Year 4 Writers Of The Week For the last two weeks 4S, 3K and 3M went to Knox Leisure Works in the very middle of playtime/11:15. We wore what we wear to bed, we helped people in distress and we finished on a good note. On the second Wednesday of swimming my group wore our PJs. I found it nearly impossible to swim with them on, but I found it funny watching other people do it. It was very cool when we went under the water. It was good when the rest of my group took their goggles off because they felt my pain. I don't think they liked it though. We eventually took our PJs off. I think it took me seven minutes to get them off. We helped each other by throwing ropes, throwing boards and holding out noodles. We lay on our bellies and held out the noodle and pulled them in. My partner pulled me in like he was an old man who I had pushed in the water earlier. I mean he really did not want to do it. When I threw the board to him it went right over his head. I threw him the rope and everything went well this time. The Fun Day was a very fun day. First, we went down the waterside. I went down as fast as a gun shot. Second, we went in the water and hit a ball in the air to each other. We had to hit it ten times without it hitting the water, which we didn't. Last, we made a whirlpool. We had to run in the water, then float on our backs. I think they should make that an Olympic sport. 100 metre water run. Overall, swimming was fantastic. We swam in our PJs, we did some rescuing and had a whole day of fun. Everyone had a great time and I look forward to doing it next year. By Thomas Will 4S On the 16th of February we had our swimming program at Knox Leisure Works. We had our sessions with three different classes. We learnt lots of incredible and difficult skills. I learnt how to rescue people in lots of different ways! Our group learnt a lot of swimming skills and tips. We learnt about skulling, freestyle, torpedoes and backstroke. I was a little stuck on the backstroke but our coach Mandy helped me in a lot of different ways. We also did some diving. Firstly, I was a little uncomfortable with it but after I tried it I felt thrilled to try it again. We learnt that we can save someone's life. First we had to throw a board to them and tell them to do their backstroke. After, we lay down on our stomach and pushed the noodle so they could grab on. Then, we wore the life jacket and learnt what to do when you need help. At the end of the swimming weeks it was FUN DAY! That means we got to go on the waterside and play some games involved in swimming. My favourite was when I went on the waterside. I went slowly but it was still enjoyable! Overall, we've learnt a lot of skills, learnt tips for saving people when they need help and had our fun day! I thought swimming was the most fantastic thing in the world! By Ji-Min Lee 4S I went to the swimming program at Knox Leisure Works with my class. We started on the 16th and ended on the 27th of February. We went on a bus, we had a Pyjama Day and we had a Fun Day. Firstly, we went on the bus and my favourite driver was fantastic Phil. On one day he put on Dragon Riders of Berk. On another day there was a bee on the bus and he spoke through his walky talky. He was AMAZING!! Secondly, on Pyjama Day our teacher was Ariarne and she was really nice. That day she let us go for two runs around the lane. Swimming with long pants on was really hard, especially treading water. Finally, we had a Fun Day! We got to go on the water slide and in the warm pool. We made waves for a wave pool and we made a current. Overall, we went on an awesome bus ride, we swam in PJs and we had a Fun Day. I think every child should go swimming. By Harrison Congreve 4H

My class and two other grades, that are older than us, went to swimming. It was at Knox Leisure Works and we went from the 16th to the 27th of February. We had a special Fun Day, a Pyjama Day and we had some fun times on the bus. On the last day of swimming we had a spectacular FUN DAY!!! We got to go on the water slide but it was way slower that usual but I still enjoyed it. We played a game sort of like Musical Chairs but with no music or chairs, the chairs were boards and the music was a teacher talking. We had Pyjama Day on Wednesday 25th of February, it was our second last proper day of lessons. We had to get into the pool with our PJs on. It felt so soggy, icky and heavy. It was for a safety reason because you might end up in the water with pyjamas or clothes on one day. On the bus we had some fun times. We watched a bit of a movie, it was interesting. Everyone chatted and chatted and chatted. My friends and I made up songs, everyone enjoyed it. Overall, I enjoyed the swimming program because of FUN DAY, Pyjama Day and the adventures on the bus going to swimming. I know I enjoyed it and I'm sure everyone else did too. By Tom Edwards 4H For two weeks we went to Knox Leisure Works for swimming. We did lots of things like get to know our groups and did all different swimming strokes. I only went for one week. We also got to know our teachers and also what time we left and returned to school. At swimming we got to know what our groups are. I was in Shark, one of the top groups and the group s colour was black. Most of the first week (I was sick and couldn t go the second week), I was with Ariane and for one day I was with Mark. Ariane had orange red coloured hair and Mark had brown. They both were really nice and they helped me learn more and they helped me when I did it wrong, so I could get it right. In my swimming group was Lexi, Sam, Ethan, Jeffery, Jenna and Tyler. When we did our strokes, we swam either halfway or a whole length of the pool. I learned a lot more strokes like breaststroke, butterfly, survival backstroke and backstroke. All of the strokes have different styles, some might be sort of the same but not all the same. It was very tiring most of the time but it was fun. We arrived at Knox Leisureworks at around 10:30am and we went in the pool and did different activities for at least 40 minutes to 1 hour. Then we would get ready to go back on the bus at 12:00. The bus takes 15 minutes to get to the swimming pool and back to school. Then we would get our lunch or snack. In conclusion, at swimming, I learned who was in my swimming group, all the strokes and how they had different styles for each one. My swimming teachers taught me how to do each swimming stroke right. It was fun to leave school for a little while in the morning and return just before lunchtime. By Hayley Simpson 4HU
