The KHSAA State Championships moved to the state-of-the-art-facility, home to the University of Louisville Cardinals, last year after 29 consecutive years at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center s Cardinal Stadium. Overall, the KFEC hosed the event 30 times. We hope you enjoy your visit covering this weekend s exciting action, as four state champions will be crowned. Should you need any assistance, please notify Butch Cope, KHSAA Director of Promotions & Media Relations, located in the Press Box (Level 5) or Marilyn Mitchell located at the Press Gate (Gate 9) or any other KHSAA Event Staff. PRESS BOX RULES This is a reminder that the press box, video deck, radio broadcast areas and field press areas are for working media only. NO cheering will be tolerated and spouse/children are not allowed in any of the areas. FOOTBALL CREDENTIALS This is another reminder that credentials are issued to working media members only. All credentials are granted to a particular outlet and are non-transferable. The transferring of any credential without the consent of the KHSAA is strictly prohibited. Please don t risk losing future privileges to KHSAA State Championship events by giving your credential to anyone. POSTGAME INTERVIEW PROCEDURES Following trophy presentations, coaches and selected players will be brought to the media interview room off field level (signs will be on the field to direct you). The area is inside the UofL Football Complex. Entrance to the area is near the Jewish Hospital truck at the scoreboard end of the stadium. The winning coach and selected players (4-5) will be escorted first, followed by the losing coach and players. Please note the first requirement is the press conference. Any additional one-on-one interviews or radio station interviews are required to take place following the press conference. LOCKERROOMS ARE CLOSED TO THE MEDIA. Any additional interviews are to be conducted OUTSIDE the locker room and there are NO exceptions. TEAM BOX AREA Media are prohibited from being inside the team box area (25-yard line to 25-yard line). This includes just walking through the area to get to the other end of the field. Please remain behind the roped area and outside of the team box area to get to the opposite end of the field. Only Insight Communications, official telecast rights holder and video board producer of the event, are permitted in the area. PHOTO/VIDEO AREA Photographers /Videographers are to remain behind the sideline level signage. Only game officials (chain crew, ball personnel) are permitted in front of the signage. In areas were the sideline signage is not present, photographers must be behind the yellow dotted line. Anyone with a photo armband or press box pass WITHOUT a camera will asked to remain behind the roped area on the sidelines. Only working photographers/videographers with the proper photo credential and equipment should be in front of the roped areas behind any sideline signage.

LIVE SHOTS/SATELLITE TRUCKS Satellite trucks will be permitted to park within close proximity (100 feet) of the end zone outside of the gated stadium area. Live shots should be done from the grassy area in the end zone underneath the Pepsi Vision Board. Please note, NO MERCURY lighting is to be pointed in the direction of the field while play is in progress. If you require mercury lighting, you should point your camera and lighting toward the stands and away from the playing field. POSTGAME RESULTS Results will be available in a timely fashion and passed out in the main room of the Press Box (Level 5) and brought to radio broadcast personnel. Results will be posted on the KHSAA website (www.khsaa.org) within 15-20 minutes following the conclusion of each game. Score-by-quarters, along with scoring plays and team and individuals stats will be listed on the site. INSIGHT COMMUNICATIONS LIVE TELECASTS OF STATE FINALS For the first time in the history of the Association, all four championship games will be broadcast live across the Commonwealth through Insight Communications. In addition, Comcast Sports Southeast will air Friday s games live and the Saturday s games on a tape-delayed basis (due to a prior scheduling conflict) outside of the Commonwealth. Games will be seen throughout the southeast in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, West Virginia, Virginia, Arkansas and Mississippi. Please check with your local Insight distributor for the channel airing the games. Earl Browning and Gary Gupton will handle play-by-play and color commentary. KENTUCKY FOOTBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION PRESENTATIONS The Kentucky Football Coaches Association will be honoring its players and coaches of the year at halftime of each of the State Championship games. A listing is printed on page 5 of the State Championship program. In addition, the organization will honor member coaches who have achieved milestone victories in their careers. RAWLINGS SPORTING GOODS/KHSAA RADIO NETWORK Gary Ball and Bill Ransdell, along with former KHSAA Commissioner Louis Stout, will handle play-by-play and color duties for the Rawlings Sporting Goods/KHSAA Radio Network. In addition to hometown team stations broadcasting the games separately, broadcasts of the games can be heard on WHOP (98.7 FM/1230 AM) in Hopkinsville and WXRA (1580 AM) in Lexington. The audio will also be streamed over the internet through the KHSAA (www.khsaa.org) and ihigh.com websites. The project is a joint program with the KHSAA and Clear Channel Radio. ON THE CLOCK The 25-second clocks will be in use during play for this year s State Championship action. MEDIA TIMEOUTS At the first change of possession under the 7:00 mark of each quarter, there will be a 1:30 Media timeout. This will not affect or negate team timeouts. The break between quarters will also be 1:30. Halftime will be 15:00 with a guaranteed warm -up time for teams in the second game of 45:00 prior to kick-off.

Highlands is making its 21 st appearance in a state championship game. All six of those making a return trip have gone home at least once with a State Championship trophy. The only team among the eight participating in this week s championships yet to win a state title is Owensboro Catholic. Scott County won the Class AA title in 1975. The seven teams that have won a title combine for 50 of the 164 football titles awarded by the KHSAA since the sanctioning of the football playoffs in 1959. Highlands owns the most (15), St. Xavier (10), Danville (10), Beechwood (8), Boyle County (5), Belfry (1) and Scott County (1). FOOTBALL Curtis Pulley of Hopkinsville was named Mr. Football Wednesday as announced by the Associated Press. TE Notre Dame PLAYOFF WIN STREAK With five consecutive state titles and four wins in the 2004 Class AAA playoffs to date, Boyle County has reeled off 29 consecutive playoff wins, a state record. Beechwood won 24 while winning consecutive state championships from 1991-94 before losing to Mayfield in the 1995 State Championship. HERE WE GO AGAIN Two of this weekend s State Championship games are re-matches of regular season contests. Boyle County suffered a 21-0 loss on the road to Highlands while St. Xavier defeated Scott County on the road, 33-7. KELVIN TURNER WATCH Danville s Kelvin Turner has already set the state record for career total touchdowns with 116. With 702 career points, he is just 20 shy of Herbie Phelps (Old Kentucky Home) 41 year-old state career scoring mark. Following are Turner s career marks. BOYLE COUNTY'S BRANDON SMITH NAMED ROY KIDD PLAYER OF THE YEAR Boyle County High School senior quarterback Brandon Smith has been named the 15th annual Roy Kidd Overall and Class 3-A High School Player of the Year. Voting is done by the state's coaches, under the direction of the Kentucky News Network. The award is named in honor of the former long-time coach at Eastern Kentucky University. Also honored as the top players in their respective classes were running back Kelvin Turner of Danville (Class A), running back Andrew McCloud of Mercer County (2-A) and quarterback Will Fidler of Henderson County (4-A). Heading into this year's 3-A title game, Boyle County's Smith has compiled a won/loss record of 40-4 as the Rebels starting quarterback. For his career, he's completed 539 passes in 897 attempts, for 8.679 yards and 115 touchdowns. He's also run for 2.402 yards and 43 touchdowns, and has a career total of 11,126 yards in total offense. Danville's Kelvin Turner has rushed for 7,092 yards in his career heading into this year's Class A title game. He's the state's alltime leader in career touchdowns with 116 and has a career average of 9.5 yards per carry. In leading Henderson County to this year's Class 4-A state semifinals, junior quarterback Will Fidler completed 67 percent of his passes for 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns. With another season remaining in his high school career, he's already thrown for 7,107 yards and 67 touchdowns, while completing 60.5 percent of his passes. In helping Mercer County to the Class 2-A playoffs, senior running back Andrew McCloud rushed for 2,150 yards this season. For his career, he has rushed for 5,341 yards and scored 65 touchdowns. An extremely versatile player, he finished his career with 6,812 yards in multi-purpose yardage.
