FSIN Technical Manual which governs Summer/Winter Games states; All coaches participating in the Saskatchewan First Nations games must have a Level 1 certification in their respective sport. This includes technical, practical, and theory and NCCP # at the time of the games. Assume full responsibility for team members during competition. Abide by all rules in the technical manual. Knowledgeable in rules of sport and protocol of games. Abide by the Coaches Code of Conduct. Conduct themselves in a professional manner. Have First Aid and CPR C. Abide by all rules of host community. Coach is required to provide a Criminal Records Check (if this is not received by STC YSCR Coordinator your application will be denied). STC also has a Coaches Code of Conduct which must be followed upon appointment of this volunteer position. Breech of these statements will result in a meeting with STC YSCR Committee and pending discussion, may or may not result in the suspension of further coaching involvement. It states; I will do my best representing the Saskatoon Tribal Council and will participate in the spirit of the Saskatchewan First Nation Winter Games. I will be responsible for working with and cooperating with all STC athletes. I will teach my athletes to play fairly and respect the rules, officials and opponents. I will not ridicule or yell at athletes for making mistakes or for performing poorly. I will remember that athletes play to have fun and must be encouraged to have confidence in themselves. I will accept the coordinators and official decisions and I will encourage participants to do the same. I will ensure that all athletes abide by the set curfew. I will maintain a healthy atmosphere and environment for competition at the Saskatchewan First Nation Winter Games. I will not tolerate unsportsmanlike conduct toward myself, my athletes and other people at the games. I will handle all conflicts firmly but with dignity and will complete an incident report to the YSCR Coordinator. I will accept my role as a teacher and role model for fair play. I will not use bad language, nor will I harass athletes, parents, chaperones, officials and participants. I will be free of and discourage the use of drugs, alcohol, violence, verbal abuse or theft. This behavior will not be tolerated. I will respect the rules and regulations established by the Saskatchewan First Nations Sports, Culture and Recreation Board. Page 4
I will have mandatory parents/guardians and coaches meetings to review game plans, events, schedules and conduct leading up to the Games. I will meet my team minimum one hour before each skill development, practice, or game. I will meet and communicate with the Parents/Guardians/Chaperones of the athletes and will be present during ALL Team STC meetings before and after the Games. I am responsible for all equipment and/or uniforms that I use during the games. If it is not returned I am financially responsible for this equipment and/or uniforms. I,, understand and agree that I will follow the Coaches Code of Ethics set by the Saskatoon Tribal Council Youth, Sport, Culture and Recreation Committee and the FSIN Technical Manual Guidelines for Saskatchewan First Nation Games.
