Next year s team will be committed, disciplined and unified, representing Cedar Park High School in the best possible ways. Please read this packet carefully so you know my expectations and your responsibilities. If you re serious about being on the team next year, it s important to know that this is a YEAR LONG sport and includes the responsibilities of: Leadership -representing the team at all times, showing team spirit, uplifting your teammates, and more. Effort in practice -always pushing hard to improve, in the pool on time, working out and talking in a positive, supportive manner at all times. Attendance -being at every possible practice and meet. Grades for the team members are based on these three categories with the following corresponding weight: 50%, 33%, 17% Be prepared for working harder and performing your best at every competition, continuing Cedar Park s tradition of athletic excellence. Qualifications for the team are solely based upon your tryout. You will know at the end of the tryout if you made the team. The tryout is a graded workout consisting of stroke drills, interval sets, and swimming all four strokes. To qualify, athletes must successfully complete the workout as specified at that time, performing drills correctly, completing all distances, making all intervals, leaving on time, swimming stokes correctly, and more. It is my discretion who will and will not qualify for the team this year. If you qualify to be part of the Cedar Park HS Swim and Dive Team, your experience shall be rewarding and memorable. If you have additional questions, you can call/text me at 512-567-7696, or email me at Lackey_DL@yahoo.com. Dean Lackey Head Coach

Cedar Park HS Swim and Dive Team Membership Financial Responsibility The Cedar Park HS Swim and Dive Team s Booster Club is tremendous. Boosters hold several fundraisers throughout the year. Parents must join the team s booster club and register as volunteers on the Leander ISD website, even if not taking an active role. Booster leadership requests and encourages all boosters to participate during fundraisers, meets, select team events, and other roles. The booster dues primarily pay for lunches at meets. Fundraisers generate the remaining money needed. Most all team expenses are paid by the booster club or by Leander ISD. Due to the personal nature, all swimmer should bring the following necessary items to all practices: practice swim suit, goggles, fins, hand paddles, kick board, nose clip, equipment bag, and pull buoy. Lane Four Swim Shop has this year s requested list of swim equipment, though any vendor and any similar equipment can be used. A team swim suit is required and must be used for most competitions. Order team suits from Lane Four Swim Shop. LISD s swim equipment is limited, though it may substitute until personal swim equipment is attained. Due to normal swim suit wear, athletes are recommended to have a practice suit(s). Any style or color one piece practice suit should be acceptable, as long as it is appropriate. Students wearing inappropriate swim attire may be asked to leave practice. Personal competition suits (a.k.a. speed suits) are acceptable for certain championship competitions toward the end of the season. For all other meets however, team members may only wear our team swim suit. Throughout the year, the team competes many times. Most expected expenses during competitions are paid, though unforeseen or personal expenses will arise. Please be prepared for additional expenses such as entertainment, meet t-shirt, social team outings, or anything else. Certain equipment is issued near the start of the school year, such as warm-ups, team bags/back packs, and possibly other items. Custom team warmups can be ordered through the booster club. Team members are responsible for the care and cleaning of all issued items. All school provided items go back to the team at the end of the school year. Lost or damaged items beyond normal wear and tear may be the responsibility of the athlete to replace or repair. Team shirts, warmups, and other uniformity is required at all meets. For this reason, athletes need to purchase shirts during our fundraiser.
Cedar Park HS Swim and Dive Team Meet and Practice Rules and Requirements All new and existing team members must complete an LISD Athletic Participation packet, which includes a physical and an emergency card. Packets should be downloaded or picked up before any tryout (or practices) participation. Accepted athletes new to LISD are also required to complete a Previous Athletic Participation Form, determining varsity participation. The 2014-2015 Cedar Park HS Swim and Dive Team scheduled to attend 8 regular season meets. Of these, 3 were dual or tri-meets, 4 were varsity invitationals, and 1 was qualified meet. Our meet schedule does not finalize until late August for most meets, and is expected to be similar to last year s schedule. Most meets are on a Friday or Saturday. However, a few late season championship meets are often two day meets with preliminary and final competitions the same day or over two days. TEAM MEMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND ALL ELIGIBLE MEETS, AND ATTEND ALL PRACTICES. One of the following requirements for 2015-2016 Cedar Park HS Swim and Dive Team members MUST be met in order to letter: Attend 90% of the practices and all regular competitions as a 2 nd year team member. Make it to the Regional Championship meet as a 2 nd year team member. Qualify for finals at the Regional Championship meet. For eligibility to compete, athletes must be passing all classes for the prior 6-weeks grading period. Coach Lackey reviews failure reports prior to competitions. Coach Lackey expects all team members to pass all classes every grading period. It s imperative that our team members seek help prior to grades being an issue. We are a team, and we must support and assist each other, but we can t help if we don t know until it s already too late. You are expected to discuss with Coach Lackey any major or quiz grades that are not passing and make every effort to bring those grades to passing. Cedar Park High School allocates 1 st and 5 th periods to swim team as an elective. Some students may be single blocked instead of double. Practices are from 7:00am to 9:00am, Monday through Friday. Unless other arrangement have been made with Coach Lackey, all swimmers must be on time to all practices, and in the pool on time. Dragging behind has a negative effect on the rest of the team. Divers must speak with Coach Lackey about their practice schedule/expectations. Expect practices to start the second day of school unless unforeseen changes occur. At practice, at meets, at swim team occasions/meetings, at all school-related functions, and any other time, all Cedar Park HS Swim and Dive Team members must conduct themselves appropriately in order to maintain team membership and passing leadership grades. Coach Lackey reserves the right to dismiss anyone from practice, a competition, or from the team entirely at any time due to misconduct or any behavior he deems inappropriate, even if not associated with swim team time. Our team members are ambassadors of Cedar Park High School and the community of Cedar Park, and are expected to uphold the highest standard of behavior and propriety at all times.
