Composition / Information on Ingredients Component CAS # % Glycerine, Refined 56-81-5 99.50 min This product contains no hazardous materials 3. Hazards Information NFPA Code: Health-1, Flammability-1, Reactivity-0 HMIS Code: Health-1, Flammability-1, Reactivity-0 Emergency Overview This product has been evaluated and does not require any hazard warning on the label under OSHA criteria. Low hazard for usual industrial or commercial handling by trained personnel.
Page 2 of 6 Inhalation: Eye Contact: Skin Contact: Ingestion Inhalation of mist may cause respiratory irritation May cause minor transient eye irritation. A single prolonged exposure is not likely to result in the material being absorbed through skin in harmful amounts Single dose oral toxicity is low. Amounts ingested incidental to industrial handling are not likely to cause injury, however, ingestion of larger amounts may cause injury. Signs and symptoms of excessive exposure may be central nervous system effects and increased blood sugar levels. 4. First Aid Measures Eyes: Skin: Inhalation: Ingestion: 5. Fire Fighting Measures Flash Point: Flammability Limits: Auto ignition temperature: Flammability Classification: In case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes with cool water for at least 15 minutes. Do not let victim rub eyes. Obtain medical information if pain, blinking, tears or redness persist. Wash exposed area of skin with soap and water. If skin irritation or an allergic skin reaction develops, get medical attention. Immediately remove victim to fresh air. If victim has stopped breathing, give artificial respiration, preferably by mouth-to-mouth. Get medical attention immediately. For overexposure, call a physician or poison control center promptly. 199 o C min. (Tag closed cup) None known 370 o C Slight hazard: Material must be preheated before ignition will occur (OSHA Class IIIB)
Page 3 of 6 Extinguishing media: Agents approved for Class B hazards (e.g. dry chemical, carbon dioxide, foam steam) or water fog Special Firefighting Procedures: Firefighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus in the positive-pressure mode with a full headpiece when there is a possibility of exposure to smoke, fumes or hazardous combustion products. Unusual Fire & Explosion: Water and foam may cause frothing when applied to flammable liquids having flashpoints above 100 C. This remark is included only as a precaution and does not mean water or foam should not be used in fighting such liquids. The frothing may be quite violent and could endanger the life of the firefighter particularly when solid steams are directed into hot burning liquid. On the other hand, water spray carefully applied has frequently been used with success in extinguishing such fires by causing the frothing to occur only on the surface and this frothing action blankets and extinguishes the fire. Hazardous Combustion Products: Combustion can produce CO and or CO2 6. Accidental Release Measures If material is released or spilled: Absorb spill with inert solids such as sand or soil; sweep up and dispose of in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. For large spill, dike around spill and pump into suitable containers. 7. Handling and Storage Practice reasonable care and caution. Store in closed containers between 64 F and 130 F Keep away from oxidizing agents, excessive heat, and ignition sources Store and use in well ventilated areas away from moisture intake Do not store or use near heat, spark, or flame, store out of sun
8. Exposure Control & Personal Protection Page 4 of 6 Exposure Guidelines: PEL TWA: 10mg/m (glycerine mist-total dust) TWA: 5 mg/m (glycerine mist-respirabe fraction) TLV TWA: 10mg/m (glycerine mist) Personal Protection: Respiratory: Protective clothing: Engineering controls: Other protective measures: Avoid breathing mist. If ventilation is inadequate, use NIOSH/MSHA certified respirator that will protect against dust/mist. Chemical splash goggles and/or face shield must be worn when possibility exists for eye contact. Wear gloves and protective clothing, which are impervious to the product for the duration of anticipated exposure if there is potential for prolonged or repeated skin contact. General ventilation Employees must practice good personal hygiene, washing exposed areas of skin several times daily and laundering contaminated clothing before re-use. 9.
