Hammerheads edge out Miracle, 4-2, to take series Jupiter pounced on Miracle starter Tyler Jay in the first inning and scored three runs on four hits. Jay walked the lead-off man and then surrendered three consecutive hits with RBI from Brian Anderson, Taylor Ard and Yuniel Ramirez. The Miracle rallied for a run in the fifth, a Chris Paul RBI double, and one more in the eighth on an Alex Swim run-scoring hit. Down by a run in the ninth, home plate umpire Jonathan Parra called his third balk in the series with runners on first and third to bring in a Jupiter insurance run. The balk was on reliever Todd Van Steensel. The game also featured the first in-game delay due to rain. The two teams vacated the field in the top of the seventh for a 34-minute delay. Gordon off to blistering start as 20-year old in the FSL The Twins first pick and fifth overall in 2015, shortstop Nick Gordon has adjusted beautifully to the Florida State League in his first taste at age 20. With a.322 batting average, Gordon is 19-for-59 with six extra-base hits and six RBI. His 19 hits is tied for second in the league and so are his five doubles coming into today s action. Nick has multiple hits in four of his last 11 games. A Florida native, Gordon has put on a display in his home state to begin the season. Nick s father, former MLB reliever Tom Flash Gordon and brother, current Marlins All-Star, Dee Gordon are also based in Florida for the summer. Vavra s nine-game hitting streak ends in Daytona Last year, Miracle infielder Tanner Vavra s longest hitting streak was six games. His brother, Trey, now has bragging rights after opening the season with an nine-game streak for the Miracle before going 0-for-5 on Sunday. Vavra was 10-for-35 (.286) with two doubles and two RBI. Last year, Trey opened the season with a five-game hitting streak for Cedar Rapids and he has already eclipsed his 2015-best six-game streak for the Kernels.Vavra hit.346 in 42 games in the Midwest League a year ago. Trey recovered well on Wednesday at Hammond Staidum with a 3-for-4 night including his first home run in the FSL. As a result, the Miracle received the first roster transaction of the 2016 season with T.J. White getting the call-up to Double-A. White had recorded multiple hits in three of the last four games and was 6-for-22 with two RBI in six games for the Miracle. Filling White s spot on the Fort Myers roster will be infielder Chris Paul. A sixth round pick by the Twins last year out of the University of California-Berkeley, Paul got off to a great start with Cedar Rapids (A) in the Midwest League. Making six of seven starts at third base, Paul was 9-for-26 (.346) for the Kernels with two extra-base hits and four RBI. Manuel Guzman goes from Extended Spring Training to Cedar Rapids to fill in for Paul. vs. North Home Road Total Brevard Co. 3-1 0-0 3-1 Clearwater 0-0 0-0 0-0 Daytona 0-0 2-2 2-2 Dunedin 0-0 0-0 0-0 Lakeland 0-0 0-0 0-0 Tampa 0-0 0-0 0-0 The Florida State League plays a complete 140-game schedule.
