WHO ARE WE? RUMS Netball consists of around 70 strong fun, friendly medics from Freshers right the way up to 6th years. We cater for anyone! From those who have never played Netball before and just fancy staying active with fun training sessions with friends and social matches, right the way through to those who have played Netball professionally and want regular exciting competitive matches against other university teams all over the South-East region. With a packed calendar of regular varied social events and an annual tour, you are guaranteed to make close like-minded friends from throughout the medical school to support you on and off the court throughout your busy Uni career. TEAMS + MATCHES We have six teams with the opportunity to play either biweekly or weekly matches for your team. We also have three big annual tournaments open to all! LEAGUE MATCHES MONDAYS LUSL League/Social League WEDNESDAYS BUCS League/Social League Home Matches: Highbury Fields, Highbury (5mins from H+I Tube) Home Matches: Ferndale Sports Centre, Brixton (5mins from Brixton Tube) Matches take place between 6-9pm Matches take place between 2-5pm OUR ANNUAL SOCIAL TOURNAMENTS CHI CUP! December 2014 1 st years compete against 2 nd years in this exciting battle of the years. ALUMNI CUP! January 2015 Our old girls return to compete against our current squad. LUMSDEN CUP! April 2015 The hugely popular fundraiser against other RUMS sports teams.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES As well as playing, RUMS Netball also get involved in many off-court activities VOLUNTEERING! BECOME AN UMPIRE! Want to earn some extra cash? RUMS Netball has a deal with UCLU where we can pay for you to complete an umpiring course and pay you 20/hr to umpire our matches! We are linked with charity KEEN who provide one-toone sports and fun for disabled children. Check out their amazing work: http://www.keenlondon.org/ As a club member, you will be asked to volunteer one Sunday per term for a couple of hours with other club members in their excellent work. A timetable is devised by our club development officer and there is plenty of opportunity to swap your Sunday throughout the term. You will undertake a weekend course and have the opportunity to practice your skills at all training sessions. After your accredited assessment we can then make you one of our official umpires! Contact Robyn for more details. Extremely popular last year, this is a great opportunity to meet others from the club fun way to give something back.
SOCIAL EVENTS As well as fun on the pitch, our social events throughout the year give everyone a chance to dress up, drink up and generally act like kids! SPORTS NIGHTS PUB CRAWLS Every Wednesday from 7.30pm at Mully s Bar, with game and theme nights for a midweek break! Our annual Netball-Rugby pub crawl attracts members from both clubs as you are tied together on a race around Bloomsbury! TOUR 2014! Our annual 3-day weekend away to a secret venue. A guaranteed few days of laughter, clubbing, and fun. With a yearly theme, it is a real chance to be part of a legendary club experience! CLUB MEALS Our Christmas and Easter club meals are a great social event to bring the terms to a close, as well as individual team meals organised by your captains. SPORTS BALL The sporting event of the year, this is a big blow out for all RUMS clubs and is an amazing night of food, drink, dancing and general madness!
