The President s Pitch Major Sponsor Drop in and speak to the team at: 228 Como Parade West, Parkdale, or call on 9587 6500 c1/171 Nepean Hwy, Mentone, or call on 9584 1622 Brett Sebire Well after a tough 2013-14 summer at Kingston Saints, we re looking forward to a more successful season at Walter Galt Reserve. Some major changes have occurred in the off-season, not the least of which is the completion of our new ground at Walter Galt in Parkdale. The new oval will advance the development of our cricketers, and make watching cricket very enjoyable for our supporters and local community. Plans are well advanced to get the pitch ready for 2014-15, and many thanks goes to Kingston Council for their efforts in delivering this vital piece of sporting community infrastructure, for us and future generations. We ve also had the pleasure of announcing a new Captain Coach for 2014-15, Luke Wintle. Luke is a former club champion who has experienced success with the Saints and higher levels of cricket, and brings a friendly, welcoming mantra to the Club. He is also fiercely competitive; make no mistake, Wintles are used to winning, and he will be pushing the players to perform at their very best. Last but not least we ve had some administrative changes in the off-season, with the incredibly long and successful stint of Greg Mcleod coming to an end. I ve had the privilege of taking over from Warwick Heinrichs in the big chair; many thanks to Warwick for doing such a great job over the past three seasons. He will continue in the VP role. We also have a somewhat younger and rejuvenated committee, meaning that our Social Events and Juniors Programs have already received some much-needed boosting. In line with this, we ve also revised our Club Strategy, which sees us naturally aiming to be recognised as the leading cricket club in the City of Kingston! All of this makes for a very exciting 2014-15 ahead of us! We look forward to your continued support of the mighty Kingston Saints. See you at the cricket! Visit our website for more great pictures!

Featured Saints With some major on field appointments made in the off-season, we decided to make our two newest recruits, and a special guest, the Featured Saints for August. Luke Juice Wintle The club has started planning for next season and after the departure of last season s coach Craig Entwistle, the club has appointed Luke Wintle as the new Captain Coach. Luke originally played juniors with the club and rose through the ranks, playing nearly 100 1st XI games and scoring over 3,000 runs. He also has had stints at Premier Cricket with Melbourne and Frankston Peninsula. He has also had a decorated football career with St Bedes Mentone Tigers, playing 300+ games and winning numerous individual awards. The Club sees Luke s leadership and ability to mentor the young playing group as fundamental to the future success of the Club. Rohan Besty Best The club also advises that Rohan Best has been appointed Assistant Coach. Rohan has been at Kingston Saints for the past 2 years, where his ability, tactical knowledge for the game and ability to develop the younger players has seen him win the respect of the club in this short time. Besty has previously played for Northcote in Premier Cricket and Plenty Valley in the VSDCA. Walter The Galt Galt Ok, well not strictly a new player, but our home ground at Walter Galt Reserve (opposite St. John Vianneys School) in Parkdale has had a facelift over the last 12 months. The Club is delighted to see the progress made in order to have the new grass and centre square ready for season 2014-15. The Club would like to thank the City of Kingston for its support in making this project possible. When complete this will mean that the Club will belong to one of the best facilities in the area, on and off the field, which is worthy of playing in the highest grade of cricket in the City of Kingston. Make sure you come down to watch the first match on the new surface, to see the 1 st XI play against Mt Waverly on Saturday 4 th October. First ball at 1pm, with food and drinks available from later in the afternoon and into our Season Launch Function, which kicks off at 7.00pm! Sponsorship Opportunities Our new ground has positions available for sponsors signage! Speak to our Sponsorship Coordinator today about these opportunities. Club News Merger Update In July, Kingston Saints Cricket Club received a formal expression of interest from Premier Cricket Club, Hawthorn- Monash Cricket Club. This involved a proposed merger between their club and Kingston Saints Cricket Club, with the new entity to be based in Kingston, and to play in the Premier Cricket Competition. The motion was informally put to the Committee at the July Monthly Meeting, with no motion put forward, but simply for the Committees consideration and some due diligence to be commenced, until further information was made available to Kingston Saints. Since then, unknown to the Committee, there has been movement between Cricket Victoria & Hawthorn, in that they have been negotiating with Dandenong Cricket Club to merge. Cricket Victoria have proposed financial backing for the two Premier Clubs to merge, as this allows for its strategy of expansion in the growing Northern and Western Melbourne growth corridors. It is understood that there have been meetings between the parties for this to occur. As KSCC understand it, the only chance of the merger NOT to occur will be if the members of Dandenong Cricket Club vote against the merger plans. It requires 75% approval vote to pass. There will be an extra-ordinary meeting at Dandenong Cricket Club in September to vote on the merger. KSCC understands that Cricket Victoria have been advised that if the Dandenong proposal falls over, Kingston Saints Cricket Club is the next preferred option. The Committee will advise all members of the outcome between Hawthorn and Dandenong Cricket Clubs as soon as the results of this vote are known. If this vote is not approved, then the proposal would then be put to the KSCC Members for a formal vote. The KSCC Committee understands that the ramifications of a possible merger would affect nearly all stakeholders, and as such takes such matters extremely seriously. There would be numerous positives and negatives to such a concept, as well as numerous details to sort out. As such, the Committee would greatly appreciate it if any questions or comments were submitted through one communication point, namely Phil O Meara. Phil is across the issues in detail, given his roles both at the Club and within the VSDCA. We appreciate the trust and support that the Club s Members afford us, your Committee, and look forward to the Club addressing the matter with a united voice and in a carefully, considered manner. Phil O Meara On behalf of the Kingston Saints Cricket Club Committee August 2014

Team News Pre-Season Training Begins On August 6 th the Kingston Saints Cricket Club Pre-Season officially commenced, with about 20-25 players getting into things at the Springvale Indoor Sports Centre. Coach Luke Wintle took the reigns as the boys were put through their early-season paces. All reports indicate that the vibe was very positive and the skills solid. The session gives a feeling of optimism within the Seniors group for Season 2014-15. Newly bearded 2 nd XI skipper Jamie Pato Parton plots his next furiously red-haired delivery. Been a bit cold over winter Jamie? The conditions were reportedly pretty still, according to 1 st XI keeper Ash Wood. Thanks Ash. Evergreen Mick O Shea warms up for his 426 th Pre-Season. Still showing us the way Mick! Thanks to reporter on the spot Matty McCoy for the pictures!
