Appendix 1 Qualifying times used to determine level of bursary offered: The number on the top line indicates the age of the student and the numbers in the columns the qualifying times for each age group. For example, the state qualifying time for a 13-year-old in the 50m freestyle is 31.60 seconds and the national qualifying time for a 13-year-old in the 50m freestyle is 28.40 Seconds (Note - national qualifying times for 12 and 13 year olds are the same). * Times current as at April 2017 Note Only the 50m and 100m sprint events are used to determine the bursary level. Qualifying times in longer distance events are not considered. For the time to be considered a student must have achieved the qualifying time when they were the age indicated and the time must have been achieved in the last 12 months (May 2016 to April 2017). For example, if a student was 12 years when they achieved the state qualifying time in December 2016, turned 13 years of age in January 2017 and have not yet achieved the 13 year old state qualifying time, they would be eligible for the Level 2 bursary. Only long course times will be recognised. Students who are not registered with Swimming WA can use times achieved at the school swimming carnival. If you do not know your school-based time, please leave that section blank on the application form and the school will confirm your personal best time. There are no national qualifying times for 50m Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly, as these are not recognised events at the Australian Age Championships. No qualifying times are required for the Level 1 (50 per cent) bursary. A state qualifying time makes a student eligible for a Level 2 (60 per cent) bursary. A national qualifying time makes a student eligible for a Level 3 (80 per cent) bursary. 8
