Charity of the Day: 26.2 with Donna Foundation A History to Finish It! The 6th Annaul 26.2 with Donna is a private, non-profit organization in Northeast Florida producing the only marathon in the United States dedicated solely to raising funds to end breast cancer. One hundred percent of raised funds and race proceeds for all 26.2 with Donna events, including today s PINK OUT, go to breast cancer research and care. The 6th Annual 26.2 with Donna will be held February 17, 2013, and is expected to draw 12,000 registered runners from all 50 states and more than 20 countries worldwide. Thanksgiving weekend of 2009 marked the inaugural PLAYERS 5K with Donna. Since that time, the partnership with THE PLAYERS to finish breast cancer has grown beyond imagination. The May 5, 2012, PLAYERS 5K with Donna was especially memorable, taking place just days before the start of THE PLAYERS Championship. Participants began at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse and continued along the cart paths through the back nine holes, passing the world-famous island green at 17. Registration included a grounds ticket to today s PINK OUT of THE PLAYERS Championship. To date, the series has raised more than $91,000 for the 26.2 with Donna Foundation. Since its inaugural year in 2008, 26.2 with Donna has contributed more than $2 million to its beneficiaries. Seventy percent of proceeds go to the Mayo Clinic for bench top breast cancer research. Thirty percent of proceeds go to The Donna Foundation to help breast cancer patients with critical financial needs. With the initial contributions from 26.2 with Donna, Mayo Clinic researchers, under the direction of Dr. Edith Perez, recently announced the discovery of a new class of molecular mutation in various forms of breast cancer, a finding that may shed new light on development and growth of different types of breast tumors. Leveraging this data, they Volunteer Spotlight: Anne Nimnicht Celebrating 48 years of service to THE PLAYERS are working on new technologies that will allow them to customdesign treatments for individual patients getting us closer to ending the disease. The 26.2 with Donna thanks THE PLAYERS, its Proud Partner, PwC, sponsors and fans for their support raising funds toward breast cancer research and care. Learn more at www.breastcancermarathon.com. Anne Nimnicht is one of only two female tournament chairman (1997) in THE PLAYERS history, and she is now the longest-tenured volunteer at the event, with 48 years of service. Nimnicht served as tournament chair for the 2010 Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open on the Nationwide Tour (played here at TPC Sawgrass), making her the only person to lead volunteers groups on all three tours that fall under the PGA TOUR umbrella, as she was also the chair of the 1999-2002 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf on the Champions Tour. Q. How did you first get involved in the Greater Jacksonville Open and then THE PLAYERS? A. My family supplied the courtesy cars for the event in 1965, so I helped with the Transportation Committee. I had the honor of driving for Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. I was hooked! Q. What has kept you giving of your time and energy to volunteer at THE PLAYERS over the last 48 years? A. The friendships that I have made over the years have kept me volunteering time and time again. I look forward to renewing friendships and making new ones each year. Of course, the money given to charity is also a big part of wanting to volunteer. Q. What has been your highlight or most memorable moment? A. Being a part of the Pre-tournament Committee is the biggest highlight. To be at the course and watch as the tournament pulls together is amazing. The guys and gals who volunteer for the Facilities Division are just fun to be with. For them, it s not a job. It s fun! Q. What do you look forward to most? A. A new tradition that I really enjoy is the Military Appreciation Day. What a treat to be a part of the salute to our men and women in uniform. The flyover is always spectacular! Being able to say thank you is great. Baptist Health s Operation Hydration Tip of the Day Jeffrey Smowton, MD THE PLAYERS Championship Medical Services Director If you feel symptoms like decreased energy, fatigue, headaches, and dizziness these could be signs of dehydration. Not only does dehydration affect you physically, but also affects your thinking processes. Your body needs water for respiration, perspiration and to clean out toxins as well as for many other processes.

The First Tee Teaching life s lessons through golf Research has shown the primary reason more children, and especially economically disadvantaged children, do not play golf is because of the lack of places that welcome them. In 1997, the World Golf Foundation created The First Tee as a way to bring golf to young people who otherwise would not be exposed to the game and its positive values. Zalika is the perfect example of how access to golf through The First Tee can build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices. When we first met Zalika, she was a bright-eyed, 16-year-old student at Andrew Jackson High School with big dreams of being a pediatric oncologist or a professional golfer. Thanks to The First Tee of Jacksonville, Zalika is well on her way to making her dreams come true. At The First Tee, Zalika found caring mentors, learned life lessons through the game and experienced countless life-changing moments. Armed with the skills and confidence gained from the program, Zalika graduated at the top of her class, earned a college scholarship to attend University of South Florida as a First Tee Scholar and most recently was accepted into medical school. But no matter how far she goes in life, she ll never forget her time at The First Tee. In fact, she returned to The First Tee as a volunteer mentor to give back to the program that has given her so much. It is undeniable that I owe much of my success to The First Tee of Jacksonville, said Zalika. The same perseverance I built practice after practice and round after round is the same perseverance that carries me through my most stressful and doubtful moments in life. And the same confidence I developed as a timid and shy young girl starting the program is the same confidence I use today as a bold, young lady preparing to take on the world. Rallying behind The First Tee, as THE PLAYERS Championship does, means more young people like Zalika will have a brighter future through golf. 2013 Limited-Time Ticket Offer Good-Any-One-Day Grounds Ticket only $35 + tax (normally priced at $55) Weekly Grounds Ticket only $115 + tax (normally priced at $140) On sale today at all Merchandise Tents and in the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse Golf Shop. On sale at these great prices on PGATOUR.COM through Sunday, May 20. The best players on the Nationwide Tour return to Dye s Valley Course for the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open, October 15-21. For more information, visit PGATOUR.COM. Fun for fans at Closing Ceremonies Approximately 7 p.m. When the final putt drops tonight at THE PLAYERS, there s still more to excitement to experience at Closing Ceremonies. Grab one of the open spots on the Lower Clubhouse Lawn to cheer on the new champion as 2011 winner K.J. Choi awards the trophy. The ceremony will be televised live on Golf Channel giving you the chance to be seen on TV and the 2012 winner will also hand out a limited number of signed PLAYERS pin flags. And don t forget, THE PLAYERS will make one lucky mom s Mother s Day wish come true when we draw the winning ticket for THE PLAYERS Mother s Day Car Giveaway at the end of Closing Ceremonies. Mothers can register in Stadium Village, but must be present to win. For official rules, visit Stadium Village.
