For Immediate Release Marathon 101 Cheer for the Runners Campaign Cheering Team Competition Students Spare no Efforts to Cheer for Marathon Runners [Hong Kong---12 February 2011] The Marathon 101 Education Programme - Cheer for the Runners Campaign - Cheering Team Competition, was held at the Marathon Expo today on the central lawn of Victoria Park. 15 teams comprising about 300 primary and secondary school students competed for various awards by performing innovative slogans, choreographed dances and gymnastic routines to cheer for the runners in next week s Marathon. Organized by Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited and Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association, with the support and endorsement of the Hong Kong SAR Government s Education Bureau, the Marathon 101 Education Programme comprises a wide range of extra-curricular activities centred around the Marathon theme. The Marathon 101 Cheering Team Competition is one of the most popular activities amongst schools. Winning cheering teams will be invited to cheer for 65,000 runners at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on 20 February (Sunday). Mr. Sundeep Bhandari, Regional Head of Global Markets, North East Asia, Standard Chartered Hong Kong said, The programme aims to instill the spirit of Marathon in the younger generation, and it is encouraging to see such overwhelming support from Hong Kong s schools. In fact, over 75% of primary and secondary schools have participated in the programme. We will continue our efforts to help students learn the importance of a never-give-up attitude and live up to the spirit of Marathon. Sitting on the panel of judges were Mr. Sundeep Bhandari; Mr. Edward Wong Wai On, Coordinator of the Marathon Expo 2011; Mr. Cheung Chi Hung, Honorary Advisor of Marathon 101 Education Programme; Mr. Lam Wai Choi, Chairman, Hong Kong Extra-curricular Activities Masters' Association; and Mr. To Siu Leung, Chief Executive Supervisor, Association of Hong Kong Dance Organisation. Awards were also presented to outstanding primary and secondary school participants in the Marathon 101 Little Reporters programme. Through this initiative, students learned about the basic journalistic skills of interviewing and reporting, and they worked together with media professionals to produce a newspaper featuring the Marathon. The free newspaper will be distributed to the public together with Metro Daily on 15 February 2011.

Lui Cheung Kwong Lutheran Primary School and Lui Cheung Kwong Lutheran College, the champion team in the Primary School and Secondary School category of the Marathon 101 Education Programme Cheering Team Competition, will cheer for tens of thousands of runners at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on 20 February.
