Page 7 The Morning Line Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 Santa Barbara Polo Club Story by Melanja Jones Dark Horse Polo Team lived up to its name today, coming from behind in the 6th chukker to upset Film Finances in a 11-10 OT victory in the Harry East Memorial 8 goal final. The last time the two teams met in bracket play Film Finances had won in double OT, but in the final the OT period went in favor of Sara Rotman s Dark Horse. Dark Horse started out strong, leading 4-2 after the 2nd chukker. But in the 3rd period Film Finances Santiago Wulff turned things around with a lot of help from a speedy chestnut mare to take Film Finances into the halftime break ahead by one goal, 5-4. Each team scored a goal each in the 4th to keep things even, and then Film Finances exploded in the 5th chukker, tallying four goals to one from Dark Horse and taking a 10-6 lead. But Dark Horse saved the best for last, as first Jesse Bray scored, team captain Max Menini added a penalty shot, then Dayelle Fargey made a fantastic run out of the lineup to bring Dark Horse within one. Then with just over a minute left Menini added another penalty shot to tie things up at 10 all. All of us watching were curious to see if we would have another double OT, but this time the OT was very quick. Film Finances made a run at the condo goal, but Dark Horse played strong defense and Jesse Bray hit a clearing shot from his own 40 yard line to send the ball to midfield, and then made the shot of the season to send the ball 147 yards straight through the goal posts for the golden goal and OT redemption for Dark Horse. MVP was Dayelle Fargey, and BPP was Jiji, played by Santiago Wulff and owned by Abby Riggs In the consolation, Casa Sombras defeated Mansour 11-10, Joseph Stuart was high scorer for the game with 6 goals.
