SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: ALL RACES January 17th - 24th 2018 1. Rules 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 The CSA Rating Rule will apply to CSA classes. 1.3 No national prescriptions will apply. 2. Notices to Competitors Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located on the beach side of the Barbados Cruising Club (BCC). 3. Changes to Sailing Instructions Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted by 20:00 on the day before it will take effect. 4. Signals made ashore Other than at the start of the Ocean Passage Race to Antigua, no signals will be made ashore. 5. Skipper s Briefings The following skippers briefings will be held at 18:00 at the Radisson Aquatica Resort, situated adjacent to the BCC: Coastal Racing Series and Mount Gay Round Barbados Race - 16th January 2018 Ocean Passage Race to Antigua - 23rd January 2018 6. GPS Tracking Unit All boats competing in the Mount Gay Round Barbados Race and the Ocean Passage Race to Antigua will carry a GPS tracking unit that will be issued at Registration on 16th January 2018. 7. Penalty System RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty, unless the incident occurs within the zone of a rounding or finishing mark. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: ALL RACES January 17th - 24th 2018 8. Protests and Requests for Redress 8.1 Protest forms are available from the Race Committee desk at the BCC. Protests and requests for redress shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit. 8.2 Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the protest committee cabin on the road side of the BCC. 8.3 At Antigua, the Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting (ACYM) Office will be used instead. 8.4 Penalties for breaches of the rules other than a rule of Parts 1 and 2 may be less than disqualification if the protest committee so decides. 9. Safety Regulations 9.1 Boats shall provide the Race Committee with a crew list and any changes to it. 9.2 A boat that retires from a race or is unlikely to finish the race by the time limit shall as soon as possible notify either the Race Committee on VHF channel 11 or the BCC Safety Officer by phone. 9.3 Crew of multihull boats and monohull boats less than 15 feet shall wear adequate personal floatation devices (PFD s) at all times while afloat, except briefly while changing or adjusting clothing or personal equipment. Wet suits and dry suits are not PFDs. 10. Man Overboard If a man overboard is recovered by another vessel it is not necessary for him to be transferred back on board his boat. The boat may continue in the race without the man and another boat may not protest her under RRS 41 (a). This changes RRS 41, 47.2 and 60.1(a). 11. Prizes Prizes will be awarded as detailed in the Notice of Race. 12. Disclaimer of Liability Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 13. Insurance It is recommended that each participating boat be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $1,500,000 USD per incident or the equivalent. 4

APPENDIX TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: COASTAL RACES January 17th - 20th 2018 1. Anchors Anchors shall not be carried over the bow or stern whilst racing in the Coastal Racing Series. 2. Class Flags Class Flags will be: J/24 Blue Non - CSA Rated Yellow CSA Cruising White CSA Racing Orange Multihull Pink If there are other classes they will be advised at the skippers briefing on 16th January 2018. 3. Racing Area The racing area is the south and west coasts of Barbados. 4. The Start The starting line will be in Carlisle Bay between a staff displaying a Mount Gay Rum flag on the committee boat and the course side of a yellow mark. 5. The Finish The finishing line will be in Carlisle Bay between a staff displaying a Mount Gay Rum flag on the committee boat and the course side of a yellow mark. 6. Time Limits J/24 class boats failing to finish within 20 minutes after the first boat sails the course and finishes, and other boats failing to finish by 18:00, will be scored Did Not Finish (DNF) without a hearing. This changes RRS 35. 7. Scoring 7.1 One race is required to be completed to constitute a series. 7.2 Apart from the J/24 class, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores. For the J/24 class, when six or more races have been completed a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 8. Protest Time Limit The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat in the class has finished the last race of the day or when the Race Committee signals no more racing today, whichever is later. 5

APPENDIX TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: THE MOUNT GAY ROUND BARBADOS RACE January 21st 2018 1. The Course The course is around Barbados leaving it to starboard, starting and finishing on the same line, a distance of approximately 60 miles. 2. The Starting and Finishing Line The starting and finishing line will be in Carlisle Bay between a staff displaying a Mount Gay Rum Flag on the committee boat and the flag pole at the BCC displaying a BCC burgee. 3. The Start 3.1 The first start will be at 0700 Hrs Other starting times will be posted on the official notice board by 1600 Hrs 20th January. 3.2 The starting procedure will be notified at the Skippers briefing on the 16th January RRS 26 will not be changed. 3.3 There will be no individual recalls. A boat that is on the course side of the starting line at her starting signal shall not return and will be given a penalty added to her elapsed time of 10 minutes in addition to the time she was over early. A boat that was more than 3 minutes over early will be scored OCS. This changes RRS 28.1, 29.1 and A42 4. The Finish Boats are requested to call the committee boat on channel 11 approximately 1 mile from the finish. 5. Support Boats for Boats less than 15 feet. Support boats for boats less than 15 feet shall: 5.1 Register with the Race Committee at Registration 5.2 Display a flag and carry a GPS tracking unit, both of which will be issued at Registration. 5.3 Report to the Race Committee before the warning signal for the boat being supported and again when the boat finishes. 6. Time Limit Boats failing to finish by 1800 Hrs will be scored Did Not Finish (DNF) without a hearing. This changes RRS 35. 7. Protest Time Limit The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the finish or retirement of the boat, or 1900 Hrs which ever is the earlier. 9

APPENDIX TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: THE OCEAN PASSAGE RACE TO ANTIGUA January 24th 2018 1. The Course The course is Barbados to Antigua, a distance of approximately 265 miles. 2. The Start 2.1 The first start will be at 10:00 2.2 The starting line will be in Carlisle Bay between the flag pole at the BCC displaying a BCC burgee and the course side of a yellow mark approximately 0.6NM to the west. 2.3 The starting procedure will be notified at the Skippers Briefing on 23rd January. RRS 26 may be changed. 2.4 There will be no individual recalls. A boat this is on the course side of the starting line at her starting signal shall not return and will be given a penalty added to her elapsed time of 10 minutes in addition to the time she was over early. A boat that was more than 3 minutes over early will be scored OCS. This changes RRS 28.1, 29.1 and A4.2. 3. The Finish 3.1 The finishing line will be between the signal mast at Fort Charlotte at the Eastern entrance of English Harbour (at 17o00.038N-61o45.641W) and a yellow cylindrical mark its south west at approximately 16 59.850N-61 45.800W. In the event that the mark is missing boats shall leave this position to port. 3.2 Boats are requested to call the Race Committee on channel 6 approximately 2 miles from the finish. 4. Retiring From The Race Further to All Races Sailing Instruction 9, when approaching Antigua, a boat that retires from the race shall instead either notify the Race Committee on channel 6 or Antigua Superyacht Challenge by phone on +1 268 464 2388. 5. Protest Time Limit The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the finish or retirement of the boat. 10

BOAT DOCKING AND MOORING All yachts requiring use of the Shallow Draft or Inner Basin must contact the Regatta Organisers in advance of arrival in Barbados. Shallow Draft - Barbados 50 Dock Located to the north east of the main cruise ship terminal, enter by passing the cruise ship terminal to your starboard, the Barbados 50 dock is positioned straight ahead as you head east into the shallow draft docking area. Vessels wishing to enter or leave the shallow draft docks must hail the Bridgetown Signal Station on channel 12 or 16 to obtain clearance due to the close proximity to Bridgetown Port. The shallow draft has showers, washing machines and Wi-Fi. Berthing in shallow draft will be free during the event. The organisers must be notified of intended berthing location in advance. Inner Basin of the Careenage in Bridgetown The Chamberlain Bridge is at the east end of the careenage in the city of Bridgetown. Passing through the bridge, there are a number of med-style moorings with power. To arrange for a mooring, please call +1-246-434-6100 and request Marine Services. Carlisle Bay Anchoring in Carlisle Bay is permitted. Mooring balls are privately owned and must not be used without permission. Landing area for dinghies is available at the Barbados Cruising Club. The club is not responsible for theft or damage of dinghies or other property. BOAT MEASURING All boats competing in the Coastal Racing Series are encouraged to obtain a CSA measurement. The Barbados CSA measurer is Renata Goodridge who may be contacted on renatabdos@gmail.com to make arrangements. For boats travelling to Barbados from other parts of the Caribbean a list of Caribbean Sailing Association measurers may be found on the CSA website. Monohull boats without a CSA measurement certificate may race in "Non CSA Class" and shall be issued a handicap for the entire event by the BCC, corresponding as near as possible to their type of boat. 11
