EASTERN YACHT CLUB 2015 SUMMER PURSUIT RACES June 19, July 31 & August 21, 2015 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 1. RULES 1.1 Racing will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 For the purposes of rules 14 and 44.1, any contact between boats shall be considered serious damage. This changes rule 44.1. 1.3 The first sentence of 44.1 is changed to read: A boat may take a One-Turn Penalty when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2... 1.4 Each boat shall check in with the RC prior to starting and declare their intention to race and a statement of crew count. Check in shall not be made on VHF 72 after the warning. 1.5 All boats shall only use sails in accordance with PHRF Cruising Rating or Class Rules without spinnakers or gennakers. 2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS Notices to competitors will be posted (I) on the official notice board located in the EYC (Eastern Yacht Club) Sailing Center and as a courtesy (ii) on the EYC website racing page. 3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 4. ENTRYS Any change to the sailing instructions, including Addendum 1 (9.3 Starting Schedule), will be posted not later than 0900 the day of the race. Entry is free to all boats meeting the requirements of sections 1.3, 14 and 15. Registration may be made on-line at the EYC web page www.easternyc.org or at the EYC Sailing Center. Only those boats registered by 2100 the evening before the scheduled race may be included in the scratch sheet. The Race Committee will accept late entries on a best effort basis by e-mail or on channel 72 prior to 15 minutes before the warning signal.
5. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE Signals made ashore shall be displayed from the flagstaff at the head of the EYC pier. 6. SCHEDULE OF RACES 6.1 Dates of Racing - 19 June, 31 July & 21August 2015. Racing canceled for any reason will not be rescheduled. 6.2 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the day's race is 1800 on 19 June and 31 July. The scheduled time of the warning signal for the day's race is 1730 on 32 August. 7. COURSE 8. MARKS 7.1 Courses shall be chosen from those described in Addendum 2. 7.2 The starting area shall be between the mouth of Marblehead harbor and Children's Island 7.3 The letter designation of the course shall be displayed on the RC signal boat and announced on VHF channel 72 not less than 5 minutes prior to the warning signal. 7.4 If the course uses a set first mark the approximate magnetic bearing to the mark will be displayed below the letter designation and the approximate distance will be displayed in the adjacent column. 7.5 Shortening of a race shall be between an orange flag on a race committee boat and the nearest mark of the course. 8.1 Marks shall be government navigation buoys. If the course uses a set first mark it shall be an orange tetrahedron. 8.2 Where the course diagrams of Addendum 2 show the course passing to one side of an island or rock, that island or rock shall be considered a mark of the course. 9. THE START 9.1 The warning signal shall consist of an open mike countdown on channel 72 along with raising the starting line flag on its staff and a sound signal. This changes RRS 26 9.2 The start for the first boat(s) in the sequence shall be 5 minutes after the warning. There will be no sound signal. This changed RRS 26. 9.3 Starting times for subsequent boats in the sequence shall be in accordance with the starting schedule listed in Addendum 1. This changes RRS 26.
9.4 The RC shall provide starting information including a 10 second countdown for each boat(s) start in the sequence on VHF channel 72. 9.5 The starting line shall be between a staff on a RC boat bearing an orange flag and either staff of another RC boat bearing an orange flag or the course side of a green tetrahedron mark. 10. THE FINISH The finish line shall be between a staff on a RC boat bearing an orange flag and either staff of another RC boat bearing an orange flag or course side of a green tetrahedron mark. 11. TIME LIMITS AND TARGET TIMES 11.1 Time limit is 15 minutes before sunset. 11.2 Target time for the race is between 1 and 1.5 hours. 12. PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS 12.1 Protest forms are available at the EYC. Sailing Center 12.2 Written protests and requests for redress shall be filed at the EYC Sailing Center within 30 minutes of the RC boat returning to the EYC dock.. 12.3 Protests and requests for redress shall be heard shortly after the end of the protest filing period. 13. SCORING Boats shall be scored based on their finishing position. 14. SAFETY REGULATIONS 13.1 All boats shall have a working VHF radio, navigation lights in accordance with USCG regulations, current distress flares, an operational flashlight and an engine or designated tow line. 13.2 Any boat that retires from racing or in distress shall notify the RC on channel 72 at the earliest opportunity. 15. INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance.
