August 2016 Barb Wyllie ~ Editor Distribution 1,141 From The Governors Chai Please send submissions to Barb at: Deadline: 20 th of the month From the Governor s Desk DISTRICT EVENTS AT A GLANCE I have begun my club visits and it s wonderful to meet everyone and hear about all the great club service projects and events. Summer is a busy time for everyone and many clubs are working on summer fundraisers and planning fall events. Rotary Night at the ValleyCats baseball team will be Thursday August 18 at Joe Bruno field at Hudson Valley Community College. We will be honoring all our Rotarians of the Year and all Rotarians and guests will have time to get on the field to be a part of the pregame ceremonial first pitch. This is a beautiful baseball stadium and a great chance to watch professional baseball. Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased on the district website or clicking on the link in the ValleyCats ad on the next page. Ticket orders must be placed by August 15. We will also be repeating another District favorite, Rotary night at the Lake Theater at the Holiday Inn in Lake George on Wednesday night August 31, beginning at 6pm. This year s play is Almost, Maine and stars Hillary Parker, the daughter of Lake George Rotarian Sherm Parker. The play takes place in a mythical town in remote Maine and is a delightful midwinter night s dream of love gained and lost among the quirky residents. Tickets are $55 including show, dinner, tax and tips. Call Sharon Reynolds at the Lake George Holiday Inn at 668-5762 x421 for reservations. We hope to have a full house of Rotarians; it's always a fun night! I m looking forward to meeting everyone at your clubs. See you soon! A great comedy: Almost, Maine by John Cariani On a cold, clear moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the starfilled sky above, the town s quirky residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised and hearts broken but the bruises heal and the hearts mend... almost... in this delightful midwinter night s dream.
