Membership Enrollment Inside this issue: Run for A Soldier Project R O T Y: Runner of the Year, is a program to encourage CCRR membership and involvement in CCRR sponsored runs and other local runs. CCRR members are eligible to earn points for volunteering at races as well as participating in them. More points are earned for top finishers, but that normally is not the deal breaker at the end of the year. The most important aspect of the program is participation and membership status. ROTY point accumulation runs from Nov 1 to Oct (CCRR banquet). Points are also awarded for signing up for renewal or new membership on time. For examples 8 points are given for just signup on time (by Nov 30). Local runs are helped by the ROTY designation because it gives CCRR members more incentive to attend their runs. The more local runs we have the more the running community benefits. It is a win-win situation. 2 2 Meet Our Members David Howard 3 Meet Our Members Bernadette Howard 4 Beach to Bay - McCaughan 5 Park 5 A new or old, favorite or not so favorite T-shirt to exchange, a 3-6 mile run, Don s famous Rum Cake and lots of fun... priceless. to the ROTY awards. CORPUS ROADRUNNERS JANUARY 2011 McCaughan Park is the site of the new finish line and post race activities for the 36th Annual Beach to Bay Relay Marathon, May 21, 2011. McCaughan Park is beside the site of the old Memorial Coliseum and in just front of McGee Beach. The park is bordered by Park Ave, S Shoreline (just as it splits) and Furman Ave. B2B finishers and their friends and families can take advantage of the beach and bay front view. A note from Doug McBee B2B Race Director Dear Friends/Beach to Bay Runners/Supporters, Thank you again for continuing to support the Annual Beach to Bay Relay Marathon. Over 14, 0000 runners participated in the 35 th Running of the Beach to Bay Relay Marathon and boy did the rain provide some relief from the South Texas heat. (LOL) Many of you told me as with all Beach to Bay Events that there is always a little something to take back with you in the form of a memory. I think we took care of that and hopefully after advising with the rain-makers, this year we will have sunshine and 72 degrees. Now in our 36th year, I have some very exciting news to report. The park where the race normally ends (Cole Park) will be under construction. After several meetings with the City of Corpus Christi pertaining to Beach to Bay, the city has graciously offered McCaughan Park (just a half-mile north of Cole Park) as a finish line area for race day festivities. McCaughan Park is on Shoreline Boulevard between Park Street and Furman Avenue. I am looking forward to this change as the race will end closer to the bay along Shoreline Boulevard. This race course change reminds me somewhat of the Boston Marathon, offering a wider spectrum of views for spectators and well wishers. Hey, why not finish the race and walk 100ft and jump in Corpus Christi Bay and cool off if you are running the 6 th leg. The actual leg(s) distances may change or be altered slightly; please refer to this website as time passes for real time distances. Also for 2011, we have added some additional divisions, there is now an over 70 division and a mixed elementary and middle school division. These were requests by you and in order to make the Beach to Bay Relay Marathon a success, we listen to your suggestions. Happy Running, Doug McBee Race Director
