summer CITY OF NORTHGLENN Parks, Recreation, Cultural Services & Senior Center May-August, 2010

DIRECTORY Dear Northglenn Residents, I cannot believe that another summer is already upon us! School is almost out, the weather has turned warmer, and days are getting longer all of which means that there is more time in the day for play! This has been a running theme in my communication to you, and I will continue to encourage everyone to find some time in your day to do something you find enjoyable, whether that be to experience a play or cultural event, enjoy a park, take a refreshing swim in the pool, or join a group in friendly competition on the basketball court or soccer field. The City of Northglenn continually strives to provide a wide variety of recreation opportunities to meet the needs of all of our residents. I encourage you to peruse the pages of this brochure. I am confident that you will find something that sounds interesting, whether you are looking to learn something new, do something relaxing, or take on a challenge! The 2009 Annual Report for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is now available, and can be viewed at www.northglenn.org/p299. The report outlines both the accomplishments and challenges that the department faced in 2009, and provides an overview of the department from both a financial and programmatic standpoint. All of the information in this report is taken into consideration as staff make recommendations for Parks and Recreation programs, capital improvement projects, and general operating procedures in the upcoming year. As many of you are already aware, City Council and staff continue to work towards bringing the Recreation Center into compliance with the Order to Comply that was issued by North Metro Fire Rescue District in June 2008. Most recently, confirmation was received from North Metro Fire Rescue District providing an extension to the original order to comply, requiring that a long-term plan for making the necessary repairs be presented to the fire district no later than July 30, 2010. A copy of this letter can be found at www.northglenn.org. City officials and staff are committed to defining a long-term plan regarding the Recreation Center. As additional information becomes available, staff will provide updates on the website. If you would like to provide input to this process, you are encouraged to do so by attending Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meetings, or contacting me directly at apeterson@northglenn.org.
