Driver Operator Pumps: Water Supplies 2 Skills Total NFPA 1002, Standard for Driver Operator Professional Qualifications, 2014 Edition
Driver Operator Pumps: Water Supplies Skills Book JPR NFPA 1002 Task: Driver Operator: Pumps Water Supplies 1 Relay pumping from a Hydrant 5.2.2 2 Relay pumping from a Static Water Source 5.2.2
SKILL SHEET # 1 Relay Pumping from Hydrant Performance Evaluation: The evaluator shall verify the candidate has the ability to pump a supply line of 2½ or larger so that the correct pressure and flow are provided to the next pumper in the relay. JPR: 5.2.2 NFPA 1002, 2014 Edition Instructor s Statement STEPS FOR SKILL COMPLETION 1. Properly positions apparatus and sets apparatus park brake. 2. Correctly shifts pump transmission to pump operation. 3. Places truck transmission in proper gear. 4. Accesses the water supply source. 5. Checks transfer valve for correct position (if applicable). 6. Effectively switches from internal water source to hydrant source. C7. Builds pump pressure to the correct pressure for the relay supply line. C8. Correctly adjusts pressure on the supply line after checking with receiving pumper for a 20 to 50 psi intake pressure on the receiving pumper if necessary. 9. Correctly sets the pressure control device. Tasks: Position a fire department pumper to operate at a fire hydrant, set up for relay operations, appropriately make the transition between internal and external water sources, provide correct pressure and flow to the next pumper in the relay. The candidate, given a relay pumping evolution, the length and size of the line, and the desired flow and intake pressure, shall pump a supply line of 2½ or larger so that the performance steps are completed. Equipment Required: Fire department pumping apparatus, relay pumping evolution parameters, 2½ or larger supply hose for relay operations, fire hydrant Critical Skills are identified by a bold type C. Any candidate that fails to complete a critical skill shall receive an unacceptable completion for the entire Practical Skill Sheet. Safety: A safety violation is grounds for automatic failure. All proctors present shall review the safety violation. 10. Monitors the pump operation for potential problems checks for excess heating of pump and engine, demonstrates use of pump cooling valve and auxiliary cooling valve. Total Initial Retest Yes No Yes No Score needed to pass 6
SKILL SHEET #2 Relay Pumping from Static Water Source Performance Evaluation: The evaluator shall verify the candidate has the ability to pump a supply line of 2½ or larger so the correct pressure and flow are provided to the next pumper in the relay. JPR: 5.2.2 NFPA 1002, 2014 Edition Instructor s Statement Tasks: Operate a fire apparatus in compliance with applicable state & local laws and departmental rules & regulations. Position a fire department pumper to operate from a static water source, set up for relay operations, appropriately make the transition between internal and external water sources, provide correct pressure and flow the next pumper in the relay. Equipment Required: Fire department pumping apparatus, relay pumping evolution parameters, 2½ or larger supply hose for relay, static water source and appropriate equipment for operating from static water source. Critical Skills are identified by a bold type C. Any candidate that fails to complete a critical skill shall receive an unacceptable completion for the entire Practical Skill Sheet. Safety: A safety violation is grounds for automatic failure. All proctors present shall review the safety violation. STEPS FOR SKILL COMPLETION 1. Properly positions apparatus and sets apparatus park brake. 2. Correctly shifts pump transmission to pump operation. 3. Assembles hard suction hose as necessary. 4. Operates primer and primes centrifugal pump. 5. Operates auxiliary cooling system. 6. Assembles hose lines, nozzles, valves, and appliances as necessary. 7. Checks position of transfer valve if applicable (multi-stage pumps). C8. Builds pump pressure to correct pressure for relay supply line. C9. Correctly adjusts pressure on supply line after verifying with receiving pumper for a 20 to 50 psi intake pressure on the receiving pumper if necessary. 10. Correctly sets the pressure control device. 11. Monitors the pump operation for potential problems. Total Initial Retest Yes No Yes No Score needed to pass 8
