These divisions will be contested at the end of the Grand Championship. We will attempt to use standard weight divisions but divisions may be combined based on the weight range of the entrants. All Matches will be 3 minutes in duration. Specific rules will be discussed prior to the competition, but in general, contact below the belt is permitted which enables techniques such as sukui nage (aka te waza), kata guruma, kuchi daoishi, ko uchi gari and ouchi gari (with a hand assist) and others. Unsafe or dangerous techniques such as kani basami, kawazu-gake, and sweeping an opponent's supporting leg from the inside will still be disallowed as will joint locks on other than the elbow (all of which result in Hansoku-make disqualification). Same side grips, contact below the belt, grabbing the obi, are allowed as long as they are not being done with defensive intent. Matte will not be called until both players are completely out of bounds (which is the same standard currently used in ne waza). There will be a diminished focus on "penalty judo." Stepping out, gripping penalties, and defensive posture will still be called when there is a clear intent in the judgment of the referee to avoid the fight. Illegal entry into ne waza (pulling your opponent to the mat other than as a result of a skillful judo technique) will still result in a penalty. The Classic Judo event will take place at the conclusion of the Grand Championship. 48th Annual Northglenn Judo Championship Revision August 25, 2016 Page 10
