1st TEAM NEWS EPSOM ATHLETIC 0 BHAM FC 2 GOALS FROM DUCKHAM AND MILLER SEAL AN AWAY WIN AT CHALKY LANE After the weeks heavy rain the Hammers travelled to Epsom Athletic in the quest for 3 points. Nathan West and Jarrell Gray returned to the starting line up adding further strength to the spine of the side. With Gary Abisogun and Dean Miller running the flanks, it wasn't long before the former carved a shooting opportunity only to see it saved by the opposition keeper. Cobham needn't have waited long for the breakthrough however, as some neat hold up play found Duckham on the edge of the box then rifled a shot straight into the top corner to make it 1-0 on 5 minutes. The Hammers remained in control for the first half and created some half chances without ever really troubling the home keeper. The second half was slightly delayed as a first half injury to Cobham keeper Dan Roberts meant that he failed to make it out for the second. Nathan West agreed to step into the breach and don the gloves after his fine first half back in midfield. This signaled the return of Myles Powponne after some time away at South Park. This time it was one way traffic with Weighill and the impressive Cull holding firm on the halfway line allowing Nazareth and Chin the platform to get on. Epsom Athletic were defending very effectively and created wall after wall of blocks and tackles as the half wore on. One nil is never a comfortable lead and as the minutes ticked on the frustrations were growing. Abisogun beat his full back once again in the 79th minute and after good work found Miller rushing into the penalty box, with the goal at his mercy he was pulled down. Miller dusted himself off and slotted away the penalty. 2-0. It could well have been three after Abisogun once again jinked his way through the box only to be pulled back by the keeper at the second attempt. This time Chin stepped up for the penalty only to see his effort come back off the post. As it happened he casually chipped the keeper on the rebound, but was denied by the referees whistle as no other player had touched the ball first. A good solid performance which will give the Hammers confidence ahead of the Surrey Cup match against Met Police on Wednesday night.

UNDER DEVELOPMENT The ground has had some developments going on this week. Conifers behind the dugouts have been cut down by 3 meters to allow for more light onto the pitch and the training lights to reach out further on the junior pitches. Thank you Nick at www.greensideupgrass.co.uk for his help. Also a welcome to Neil MacDonald Fencing for their hard work around the ground.
