AthenrySchedule2016(32Page) 19/5/16 11:45 am Page 12 Class 42 Open Ridden Racehorse to Riding Horse Open to thoroughbred horses that have started under rules on either the track or point to point ridden as a hunter style class to display walk, trot, canter, gallop, rein back and halt. Passport and racing details to be made available for inspection on the day of the show. Competitors must have attained their 15th birthday. Proper show turnout is essential. Format of the class The class will be run as a hunter style class with competitors riding as a group in which horses will perform walk, trot, canter, and gallop. As horses change rein in trot they should be able to show a few steps of extension. Rein back is required and may be performed either by the competitor or by the Riding Judge, whichever is judge s preference. Horses will be called into a line up by Judges on preference or as instructed. Horses to be ridden by the Riding Judge. During this time Non-riding Judge to score each horse individually on its paces. Riding Judge to provide a score on control and ride of each horse immediately after it is ridden. Ridden Judge may either perform the rein back or alternatively may ask the competitor to do so when they step forward from the line up and before the Ridden Judge mounts. Ring Steward should total each sheet as the scoring is completed. Conformation is not taken into account by Racehorse to Riding Horse Ireland as a horse can race and win at the highest level with conformation issues. In addition blemishes such as scars, splints, curbs, and stringhalt are to be ignored. Scores attained on the score sheet determine the winner and other placings. Score sheets to be made available to competitors after the class and must be returned to the show office (unless the competition forms part of a league and in which case score sheets will be available when the league concludes). THE JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL! Points to Note Racehorse to Riding horse Ireland judges horses on the level of training, control, obedience and manners first and foremost. However the judge may use their discretion should a horse misbehave and the judge feels that it is out of context for the animal, for example that there is an unusual distraction outside of the ring. The judge is looking for a horse in his/her opinion he/she would be happy to take out to any event and feel safe to ride. The horse should be relaxed, responsive and balanced in his paces, canter on the correct lead, rein back a few steps in a straight line, and be able to show a few strides of extension in trot. Return from the gallop to a halt without a battle. Halt to be held for 5 seconds. In other words the horse is judged on suitability as a good riding horse capable of showing a little extra in his schooling (rein back and extended trot).
