3.1-2 Minutes Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 7:55 p.m. Dean McLeod, Chair, presented Harnek Singh Rai, Member, with a letter of congratulations as an inductee to the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame. Committee congratulated Mr. Rai on his induction to the Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. McLeod advised that he was continuing efforts to contact the other inductees. 1. Approval of Agenda SHF006-2018 That the agenda for the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee Meeting of February 1, 2018 be approved, as printed and circulated. Carried 2. Declarations of Interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act 3. Previous Minutes 3.1. Minutes - Brampton Sports Hall of Fame - January 18, 2018 The minutes were approved by Council on January 24, 2018 and provided for Committee s information. 4. Delegation/Presentations 5. Reports 6. Sub-Committees 6.1. Update by Event Sub-Committee Member, re: Event Sub-Committee Meeting on January 24, 2018 Sindy Maguire, Event Sub-Committee Member, provided an overview of the items discussed at the Event Sub-Committee meeting on January 24, 2018. She outlined the responsibilities of the Festival Special Events Office (FSEO) staff, Committee members and Committee support staff. 2018 02 01 Page 2 of 5

3.1-3 Minutes Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee Committee discussion and suggestions included the following: Cost of event tickets remain the same as 2017 at $55.00 each Reserve tables for larger groups Script for Master of Ceremonies to be provided by Committee Chair Script and biographies for inductees prepared by Committee member Master of Ceremonies to be confirmed by Committee Decision regarding invites to VIPs and dignitaries remains with Committee All items around communication will be handled by Communications staff, such as, cost of tickets, invitation to staff, notice/media release for the event FSEO staff will arrange a meeting with Rose Theatre to discuss event Councillor Bowman referenced a female wrestler from Brampton as a possible VIP on the guest list and offered to provide her address to staff. Dean McLeod, Chair, advised that Kotak Law has offered a spectator box for the Brampton Beast hockey game on Friday, April 8, 2018. The Powerade Centre has also donated a spectator box. Mr. McLeod will provide details of the event directly to members. The following motion was considered: SHF007-2018 That the update by Sindy Maguire, Event Sub-Committee Member, to the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee meeting of February 1, 2018, re: Event Sub-Committee Meeting of January 24, 2018 be received. Carried 7. Other/New Business 7.1. Discussion, re: Review and Selection of Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Keynote Speaker Garry Hardy, Supervisor, Sports Brampton, reminded members that they were provided a list of potential keynote speakers supplied by the National Speakers Bureau to review. A copy of the list was circulated. Committee consideration of this matter included discussion and suggestions as follows: Athletic accomplishments and background of the speakers Connection to Brampton and the suggestion that the speaker should be someone local Budget limitation restricts the choice of speaker, especially if the person is from outside of the province 2018 02 01 Page 3 of 5

3.1-4 Minutes Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee Availability of speaker on the date of the Induction Ceremony Individual with a high profile may increase attendance; however, would need to be notified a year in advance of the event Reminder that Committee has the option to choose a speaker outside of the individuals recommended by the Bureau Following consideration of the matter, Committee selected Damon Allen, who is described by the Bureau as a Four-time Grey Cup Champion & Pro Football s Most Prolific Quarterback, as the keynote speaker. In response to questions, Mr. Hardy confirmed that he will contact Mr. Allen and, that if required, a deposit will be made to secure his services for the event. He advised that names of other potential speakers will be requested for consideration in the event Mr. Allen is unavailable. The following motion was considered: SHF008-2018 1. That the list of keynote speakers to Sports Hall of Fame Committee meeting of February 1, 2018, re: Review and Selection of Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Keynote Speaker be received; and, 2. That Damon Allen, considered by the National Speakers Bureau as one of the greatest CFL quarterbacks of all-time, be selected as the keynote speaker at the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on May 15, 2018; and 3. That staff follow the required procedure to secure the services of Mr. Allen for the event. Carried 7.2. Discussion, re: Purchase of Brampton Sports of Hall Fame Golf Shirts Dean McLeod, Chair, inquired about the purchase of Brampton Sports Hall of Fame golf-shirts for new inductees and members of Committee. The current inventory consists of a few extra-large size shirts. Staff confirmed that the budget allows for the purchase of golf shirts by the Committee. The following motion was considered: SHF009-2017 That funds from the Community Services budget be allocated to the purchase of golf shirts in various sizes with the City of Brampton Sports Hall of Fame logo. Update by City Clerk's Office staff, re: Committee Vacancy Committee was advised by City Clerk s Office staff that the process was underway by the City Clerk to fill the existing vacant position on the Committee. 8. News Items Future / Potential Inductees Ken Giles Ken Giles, Committee Member, provided information on the accomplishments of various Brampton athletes including football, wrestling, hockey, basketball, relay and soccer. 10. 7.1-1 communication plan Brampton Sports Hall of Fame This is a two-part communication plan, including the Induction Ceremony and Call for Nominations BACKGROUND Founded in 1979, the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame is intended to honour Brampton residents (past or present) who have made outstanding athletic achievements and/or contributions to the development of sport. The Hall of Fame inducts new members annually, in the categories of Athletes, Builders, Veterans and Teams, selected by the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee. The public is welcome and encouraged to nominate potential inductees. The Hall of Fame resides in the Powerade Centre. Plans are in the works to expand the space, possibly relocating, but details are not yet confirmed. INDUCTION CEREMONY EVENT DETAILS 38 th Annual Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Tuesday, May 15, 2018 Rose Theatre Brampton Cost: $55 Inductees: Harnek Singh Rai (Builder - Powerlifting) Rosemary Miller (Builder Tennis and 55+ Sports) Michael Weaver (Athlete - Hockey) Richard Souce (Athlete - Boxing) Keynote Speaker: Damon Allen, Former CFL quarterback and four-time Grey Cup Champion CALL FOR NOMINATIONS DETAILS The 2019 nomination deadline is June 15, 2018. Anyone can make a nomination. Nominees must have a connection to Brampton and have made outstanding contributions and achievements in sport.
