You need to collect the glasses and store them in boxes. Boxes are available from me if you need them. They are stored in Vancouver Chinatown manor 1. After you have collected a sizable load, you can contact Lion Barry Shiles of Surrey, barryshiles@dccnet.com to arrange a convenient time for pickup. Lion Barry will then contact a friend who operates a commercial transport that has room for the load to be taken free to Canadian Eye glasses Recycling Centre in Calgary. This saves the Lions much money to ship these used eye glasses. At CLERC the volunteer Lions staff sanitize, grade and catalogue the glasses for distribution. Please keep a record of the number of glasses you have collected. If you need boxes for your collection, send me an email, jimho1947@hotmail.com, and we can arrange a mutually convenient time to pick up the boxes from Chinatown manor 1. Besides, in order to appreciate those optical companies that are supporting this project, their names would be printed on the District Convention Program book to recognize them. Please provide the information to DG Grace. liongrace@ymail.com Yours in Lionism Lion James Ho, 19A Sight Awareness Co-Chairperson Vancouver Chinatown Lions Club Congratulations to the following Lions for accomplishing the Certified Guiding Lions Course from July 1st to September 30, 2107: PDG Rita Fok, Vancouver Pacific Lions Club A4 ZC Kenneth Copping, Prince Rupert Lions Club Page 4

MEMBER TRANSFER REPORT GUIDELINE: When a member transfer request was received at Lions Clubs International (LCI) headquarters for a lion member, according to the LCI Constitution and By Laws, Article XI, Section 8, that "no person shall simultaneously hold membership, other than Honorary or Associate, in more than one Lions club." In order to complete the transfer, the lion has to be dropped from his home club roster within 14 days of this notification. It can be reported the member dropped through MyLCI at http://mylci.lionsclubs.org or by submitting a Monthly Membership Report to the Member Service Center via the contact information below. If a manual report is sent, please insure that it signed by the officiating club officer. If LCI has not received a member drop request within 14 days from the date, this member will automatically be changed from an Active member to an Associate member of your club through an automated process. Member Service Center Lions Clubs International Email: MemberServiceCenter@lionsclubs.org Phone: 630-203-3830 - Fax: 630-571-1687 Dear DG Grace, There is a lot of misinformation going around about how disaster donations work. There has been no change from the last time we corresponded. LCIF provides funding for all disasters now through the general disaster fund. While Lions can send in their donations and indicate a designation such as hurricanes or wildfires, ultimately it all goes into and come out of the General Disaster Fund. We are using designations simply to track what may be sent in for a specific disaster such has hurricane or fires. Currently LCIF is funding several disasters and that may include the wildfires if the Lions in the affected areas have approached us for emergency relief grants. We would not be able to provide the funding for all of these disasters if the funds are designated or restricted to a specific disaster. Then the funds could only be collected and provided for what they have been restricted for and there is no flexibility with offering assistance to more than one disaster. Restricted donations are not eligible to receive Melvin Jones Fellowship credits unless through a board directive there is a policy change. The General Disaster fund works cyclically in that we are constantly providing grant funding for disasters from that fund and donations that come in and are designated for disaster relief, replenish the funds we have given. I have to tell you having now worked with Lions through several disasters here in LCIF that the change to a general disaster fund is a much more efficient and financially effective way to provide resources than the old restricted way. I hope this answers your questions and provides clarification. Please let me know if additional information is needed.
