San Antonio Rampage 2014-15 SAN ANTONIO RAMPAGE @ Iowa Wild PREVIEW: The San Antonio Rampage (41-20-5-1) face the Iowa Wild (21-41-2-2) for the final time this season today at 12:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. With a 1-0 overtime win against the Wild last night, the Rampage reached a season-high seven game win streak for the second time this season and tied a franchise record of 20 single season road victories. San Antonio has a chance to set both new records with a win tonight, including tying a franchise-high five game road-win streak in their final of three straight away from the AT&T Center to close out the month of March. San Antonio is first in the West Division and first in the Western Conference with 88 points on the season. The Rampage are 26-6-2-1 against West Division teams and have posted a record of 6-1-0-0 against the Wild this year. San Antonio is 20-12-2-1 on the road, currently on a 4-0-0-1 road-win streak and 7-0-0-0 overall, and are 9-1-0-0 in their last 10 games. Iowa is fifth in the West Division and 15th in the conference with 46 points. They are 6-19-1-1 against division opponents and 8-22-1-1 on home ice. They look to break a 0-4-1-1 losing streak tonight after posting a record of 3-5-1-1 in their last 10 games. LAST TIME AGAINST IOWA: Brett Olson scored just 15 seconds into overtime to give the San Antonio Rampage a 1-0 victory over the Iowa Wild in front of 6,547 at Wells Fargo Arena Friday. With the win, the Rampage maintained a first place standing in the Western Conference. Just like the last meeting between these two teams on March 7, the Rampage and Wild were scoreless through two periods. Neither team could light the lamp in the final 20 minutes and for the fourth time in their last five games, the Rampage needed overtime for a game decision. Olson sealed the 1-0 win for San Antonio, taking a pass from Shane O Brien and putting the puck past John Curry. Michael Houser stopped all 26 shots from Iowa for his second shutout of the season. Houser is 9-1-1 over his last 12 starts and with a season-high six straight wins, holds the franchise record for consecutive wins in a season along with Dan Ellis, who reached the milestone earlier this season. OVERALL AGAINST THE WILD: The Rampage are 7-2-1-3 overall against the Wild, with just 38 goals for and 32 goals against. San Antonio posted a record of 1-1-1-3 in 2013-14, with 17 goals for and 19 goals against. Today s game is the last of an eight-game season series, in which the Rampage have put up a record of 6-1-0-0 with 25 goals for and 14 goals against. At Wells Fargo Arena this season, San Antonio is 2-1-0-0 with five goals for and four goals against. They are 3-2-0-1 in Iowa overall with 13 goals for and 11 goals against. Leading the Wild in scoring is Tyler Graovac, who has 20 goals and 22 assists in 62 games. Graovac leads the team in goals and is tied for second in team assists with Jonathon Blum. Michael Keranen leads the team in assists with 25 and is second in team points with 34. John Curry is 11-18-2 in net with a 2.74 goals against average and a.915 save percentage. TEAM STATS: Bobby Butler leads the team in points with 55, goals with 25 and is tied for first in assists with 30. Butler is seventh in the league as a top scorer and tied for fifth in league goals. Garrett Wilson is tied with Connor Brickley for second in team goals with 21. Mark Mancari is tied for first in assists with 30 and is tied for second with Brickley and now Brett Olson, who had the overtime game-winner last night, in team points with 42. Goaltender Michael Houser, who has made the last 12 starts for the Rampage, is 18-9-3 with a.903 save percentage and a 2.77 goals against average, 20th in the league in wins. He now has two shutouts on the season. Sam Brittain is a perfect 1-0 with a 1.00 save percentage. WILD THING: Having two-straight scoreless period is nothing new between the Wild and Rampage, with their second straight game last night in which neither team lit the lamp in the first two frames of the game. FIRE IN THE HOLE: All but three skaters for the Silver and Black recorded a shot last night, outshooting their opponent for the 45th time this year. SCORELESS HOCKEY: Last night s game was the first time this season the Rampage went into additional time in a scoreless game. NINE LIVES: San Antonio is the only team in the entire AHL to have a nine wins in their last 10 games. SEVEN HEAVEN: The Rampage tied a franchise-high seven game win streak last night for the second time this season. The last time San Antonio won seven straight was from Nov. 9-23 and most recently extending from March 14. The Rampage have a chance to set a new franchise record tonight. COMMIT NO SINS: San Antonio totaled just two penalty minutes the entire game for just the second time this season. The Rampage have only had one game in franchise history in which they were not assessed a single penalty minute. MARCH MADNESS: The Rampage play their final game of March today, after posting a record of 10-1-0-1 with 44 goals for and 27 goals against. They have eight power-play goals in 37 opportunities and have only allowed six power-play goals against in 45 opponent opportunities. They have returned to their old form outshooting their opponent 406-342. BREAKING RECORDS: The Silver and Black are one win away from matching a franchise record for wins in a season, last set at 42 in 2007-08. They are just one road win away from setting a new franchise record for road wins in a season, last set at 20 in 2011-12. San Antonio is just six points away from matching a franchise high in points when they last achieved 94 points in the 2007-08 season. HITTING THOSE GOALS: The Rampage are 16 goals away from matching a franchise record for goals in a season since tallying 238 in 2007-08. BACK IN NET: Michael Houser posted his second shutout of the season last night, stopping all 26 Wild shots last night. SO WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT? The Rampage s magic number to secure a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs is now seven. The regular season ends April 19, the day after San Antonio s last game of the season against the Texas Stars at the Cedar Park Center. CALDER CUP PLAYOFFS: In 2014-15, the AHL will have 16 teams participating in the postseason. Eight teams in each conference shall qualify for the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs. The three division winners in each conference will be seeded first through third (in order of regular-season points) and the next five best teams (in order of regular-season points) will be seeded fourth through eighth. Home ice advantage in the Conference Quarterfinals is granted to those teams seeded first through fourth in each conference. In the Conference Semifinals and Conference Finals, teams will be reseeded according to the same criteria as the Conference Quarterfinals (division leaders will be seeded first and granted home ice advantage while remaining teams will be seeded in order of regular-season points). Home ice advantage in the Calder Cup Finals will be determined by the higher number of points in the final standings at the end of the Schedule of Championship Games. The conference quarterfinals will be bestof-five series. All other series are in a best-of-seven format. JESSICA REDFIELD PRESS BOX: The Rampage announced that the press box for the 2014-15 season will remain as the Jessica Redfield Press Box in honor of Jessica Redfield Ghawi, a San Antonio native who was one of 12 people killed in the movie theatre shooting in Aurora, Colo., in July 2012. Redfield interned at the San Antonio media outlets Ticket 760 and KABB Fox-29 and attended numerous Rampage games and practices. UP NEXT: Rampage return to home ice Thursday to play the Adirondack Flames in a MIX 96.1 $1 drink night. During the month of April, the Rampage will play eight games in the regular season and six of those at the AT&T Center. All stats updated as of 3/28
