Texans figure if they can get their cattle to the railroads, they can sell them in northern markets and earn 10 times their value. The cattle industry began to be run more like a business depending on scientific techniques and management As more ranchers moved into Texas; there was a stwggle for grazing lend. With the in\/ention of barb wire and the windmill, ranchers could now fence off their land and water their cattle in a contained area.,~ This cb~used problems forcing 'il1e Texas legislature to pass law::; that outlawed fence cutting.
