In line with the goal and historical traditions of the parade, we invite entertainers and others to participate based exclusively on their ability to provide appropriate family entertainment suitable to the occasion. The Rose, White, and Blue Parade board of directors reserves the right to make all determinations relating to participation in the parade based on entertainment value and preserving the longstanding traditions of this unique national holiday event. PARTICIPATION AGREEMENTS Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability (Indemnity/Hold Harmless Agreement) Participation in the Rose, White & Blue Parade and/or the related Festival/Picnic to be held on July 4, 2017 (hereinafter Events ) shall be at the Participant s own risk. Participant assumes full responsibility for any injuries or damages, and does hereby release and discharge the City of San Jose, the Alameda Business Association, and parade committee members, as well as their respective departments, representatives, members, officers, agents, and employees from any and all claims, demands, damages, rights or causes of action present or future resulting from the undersigned s participation in the Events. I/we hereby understand, voluntarily agree and chose to accept any and all risks, including bodily/personal injury, property damage, and/or other damages which I/we may incur or cause a third party to incur as a result of my/our active and/or passive participation in the Events. PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITIES Fellow Americans and Americans at Heart In addition to our usual line up of Community Organizations, Vintage Automobiles, and local Dignitaries; the Rose, White and Blue 4th of July Parade will feature several new categories of Units to encourage participation by both individuals and groups in celebrating our nation's history as well as our own local community spirit and sense of fun. Living History / Patriotic Symbolism Individuals and groups wishing to participate in the living history unit are encouraged to wear costumes to represent an Era in American history. Participants may select a favorite Era that they wish to represent or help the parade by offering to be assigned to an Era by our Parade Master to fill a hole in history so that we can tell the American story in costume. Units may wear their own costumes or borrow costumes from our Parade Master for the Parade. Wacky Follies Challenge Units This year we are encouraging folks to participate in our Wacky Follies Challenge units to add some more fun and frivolity to the Rose, White & Blue 4 th of July Parade. Gather your neighbors together to represent your Street and join in the fun Both individuals & groups are encouraged to join the Wacky Follies unit of their choice: The Grand Kazoo Band Grab a kazoo, put on a funny band uniform or patriotic costume, and march in the parade while playing patriotic songs on your kazoo no formal training required fun for kids of all ages. Drill Teams that Shouldn t Exist Challenge your creativity and create your own Drill Team for the Parade anything goes. Library carts, lawn mowers, lawn chairs, shopping carts, brief cases, Barbeque grills, power tools, garden tools get creative!! Patriotic Zombies on The Alameda Patriotic zombies from all eras are encouraged to put on their bloody best finery and lurch their way along the Parade Route just don t eat the spectators. Neighborhood Blight Cars Get out that old junker that s been sitting in your driveway for years and show it off in this year s Parade points deducted for restoration attempts and freshly cleaned vehicles.
