NOTEWORTHY Connecticut Sun vs. washington mystics mohegan sun arena july 8, 217 7 p.m. POINTING THE WAY Veteran point guard Jasmine Thomas, who was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for June 26-July 2, is in the midst of another career year with the Sun. She has already tied her single-season career high with 35 made threes (on 71 attempts), and she ranks fourth in the WNBA in three-point shooting percentage (.3), fifth in assist average (5.) and second on the Sun in scoring (15 ppg). Thomas collected her 7th career assist in the 8-56 win over San Antonio Wednesday, finishing with 1 points and eight assists in limited minutes. Prior to the win at San Antonio, she had made four threes in five of the last six games for the Sun. Thomas set a career-high for assists with 11 in the win over Atlanta on June 1th, and a new career-high for points with 2 in a 6-8 victory over the Seattle Storm (6/2). She has also made some crucial shots this season. At Indiana, Thomas hit a three-pointer with 7 seconds left in a tie game to lift the Sun. Against Seattle, she scored with 33.8 seconds left to put the Sun ahead -8. At New York on June 23rd, her three-pointer with 2. seconds left secured a -8 win. Acquired in a 215 WNBA Draft Day trade with Atlanta for rookie Brittany Hrynko, Thomas leads the team in assists and steals (17), and is second in scoring and made threes. VERSATILE CONTRIBUTIONS Named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for June 1-25, Alyssa Thomas is one of the most versatile forwards in the WNBA. An athletic post who thrives in transition, she can score, rebound and pass, and is also among the best defenders in the league. She tied a franchise record with seven steals at San Antonio, where she also had 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. In the previous game at Indiana, she had 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. That followed 17 points, a career-high nine assists and five rebounds against Seattle (6/2). Thomas has 23 assists in the last three games, and 76 in just 15 games. Her previous career high for a season was 7 in 216. Thomas is averaging 5.1 assists per game, which is tops among post players and better than a number of point guards around the WNBA. At her current pace, she would finish with 168 assists. She had 15 in her three previous seasons, combined. Thomas ranks third on the team in scoring average (13. ppg), second in rebounding (6.2 per game) and leads in steals per game (1.67). She has flirted with triple doubles twice (2 points, eight rebounds, eight assists at Minnesota on June 17; 12 points, eight rebounds, eight assists at New York on June 23). GUARDED OPTIMISM Second-year guard Courtney Williams had another big night at San Antonio, where she finished with 17 points and four rebounds on 8-of-1 shooting Wednesday. Williams had the best night of her WNBA career she had career-highs of 23 points, 1 rebounds and 1 made field goals on the way to her first professional double-double in a win at San Antonio on June 3rd. In that game, Williams made her first six shots from the field while jump-starting a first-half Sun rally. She was 6-of-7 from the field for 13 points in the second quarter alone as Connecticut turned a 27-21 deficit into a -35 halftime lead. In seven games prior to Seattle (6/2), Williams was averaging 17.3 points. She had a big game at New York (), where she finished with 1 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Williams had six points late in the fourth quarter, including a crucial jumper with 5.3 seconds left that snapped an 86-86 tie. She then pulled down a rebound in traffic after New York missed its next shot, and had the assist on a Jasmine Thomas three-pointer that iced the game. Williams started the season by making her first seven shots from the field in a season-opening loss to Atlanta (5/13). BOARD GAMES Second-year center Jonquel Jones had her streak of double-doubles end at four after playing limited minutes in the win over San Antonio. She had new career highs for points and made field goals at Indiana, where she was 11 of 13 from the field for 2 points and 15 rebounds. She is averaging a league-best 12 rebounds per game, and is on pace to challenge the WNBA single-season record of 38 rebounds set by Tina Charles as a rookie with the Sun in 21. In that season, Charles averaged 11.7 rebounds per game. Through 18 games, Charles had 188 rebounds. Jones has 18. Named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played June 12-17th, Jones has reached double figures in rebounds 11 and scored in double figures 12. In the last 11 games, Jones has averaged 17.3 points and 13.1 rebounds with eight double-doubles and 11 made threes. She tied a franchise record with 1 offensive rebounds in the loss to the Sparks (6/27). Below is a game-by-game comparison of Charles in 21 and Jones in 217. With a win over the Stars, Connecticut matched its road victory total from 216. Only Minnesota has more road wins that Connecticut. The win at Indiana marked the third time this season it has prevailed in a traditionally tough venue. The Sun gave Minnesota its only loss of the season in St. Paul, and it beat New York at Madison Square Garden. The Lynx, Liberty and Fever are a combined 16-7 at home through July 7th. The reward for surviving a tough early road schedule will be playing eight of nine at home from July 3-August 25th.

GETTING OFFENSIVE In the last two games, Connecticut has made a combined 72 of 137 (52.6 percent) shots from the field. The Sun made 56.5 percent from the field (3 of 6) against Seattle. The 3 made field goals were the second highest total this season the Sun had 1 in a win at Minnesota on June 17th and tied for third highest in franchise history. The Sun rank second in scoring average (86.5 ppg), and have scored in the s seven this year. During a five-game winning streak that ended in Dallas the longest since the Sun won seven straight from June 7-June 26 of 215 Connecticut averaged 5. points per game on 35.8 made field goals. And the Sun did it short-handed. Morgan Tuck has missed eight straight games with a knee contusion, Lynetta Kizer has missed five games with a back strain and Bentley missed three games playing for Belarus. Through the first four games of the year, Connecticut was averaging 7.7 points per game. Signed to a contract on June 1th, she joined the team the following day. Originally acquired by the Sun for a second round pick in a trade with the Tulsa Shock on June 2, 213, the 6-foot- Pedersen appeared in 8 games for the Sun. She did not play in the WNBA last season. Pedersen played in Italy during this past offseason, helping Lucca capture the Italian League Series A championship in four games over Familia Schio. UNWELCOME INTERRUPTION Veteran forward Lynetta Kizer was on a roll before a back injury in practice sidelined her for five games from 6/1-6/25. In the three games prior to her injury, she had averaged 11.3 points and seven rebounds including a strong performance off the bench at Washington (5/31), finishing with 12 points and season-highs of eight rebounds and four steals. Against the Dream, Connecticut was outscored -2 in the last 2:5 of an 81-7 loss. At Indiana, the Sun were outscored -7 in the last 1:3 of the game. At Indiana, the Sun led by 1 in the first minute of the fourth quarter, but were outscored 2-1 in the last 1 minutes. At Minnesota (), the Sun rallied from a nine-point deficit in the final two minutes, but was unable to get off a shot in the last 18.6 seconds. TUCK SITS Morgan Tuck sat out her 11th straight game because of a knee contusion in the win over San Antonio. She is currently listed as day-to-day. Tuck opened the season with a career-high 21 points in a loss to the Atlanta Dream. She had her first career double-double at Minnesota (12 points, 1 rebounds), and is averaging 11.8 points per game. As a rookie in 216, Tuck appeared in 26 games with three starts but hurt her left knee in Atlanta on August 28th. She had surgery to repair cartilage damage on September 13th. TERRAPIN STATION With the trade for Lynetta Kizer and the selection of Brionna Jones with the eighth overall pick in the 217 WNBA Draft, the Sun now have three Maryland players on the roster.
