Lawrence North Athletics Community Partner of the Week: This week we welcome a new community partner, the Northside Grill, owned by 2003 Lawrence North graduate, Ryan Jones. Rita s Italian Ice LN Student-Athletes of the Week Rita s is located at 8910 East 96 th Street, just north of the intersection of 96 th and Sargent Road. Kristen Mouser, Swimming and Dheontae Unseld, Wrestling Mouser, a junior, helped to lead the girls swimming & diving team to victories over MIC rivals Warren Central and Lawrence Central. Unseld, a senior, won three matches on his way to the MIC wrestling championship at 152 lbs. Both Kristen and Dheontae were also honor roll students this past semester. Great job, Wildcats!
Cheerleading: The LN Cheerleaders will be conducting a Future Wildcats winter cheerleading camp on January 27 th from 9:00am 12:00pm in the LN Fieldhouse. The team will be teaching materials that will be performed at halftime of the boys basketball games against Fishers that night. Participants will receive a long sleeve t-shirt, cheer bow, and a ticket to the game. Participants will arrive at LN at 6:00pm to prepare to cheer with the LN cheer squad during the game! Girls Basketball: The #7 Wildcats (16-4, 3-2 MIC) beat MIC and district rival Lawrence Central 64-24. The JV team also beat the Bears in dramatic fashion, 42-40. As always, the MIC conference is starting to show the state it is one of the best conferences in the state of Indiana, as 5 of the top 12 teams in the latest IBCA poll are out of the MIC: http://ibcacoaches.com/coaches-players/weekly-top- 20-girls-ibca-poll/. Next up for the Wildcats is a home game on Tuesday against #13 Hamilton Southeastern and then a big MIC matchup with #6 North Central at home on Saturday.
Boys Basketball: The 15 th ranked Wildcats (9-4, 0-2 MIC) beat Southport (3-7) 59-50, and Brebeuf (7-5) 62-50 in the Marion County tournament before falling to #3 Warren Central (14-0) in the semi-finals, 62-58 in a very competitive game. LN played WC much better than the regular season matchup and will hopefully get another shot at the Warriors at sectional. This week, the Wildcats will play at North Central on Friday night for a big MIC game, and then will travel to Oak Hill on Saturday. Oak Hill is the alma mater of Coach Keefer, and before coaching at Lawrence North he coached the Golden Eagles for four years. Oak Hill will be having a Jack Keefer Day to recognize the Hall of Fame coach. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in basketball. Pictures by Jared Rigdon and Alanna Ampil.
Boys/Girls Swimming: The boys and girls swimming teams both beat MIC rivals Warren Central and Lawrence Central last week. Many of the varsity swimmers also participated in a USA Swimming meet over the weekend at the historic IU natatorium downtown, swimming in meets 5 out of 7 days for a very busy week! The team will not have any competition this week in order to train for the JV Winter Classic and the IHSAA Sectional meets at the end of the month. Picture by Mr. Penrose.
Wrestling: The LN wrestlers (14-8) placed 4 th at the MIC Championships this weekend. Tyler Majors and Dheontae Unseld led the Wildcats, both winning conference titles. Deacon Pettiford was MIC runner-up, while Karsten Harshbarger and Deon Pettiford both placed 3 rd in their respective weight classes. James Despain placed 4 th, as did freshman Anthony Hughes, who was unseeded going into the tournament and picked up two impressive wins. The Wildcats will travel to Lawrence Central on Wednesday for a big showdown with the Bears, and the JV team will finish the season on Thursday at the Pendleton Invitational.
