MMR Dream Team National Champions Pictured above are members of the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay of MMR (Massey Miracle Run) of Monroe, Louisiana Coach Detrick Massey and Coach Charles Smith Nick Named The Massey Miracle Run Dream Team Kaloe Henderson Michael Henderson, Jr. Kentavious Griffin Zachary Jackson, Jr. These athletes competed in Sacramento, Ca. at the 50 th anniversary event of USATF Junior Olympics. They took to the track with one thing on their mind and that was bringing home the GOLD. They did just that, but along with the 1 st place win they broke the National Record set by Desoto Nitro in 2013. 4X100 (8 & under B) Finals Massey Miracle Run, 56.53 (National Record) After capturing National attention, KNOE 8 NEWS (credit: Gwendolyn Ducre) interviewed the coaches and the athletes. An awesome story and a great accomplishment. Two comments taken from that story were from Coach Smith and Coach Massey. Coach Smith said that nothing beats a failure but a try and Coach Massey said it s about letting the negative people know that it s something still positive on the southside of town. President Simmons and the Executive Committee of USATF Southern Association would like to commend the coaching staff and athletes on a job well done.
Future stars break three national youth records on third day of USATF JOTF Championships *Greater King David Track Club Athlete among the three youth 7/27/2016 Sean Burrell (Clinton, Louisiana; USATF Southern), who won the pentathlon on Monday, sped to a national record in the prelims of the boys 13-14 200m hurdles, clocking 23.90 to lop.09 off the previous record set in 2003 by Trey Charles of Smyrna, Georgia. Tori Bowie Tori Bowie, from Sandhill, Tori Bowie Photo credit: Getty Images Of Sandhill, Mississippi, is headed to the Olympics in Rio to represent the United States in track. Bowie placed first in the women's 200-meter final during the Olympic trials in July. She ranks in the top three in the world in that event. She placed third in the 100-meter final and ranks in the top five in the world in that event. In addition to competing in the 100- meter and 200-meter, she will run the last leg on the 4x100- meter relay for the United States. This outstanding runner has trained with Coach Charlie Floyd at his training facility in Wilkinson County. Bowie's first race, the 100 meter prelim, is scheduled for August 12th. How Time Flies is what can be said about this season. We have already come to the end of another track and field season. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Executive Committee for their hard work and dedication to the Association during this season. I would also like to thank the officials for their diligence in making sure we had quality meets this HOT track season. I would like to commend the coaches and their staff on training the athletes and preparing them for competition. Naterria is an athlete with SPAR Track Club, led by Coach Lamark Carter. Naterria graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana with a 4.34 GPA. She will be attending Northwestern State University majoring in Criminal Justice/Pre-Law.
