UMass cut the UD lead to two, 32-20, but the Flyers rattled off eight-straight points to take the 10-point, 40-30, advantage into the locker room at the half. Massachusetts never got any closer than to within six points in the second half as Dayton came away with the nine-point win. Senior Andrea Hoover led all scorers with 19 points as one of four Flyers in doublefigures scoring. SERIES STUFF In 30 meetings between Dayton and Saint Louis, the Flyers have collected 24 wins including an 87-72 victory earlier this season at UD Arena. Saint Louis won four-consecutive games from 1999 to 2002 but since then, Dayton has picked up 14 straight wins in the series. YOU RE INVITED TO A BLOCK PARTY The team s blocks leader for the past two seasons is at it again... junior Jodie Cornélie-Sigmundová is averaging 2.4 blocks per game this season which ranks first in the Atlantic 10 and 31st nationally. Malott s hard work paid off with an Atlantic 10 Player of the Week nod on Feb. 2. WE VE GOT TWO CLASSY SENIORS Seniors Andrea Hoover and Ally Malott were selected as candidates for the Senior CLASS Award - Dayton was the only program with TWO players among the final 30 in the running for the award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of NCAA Division I senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. WELCOME TO THE TEAM Dayton signed three to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period: Lauren Cannatelli (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West), Madeleine Dennis (Perth, Western Australia/Mount Lawley) and Ashleigh Parkinson (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic). Compassionate. Dedicated. These are just a few words that come to mind when talking about Jim Jabir. On April 8, 2003, the University of Dayton introduced Jabir as the women s basketball team s eighth head coach and first male head coach in the history of the program. Since taking over as Dayton s head coach in 2003, Jim Jabir is the all-time wins leader in program history. He has earned a mark of 232-138 (12th season) at UD and is 452-361 in his 28-year head coaching career. With five consecutive NCAA appearances (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014), two Women s National Invitational Tournament appearances, back-to-back Atlantic 10 Final appearances, the program s first A-10 Tournament Championship in 2012, followed by the program s first A-10 Regular Season Title in 2013 after posting a perfect 14-0 record in conference play. In 2014, Jabir led the Flyers to another A-10 regular season championship and to the first round in the NCAA tournament. Add to that the 22 A-10 All-Conference performers under his belt while at the helm of the Flyers, Jabir has undoubtedly led the University of Dayton to its most successful stint in modern program history. The two-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year has transformed the program, taking the Flyers from 3-25 in his first season to their highest national ranking at No. 11 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls in 2013. In the last five seasons UD has occrued a 120-38 overall record (.760 winning percentage) and posted a 60-12 record (.833 winning percentage) in Atlantic 10 games. Jabir also led the Flyers to having the leading scoring offense in the A-10. Dayton was also number one in defensive rebounding and shots blocked in the A-10 in the 2013-14 season. A heart-breaking loss to Florida in the first round of the NCAA tournament cannot take away from all the success Jabir led the Flyers to in the 2013-14 season. Jabir posted a 23-8 with a winning percentage of.742. This was the fifth year Jabir earned a.700 winning percentage or higher while at Dayton. After losing seven seniors from the squad that won the 2012 Atlantic 10 Tournament title, the bar was set high for a young 2012-13 team, but they rose to the challenge. They set the school-record for greatest number of wins in a season (28) since becoming a Division I program in 1986. Jabir was named a finalist for the 2013 Naismith National Coach of the Year after posting a career-high winning percentage (.903) with the sixth youngest team in the nation. The Flyers averaged 2,739 fans per home game - the best in the A-10 and among the Top 40 in the nation. Jabir came to UD after spending one season as an assistant at Colorado. In his last season at CU, the Buffaloes (24-8) advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament and were ranked as high as 23rd in the ESPN/Coaches Poll and 24th in the Associated Press Poll. Jabir was primarily responsible for the development of CU s post players, including the Buffaloes first-ever First Team All-Big 12 selection. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native began his coaching career as an assistant at Nazareth College (1984-85) and at Buffalo State (1985-86). Jabir was instrumental in leading the Bengals to a 23-3 slate, the SUNYAC title, a 22-game winning streak, an NCAA regional tournament appearance and a national ranking (No. 3) during the 1985-86 season. After one season as an assistant, Jabir became the head coach at Buffalo State during the 1986-87 season at the age of 24. He led that team to a 14-11 record and guided the Bengals to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship and an appearance in the Division III Tournament. Jabir went to Siena College from Buffalo State, where he served as the head coach of the Saints for three seasons (1987-90) and compiled a 50-29 record. Jabir s teams posted three consecutive winning seasons. In his first season, Jabir was responsible for the development of Siena s first-ever Freshman All-American. After his stint at Siena, Jabir spent six years at Marquette University becoming one of the most successful coaches in the history of the program, elevating the Golden Eagles into the national spotlight. After posting a 7-20 record during his inaugural year (1990-91) at Marquette, Jabir guided his team to four consecutive winning seasons, two 20-plus winning seasons and three post-season appearances, including back-to-back bids to the NCAA Tournament. In 1994-95, Marquette won the Great Midwest Conference Tournament, the first tournament championship in school history. This followed the 1993-94 campaign in which Jabir compiled a program-best 22-7 overall record and its first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Jabir was a two-time Reebok/Great Midwest Conference Coach of the Year while at Marquette. Jabir was at the helm of Providence College for six seasons, 1996-02, following his time at Siena. During his last three years with the program, the Friars record improved with each season. He is a 1984 graduate of Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y., where he received a degree in English. He also earned his Masters degree in Student Personnel Administration from Buffalo State in 1986. Jabir has three children, Lauren, Shane and Jackson. Atlantic 10 Champions: 2012, 2013, 2014 9
