playing Time For league play, the goal is to provide equal playing time for all kids with a requirement to play at least one inning in the infield. Limits are set in regards to the amount of innings a player can pitch per game and week. For Mercs teams, positions and playing time are at the discretion of the coaches but the following are good rules of thumb: Teams will adhere to a running batting order (i.e. everyone bats) Playing time will mostly be evenly distributed at the younger age levels with the potential for more disparity at the older levels.

Why CSB League play vs Rec? Higher quality of play thanks, in part, to the inclusion of the Mercs players in league play. Better coaching with all candidates vetted and offered coach-the-coaches clinics and videos. Our annual CSB Halfaer Day at Miller Park. Discounted hitting and pitching clinics at the Bigler indoor facility. Primary feeder program to the high school. Free offseason throwing/pitching clinic hosted by the CHS boys varsity baseball coach, Jack Friess. Championship Saturday.

Club Fees Player fee for 2018 will be: CSB League Play Minors - $250 CSB League Play Majors - $250 Junior Mercs (2nd 6 th grade): League fees (not applicable to the U8s) + $150 + Tournament Fees + Uniforms Senior Mercs (7 th and 8 th grade): $350 + Tournament Fees + Uniforms Groundwork is our secure, online payment system and allows you to pay your team fees either upfront or throughout the season using an auto-pay feature. League fees cover the following: Umpire fees, uniform fees, field supply and maintenance, some shared equipment expense, Jack Friess (Cedarburg High School varsity coach) Camp expenses, CSB day at Helfear Field (the little league field at Miller Park), and club indemnity insurance. Mercs fees cover the following: game/practice field rentals, winter practice gym rentals, league fees, umpire fees, and club insurance. (Please note Mercs uniforms are no longer included in the base fees). $50 deposit due by November 1 st

Scholarship Opportunities We strongly believe all kids should be able to play baseball regardless of financial resources. As a result, we offer needs-based scholarships that can offset some or all of your child s CSB league fees and Mercs fees. Please contact Jim Fitzpatrick (jfitzpat22@gmail.com) with questions.

Fundraisers Proceeds from fundraising initiatives will primarily be reserved for capital improvement opportunities including new or improved ballfields. Previous fundraisers have included a coupon card sale and a Trivia Night. The board is currently evaluating our fund raising needs for the 2018 season and more information will be forthcoming.
