IMPORTANT BASKETBALL INFORMATION Please forward to all basketball coaches and review information together After reviewing last year s basketball tournaments, three factors have been considered for the changes that will occur this year: o Safety of all athletes o Positive learning experience for high school student referees o Increased intensity of the game This year, every school participating in intermediate divisional basketball IS REQUIRED to provide a DESIGNATED ADULT REFEREE (18 YEARS OR OLDER) approved in consultation with the principal. This adult will co-referee with the assigned high school student referee. The adult referee may be: o Coach o School staff member o Parent/regular school volunteer o Post-secondary student o Retired staff member The Referee schedule will be provided in the booklet and posted at the site. Referee designate name is to be sent to the site convenor by February 9 th. If a school fails to officiate game(s), the result will be that the school will be assigned a loss, each time. We hope this system will provide safe learning environments for all involved.

TCSAA Athlete s Plea I am the athlete who, through hours of hard work, practice, perseverance and preparation, am here, only by the grace of God, to compete. With the help of my coaches, the support of my family and friends, I honour the gifts given to me by God. The gift of a strong and healthy body, sound mind and determined heart, the gift of a compassionate spirit and the gift of friendship. I promise to put forth my best effort within the spirit of the rules. When I fall, I will get up; when I fail, I will try again; when I succeed I will be humble and kind. I will respect my opponent because I know what they have been through. I ask of the coaches, parents, spectators and fans to respect my teammates and me. Please understand that harsh words and deeds are a negative force in this place. I ask you to represent your school, family and community with dignity.
