Section 1.03 FEES a) Each participant shall pay a participation fee set by the Parks and Recreation Department. b) All fees shall be paid in full by the designated due date set by the Parks and Recreation Department. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS. c) There will be no refunds once the schedules have been published. d) All participants are required to play game schedules as posted. Game schedules will not be changed to accommodate individuals. The only changes to game schedules will be made by Parks & Recreation Staff due to unforeseen administrative or facility related circumstances. Section 1.04 ELIGIBILTY a) All participants must have attained the age of fifteen (15) prior to the registration date. b) Participants must either live, work, or worship within the city limits of Plano. Part-time jobs do not fulfill the work requirement. However, non-resident teams will be permitted on a space-available basis. c) No player may participate who has been suspended from any other affiliated Parks & Recreation activity until approved to play by the Parks & Recreation Department. Section 1.05 SCHEDULES a) The league schedule will be e-mailed and posted on the website weekly, along with the previous week s results. Article II. Rules Section 2.01 FORMAT a) The league will be played in a ladder format. The ladder is designed so that players will primarily play individuals of similar skill.

b) Players ranking on the ladder is based upon the winning percentage (the ratio of points won to total points possible) of each individual. Players will move either up or down on the ladder based on their winning percentage. c) The results of the ten most recent weeks of play will be used for this calculation of the cumulative results of the entire season. d) Each week, players will be placed into groups of four (4) in the order of their ranking on the ladder for match play. Each player is expected to play every week unless advance notice has been given to the City of Plano Adult Sports Department. e) All players will play three (3) doubles games in a round robin fashion with the other three (3) players of the foursome. At the start of the game, players will decide who serves first and choice of side. f) MISSED MATCHES WILL NOT BE MADE UP. g) Percentages are based only those games actually played. After the matches have been played, players record their scores on the score sheet. There is a maximum of 45 points that can be earned per week. Section 2.02 SERVING a) The serve must be made underhand. b) Paddle contact with the ball must be below the server s waist. c) The serve is initiated with at least one foot behind the baseline; neither foot may contact the baseline or court until after the ball has been struck. d) The serve is made diagonally crosscourt and must land within the confines of the opposite diagonal court. A serve may not land in the non-volley zone. e) Only one serve attempt is allowed, except in the event of a let (the ball touches the net on the serve and lands in the proper service court; let serves are replayed). Section 2.03 SERVICE SEQUENCE a) Both players on the serving doubles team have the opportunity to serve and score points until they commit a fault (except for the first service sequence of each new game, when only one of the team members will be allowed to serve). b) The first serve of each side-out is made from the right-hand court. c) If a point is scored, the server switches sides and the server initiates the next serve from the left-hand court. d) As subsequent points are scored, the server continues switching back and forth until a fault is committed and the first server loses the serve. e) When the first server loses the serve, the partner then serves from the side of the court where they are presently standing (except for the first service of the game). f) The second server continues serving until his/her team commits a fault and loses the serve to the opposing team. g) Once the service goes to the opposition (at side out), the first serve is from the right-hand court and both players on that team have the opportunity to serve and score points until their team commits two faults. Section 2.04 SCORING a) Points are scored only by the serving team. b) Matches will be played to fifteen (15) points, the winning team only needing to win by one point.

c) When the serving team s score is even (0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14) the player who was the first server in the game for that team will be in the right-side court when serving or receiving; when odd (1,3,5,7,9,11,13) that player will be in the left-side court when serving or receiving. Section 2.05 DOUBLE-BOUNCE RULE a) When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce before returning, and then the serving team must let it bounce before returning, thus two bounces. b) After the ball has bounced once in each team s court, both teams may either volley the ball (hit the ball before it bounces) or play it off a bounce (ground stroke). Section 2.06 NON-VOLLEY ZONE a) The non-volley zone is the court area within seven (7) feet on both sides of the net. b) Volleying is prohibited within the non-volley zone. c) It is a fault if, when volleying the ball, the player steps on the non-volley zone, including the line and/or when the players momentum causes them or anything they are wearing or carrying to touch the nonvolley zone including the associated lines. d) It is a fault if, after volleying, a player is carried by momentum into or touches the non-volley zone, even if the volleyed ball is declared dead before it happens. e) A player may legally be in the non-volley zone any time other than when volleying a ball. Section 2.07 LINE CALLS a) A ball contacting any line, except the non-volley zone line on a serve, is considered in. b) A serve contacting the non-volley zone line is short and a fault. c) Line calls are to be fairly called by all players. Section 2.08 FAULTS a) A fault is any action that stops play because of a rule violation. b) A fault by the receiving team results in a point for the serving team. c) A fault by the serving team results in the server s loss of serve or side out. d) A fault occurs when: a. A serve does not land within the confines of the receiving court. b. The ball is hit into the net on the serve or any return. c. The ball is volleyed before a bounce has occurred on each side. d. The ball is hit out of bounds. e. A ball is volleyed from the non-volley zone. f. A ball bounces twice before being struck by the receiver. g. A player, player s clothing, or any part of a player s paddle touches the net or the net post when the ball is in play. h. A violation of a service rule has occurred. i. A ball in play strikes a player or anything the player is wearing. j. A ball in play strikes any permanent object before bouncing on the court. Section 2.09 ABSENCES a) If you are not able to play BEFORE schedule for the week has been posted, please notify the City of Plano Adult Sports Department.

b) If a player is missing at match time and the other players have not been notified, then the player that is late is subject to the No Show rule (Article III, Section 3.03). The player will not receive points for the match missed. Article III.
