SHOWING RULES AND INFO First Ridden: A class for riders 10 years and under on a pony not exceeding 12.2hh. To be ridden in a snaffle bridle. Cantering optional in own show. Please note the above 2 classes are judged on the suitability of the pony to carry a beginner and as a lead rein pony. It is not judged on the ability of the rider. Beginner Rider: A class for any combination as there is no age or equine height limit. This is a class for the rider that is just starting out and helpers are allowed in the ring but no lead rein, and no cantering. The class is about the rider not the horse/pony. Snaffle bridles only. Rider not permitted to enter any other class except lead rein and first ridden. Friesians: A class for the Friesian breed of horse. Driving Type: A class for the horse or pony that s suitable to be driven. Club Championship Trophy The club championship trophy (for members only) is awarded to rider/mount combination to consistently compete and who attend either a start of year set up/or end of year put away work party and one other from the following dates 22nd April, 6th May, 20th May, 1st July, 15th July, 12th August and 23rd September. You need to have competed in all 4 disciplines to include: Showing - Ridden and Inhand Jumping Dressage 30 ENTRY INFORMATION Dressage Entries must be made in advance including payment and should be received by the Friday prior to the show on the following weekend (1 week in advance) NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCOMMODATED. SHOWING RULES AND INFO Scarred/Blemished: In-hand, open to any horse/pony that may be scarred or blemished. Must be sound. Sports Horse Type Inhand & Ridden For registered sports horses or horses of sports horse type exceeding 14.2hh. To be judged on sporting ability and manners and will be required to jump in the ridden class. Family Mount: Not to exc. 15hh. This horse/pony should be suitable for any family member to ride. Must be ridden in a snaffle bridle. May be asked to swap mounts Any Age/Any Breed: Both ridden and in-hand, literally for anyone. Rule: to be judged on manners and performance only. Condition & Turnout: An in-hand class judged on the condition/presentation of your horse or pony and how you are turned out. Youngstock: An in-hand class for 1, 2 and 3 year old horses/ponies. You should enter the ring with either a halter on your equine or with a bridle and bit (dependent on age). Mountain and Moorland: This class is held for both in-hand and ridden classes and is for the breeds that are native to Great Britain. Purebreds should not be plaited but partbreds/unregistered may be plaited. Paints, Spots, Palominos, Duns, Roans and Cremellos: This class is held for both in-hand and ridden and is for any horse/pony which falls into the categories as in the class description. Cobs of any type: An in-hand and ridden class for the cob type horse/pony, exceeding 14hh. Veterans: In-hand and ridden classes for the equine 15 20 years (young veteran) and over 20 years. Classes to be split at the discretion of the judge. Young Handler/Senior Handler: An in-hand class judged on the way the handler handles the equine. Young handlers are deemed as competitors aged 16 and under as of the 1st January during the year in which the competition takes place. Young handler is split 7-11yrs and 12-16 yrs, Senior handler is 17 years and over. M&M Lead Rein: A class for rider 8 years or under riding a pony not to exceed 12hh. To be ridden in a snaffle bridle and lead rein to be attached to the noseband. Rule: Combination eligible to enter the Beginner Rider Class but no other ridden class off the lead rein today, nor must they have successfully entered into any other class off the lead rein in the past with the exception of Beginner Rider and Tack & Turnout. Stallions & Colts: A class for any breed Stallion and Colts. 4 29

SHOWING RULES AND INFO Ridden Hunter: A class for horses exceeding 15hh which are Hunter Type. Show Hunter Pony: A class for ponies and horses up to 15hh of show hunter type. Arabs pure/part-bred/anglo: In-hand and ridden classes for the Arabs whether pure/ part-bred or Anglo. Foreign Breeds: Any horse that is not native e.g. Friesian, Hanoverian etc. Thelwells: A class for the scruffy Thelwell looking ponies. Riding Club Horse & Pony: These classes will be judged on the following: First Impression, Manners, Conformation, Show & Jump. Rule: Snaffle bridle only. Working Hunter: For horses exceeding 15hh. Will be required to jump rustic fences up to 3. Jumping to be held first and those who are clear will then be invited to come back into the rind to perform their showing show. Boots and martingale are permitted for the jumping phase, only boots to be removed for the showing phase. Working Hunter Pony: For ponies not exceeding 15hh. Will be required to jump rustic fences up to 2 6. Jumping to be held first and those who are clear will then be invited to come back into the rind to perform their showing show. Boots and martingale are permitted for the jumping phase, only boots to be removed for the showing phase. Working Hunter Cradle Stakes: For ponies not exceeding 122cms (12.2hh). Riders not to have attained their 9th. birthday before 1st. January in the current year. Maximum height and spread for fences 55cms. Junior/Senior Rider: A class to demonstrate the riders ability to handle the horse. May be required to jump and/or swap mounts. Riding Horse/Pony : Competitors in this class will be required to trot and canter in a group and perform an individual display. Novice Pony: Not to exceed 14.2hh. This class is designed for the combinations who are true novices. Those who lack confidence and who would not be happy entering into a normal ridden class where you are expected to canter together. You will however be expected to canter in your individual show. Rule: Combination not to have won more than 3 ridden showing classes above a novice level (regardless of whether the show has been judged on horse or rider). To be ridden in a snaffle bridle only. Novice Horse: 14.3hh and over. See rules for Novice Pony. Most Appealing Gelding/Mare: Two seperate in-hand classes to show off the handsome boy s and pretty mares. THURROCK RIDING CLUB are sponsoring the show jumping ring at the ORSETT SHOW this year (first Saturday in September) Also The Orsett Show are creating a dedicated Championship which will support and promote the local riding clubs and amateur riders, resulting in an Essex Championship Final to be held at the Orsett Show. Also a free Thurrock membership for 2018 will be awarded to all winners. JUMPING RULES AND INFO Please enter at the entry caravan and then ensure that your number is entered onto the white board at the side of the jumping ring at the start of each class you are entering. All Classes will be run under Table A5 rules: Fences 1-6 jumped as normal, 7-end jumped as timed. All competitors to jump all fences. X-Poles Rider not to have had more than two wins in this class. Classes for lead rein and non lead rein 40cm Rider not to have jumped higher than 45cm or have had two wins in this class 50cm Rule: Combination not to have had 3 wins at this level or have jumped higher than 60cm 50cm Pairs A fun class with 2 riders and 2 horses. The class is one round against the clock with penalty seconds added for a knock down. Fastest combined time wins. Rule: Both combinations not to have jumped higher than 60cm to be eligible for this class. 60cm This is for those progressing from the 50cm. Fillers are not generally used but may be placed at the side of the wings. Rule: Combination not to have had 3 wins at this level 70cm A class for the combination who are now confident to tackle a course of jumps which are 70cm in height and slightly bigger for the second part of course. Rule: Combination not to have had 3 wins at this level 70cm Pairs A fun class with 2 riders and 2 horses. The class is one round against the clock with penalty seconds added for a knock down. Fastest combined time wins. Rule: Competitors who have competed in the 50cm pairs are not eligible for this class. 80cm This class is for those who want to jump higher, with spreads and are a little more competitive with turns etc. Rule: Open to all. Open The biggest of our classes here at Thurrock, not usually tackled by many! The jumps 95cm in height.. If you are not there at the correct time you will be eliminated. The show MUST run to time to ensure that we are fair to everyone. Your dressage time takes precedence over all other classes. Level 1 - Walk & Trot. These tests are for the absolute beginner, for new combinations or riders just coming off lead rein, see tests listed below. Combinations not to have won 3 Walk/Trot tests, ridden at the next level or above ie. Prelim. TRC Beginners Test 1 is renamed TRC Walk & Trot 1 Pony Club D is renamed TRC Walk & Trot 2 TRC Beginners Test 3 is renamed TRC Walk & Trot 3 Pony Club Walk & Trot 2013 is renamed TRC Walk & Trot 4 Intro A, Intro B and Intro C Level 2 - Progressive These tests are designed for the combination who are moving on from Walk & Trot tests but are able to canter. Tests listed below. Combination not to have won 3 progressive tests or have been placed in a BD Test Novice or above. Some tests are easier than others and we try to alter the level of difficulty from show to show. Rule: Open to all. Novice Tests Rule: Open to all. There are very strict rules about what you can and can t use in dressage tests, comprehensive rules can be found on the BD website but generally they are: no martingales, no boots, no lozenges. DRESS CODE FOR SHOWING & DRESSAGE Dressage Any colour jacket, beige or white jods, long or short boots according to age and gloves must be worn. In hand Showing Jacket or waistcoat, slacks or beige jodhpurs, comfortable boots to enable running. Juniors MUST wear hard hats and seniors caps, trilby s etc. Gloves and a show cane (no longer than 30 inches). No schooling whips. It is required that ALL competitors in in-hand classes adhere to the above dress code. If senior competitors choose not to wear protective headgear any accident will be at their own risk. Ridden Showing - According to class Show ponies, horses, Arabs etc. Navy or black jackets, canary or beige jods, long or short boots according to age, velvet hats or velvet covered skull caps, brown or black gloves matching show cane. Button hole, tie to match show brow band. Stock. Numnah same colour as saddle. Hunter, Cob and M&M Tweed jackets, stock or tie, beige or canary jods, long or short boots, velvet hat or velvet skull cover, black or tan gloves matching show cane. Numnah same colour as saddle. Bridle plain of a heavier weight. Plain is the order of the day. Working Hunter Same as above although black jackets can be worn. Grooms Grooms entering the ring to assist in stripping mounts and to help in remounting, should be as smart in appearance as possible, carrying the least equipment. It is suggested that protective headgear be worn whilst in the ring, in view of fatal accidents during the 2008 season at other shows, if you choose not to wear protective headgear Thurrock Riding Club cannot be held responsible for injuries. When entering or leaving the ring you should do so from behind the mounts so as not to interfere with competitors individual show or judges view. No facial jewellery or earrings (except small studs) is permitted in any class. Remember you may be judged on how you look and may lose marks for a scruffy turnout. Whilst every care is taken to maintain a safe environment, TRC cannot accept responsibility for the safety of horse/rider or visitors 16. Any objections to decisions made should be made in writing at the entry caravan and accompanied by 20 no later than 1 hour after the event that you are objecting to. On receiving the objection, the committee members available (not less than 3 in number) will consider the objection 17. The rules above and those detailed in the schedule may shadow official bodies rules (such as BSJA) but the complete rules are those of TRC and the committee hold the final decision regardless of other official bodies rules 18. Horses and ponies must be four years old and over in all ridden classes. The age should be calculated from 1st Jan in the year of their birth 19. Any person seen riding excessively will be asked to dismount and entries refused 20. Please only walk your horse/pony into the ring 21. Any person who conducts themselves in a disgraceful manner (including using foul language) will be asked to leave the showground and will be refused entry at future shows 22. It is strongly advised that no facial jewellery or earrings (except small studs) to be worn by competitors in the ring - if an accident should occur we are not held responsible 23. All grooms who enter the ring must be smartly dressed and be wearing the correct headwear 24. Outside coaching to competitors in the ring is strictly prohibited. Riders may be disqualified for receiving outside assistance of any nature 25. No lunging in the warm up areas 26. It is advised that hard hats should be worn with chin straps in in-hand classes. This is mandatory for junior competitors. If competitors choose not to do so the club cannot be held responsible for any accidents that happen. 27. Excessive use of whips will not be tolerated nor mistreatment of equines. 28. Spurs not to be worn by riders under the age of 16 years in showing and Dressage or under 12 years in jumping. 29. PLEASE PICK UP YOUR DROPPINGS BEFORE LEAVING It is a condition of entry that all competitors agree to abide by the rules as set out above and in the rest of the schedule, and payment of an entry fee shall be deemed to be acceptance of this condition. 23

GENERAL RULES Listed below are general rules which relate to ALL classes and should be read and adhered to at all times. 1. Rosettes will be awarded to sixth place 2. Any perpetual trophies will only be awarded to members of the club who have attended the required work parties. 3. Once as a combination you have been awarded the Prelim end of year dressage trophy you will not be eligible to win this again no matter how many points you accumulate. 4. Etiquette prevails that only four ridden classes and one inhand class at any show per mount, jumping is only 3 classes per mount are allowed. 5 classes in total at any show. Jumping is included as a ridden class. If you exceed this rule no points at the show will be awarded in the case of members. 5. It is not permitted to enter open classes as well as novice classes in show jumping 6. If the committee feel that any competitor enters into the wrong class for the combinations ability (either higher or lower) elimination will be enforced on health & safety grounds with no refunds 7. Entry fees will not be refunded unless the organisers cancel the event or on production of a vets certificate 8. Junior members to be 16 years and under as at 01.01.17 but must be a minimum age of 5 to compete, excluding lead rein which is a minimum age of 3) 9. Dressage entries must be sent by post by the date given on the schedule, payment must be included, late entries cannot be accommodated. 10. Correct riding attire must be worn at all shows. It is the responsibility of everyone mounted (or in the case of minors their parent/guardians) whether a competitor or not, to ensure that appropriate protective headgear is worn conforming to current specifications, properly fitted and secured with a chin strap or harness 11. No horse or pony to be left unattended whilst tied to your lorry or trailer 12. All dogs are to be kept on a lead at all times on the showground, any fouling must be disposed of by the owner. 13. TRC, judges and officials will accept no responsibility for any loss or damage to belongings or persons visiting the showground 14. We reserve the right to refuse entry or to cancel any shows as we see fit without an explanation. If under exceptional circumstances i.e. inclement weather a show has to be cancelled it will be posted on the website by the Saturday morning before the show or call the Chairman if in doubt and entry fees will be refunded 22 11

It costs in excess of 14,000 per month to keep the Sanctuary operating. We then have to pay for the vital veterinary care that almost every new intake requires.
