HUSKERS OPEN MARCH AT WICHITA STATE After eight games in Arizona, the Nebraska baseball team travels to Wichita State for a three-game series against the Shockers from Friday to Sunday at Eck Stadium. The series opener is set for Friday at 3 p.m. (CT), while both Saturday and Sunday s games will start at 2 p.m. It is the first three of 20 scheduled games in the month of March for the Huskers. WILKENING, SCHREIBER SETTING THE TONE ON OFFENSE Jesse Wilkening and Scott Schreiber led Nebraska s offense during the month of February and one of them ranks first in most offensive statistical categories for the Huskers. Schreiber is batting.333 and leads the team in hits (10), doubles (3), runs (8) and is tied for first in home runs (1). Wilkening leads the team in batting average (.346) and RBIs (9) and is tied for first in home runs (1). He ranks second on the team with nine hits. Alvarado went 6.0 innings in his last outing on Feb. 23 against Utah. In a no decision, he struck out five Utes and gave up two runs. In the season opener on Feb. 16, Alvarado struck out a career-high nine batters in 4.2 innings against UC Riverside. He gave up one run and didn t factor into the decision. Alvarado earned second-team preseason All-America accolades from Collegiate Baseball and thirdteam recognition from the NCBWA, while also making the NCBWA Stopper-of-the-Year Preseason Watch List. Alvarado was drafted in the 13th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners, but elected to return to Nebraska for his senior season. HUSKERS EYE RETURN TO NCAA TOURNEY IN 2018 Nebraska looks to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years after making it in 2014, 2016 and 2017. In 2017, the Huskers captured their first Big Ten regular-season crown since joining the conference before the 2012 season. NU finished second in the Big Ten on three occasions from 2013 to 2016 before breaking through last season. Nebraska and Indiana are the only two teams to qualify for the eight-team Big Ten Tournament every season since 2012. Nebraska returns six of its position starters from last season, but lost All-American Jake Meyers, who signed with the Houston Astros organization following his junior season at Nebraska in 2017. The Huskers moved to Hawks Field in 2002 after playing at Buck Beltzer Stadium for 23 years from 1979 to 2001. Nebraska holds a 339-121-1 record at Hawks Field. NU has posted a winning record at home in each of the last 16 seasons, and has won 20 or more home games nine times since 2002. This season, the Huskers have 27 home games scheduled, beginning on Thursday, March 8 against Cal Poly. Nebraska has won 60 percent or more of its home games 14 times over the last 16 seasons, including each of the last eight seasons. Since Head Coach Darin Erstad took over in 2012, the Huskers are 110-43 at Hawks Field. He has posted 20-win seasons at home in three of his first six years at Nebraska, including 21-win seasons at home in 2015 and 2016.
