Morehead State led 14-9 before the Raiders scored eight straight points, including threes from Kayla Lamotte and Kim Demmings. The Eagles again went in front on a pair of Terrice Robinson free throws and the margin was 22-19 on a pair of foul shots by Almesha Jones, but WSU closed the half with a 7-0 run, the final five by Demmings, to go up 26-22 at the break. Wright State shot 37 percent in the first half compared to 29 percent for MSU. The Raiders led throughout the second half, with their biggest cushion being 43-31 on a Demmings jumper with 6:43 left. Three straight three-pointers by Kelsey Funderburgh, however, drew the Eagles to within three and a Robinson three at the 3:27 mark made it 45-43. Two Demmings foul shots and a Brianna Innocent layup pushed the lead back up to six, only to see Robinson connect on another triple with 1:17 to go. WSU, however, sealed the win as Innocent hit two foul shots at the 10.7-second mark and Breanna Stucke had two with 0.7 seconds remaining. The shooting percentages were nearly identical as Wright State shot 32 percent and Morehead State 30 percent, but the Eagles were 10 of 26 from threepoint range compared to five of 23 for the Raiders. WSU, though, was 12 of 19 at the foul line while MSU was eight of 14. Demmings posted her second double-double of the season and seventh of her career as she scored 22 points and tied a career high as she collected 14 rebounds. Innocent had a near double-double of 11 points and nine boards off the bench while Ivory James had 10 points. 4 G 10 G 24 G 30 G 32 F Tippin Off (projected starters) Kim Demmings 5-8 So. Pts. Reb. Preseason Horizon League Poll The Wright State women s basketball team was picked third and Kim Demmings was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year as the Horizon League Preseason Polls were announced October 8 at the league s media day in Rosemont, Illinois. Voting was conducted by the nine head coaches in the league along with each school s sports information contact and a media member from each institution. The Raiders, under third-year head coach Mike Bradbury, posted its most wins in its 25-year Division I history in 2011-12 as the Raiders went 21-13 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Women s Basketball Invitational for the second consecutive year, defeating SIU Edwardsville on the road before falling at Seattle. For the second straight year, WSU set school records for three-pointers in a game with 15 against UIC on February 4 and Cleveland State on February 25 and also in a season with 248. Wright State also reached the 100-point mark in a game for the first time since moving up to Division I with the 100-73 win over CSU on February 25. Demmings tallied 20 or more points in 12 other games and reached double figures in rebounding four times. Demmings was also named to the league s All-Tournament Team as she scored 50 points, gathered in 16 rebounds and dished out nine assists while shooting 51 percent from the field in two games as the Raiders advanced to the semifinals. Joining Demmings on the Preseason First Team were Shareta Brown of Detroit, Shalonda Winton of Cleveland State, Adrian Ritchie of Green Bay and Youngstown State s Brandi Brown. The Preseason Second Team consists of Simone Law and Patrice King of Loyola, Lydia Bauer of Green Bay, Tabitha Gerardot of Valparaiso and Sami Tucker of Milwaukee. The other is the U.S. Naval Academy. Bombs Away Wright State tied the school record for threes in a game with 15 against Cleveland State on February 25, 2012, tying the mark set against UIC on February 2. Those two efforts eclipsed the previous record of 14 set on November 30 at Buffalo and the 13 accomplished two seasons ago against Valparaiso. In the 79 games that Mike Bradbury has been head coach at WSU, the Raiders have made 10 or more threes in a game 15 times: 15 Cleveland State (2/25/12) 11 Southeast Missouri (12/19/11) 15 UIC (2/2/12) 10 at Ball State (11/14/10) 14 at Buffalo (11/30/11) 10 at Ohio (12/9/10) 14 St. Francis (PA) (12/21/12) 10 at Longwood (12/11/10) 13 Valparaiso (1/8/11) 10 Central Michigan (12/20/11) 12 at Cincinnati (12/18/10) 10 Loyola (3/7/12) 12 at Butler (2/5/11) 10 at Seattle (3/18/12) 12 at Western Kentucky (11/22/11) Injury Update Both junior guard Courtney Boyd and sophomore forward Mylan Woods will miss the rest of the season following ACL tears.
