DEBORAH SCHOOL OF DANCE It s that time of year. Time for us to get to work! The recital is just around the corner, June 1 and 2 at Virginia State University. This newsletter will provide you with valuable information to get through the rest of the dance season. KEEP THIS NEWSLETTER. It is of utmost importance that students be in class every week, as it affects the student and the entire class. ~ IMPORTANT DATES ~ April 2-6... Spring Break, No Classes April 12... Early Bird Ticket Sales May 1... Final Tuition Payments Due May 7-11... Parents Week May 12... Recital Pictures May 28-June 2... Recital Week June 4... Summer Class Registration July 9... Summer Classes Start TUITION Final payments on tuition and fees are due by May 1. Your child will not receive costumes until all tuition and fees are paid in full. If you feel there is a mistake on your statement, please see Deborah or staff immediately. FUNDRAISER We will be doing a donut fundraiser. Donut orders are due by April 12, 2018. Order pickup is tentatively set for Monday, April 16. Order forms are attached to this newsletter. All funds raised will go towards the student s tuition and fees. JAZZ SHOES All jazz and baton classes require tan jazz shoes for the recital. The Thursday Hip Hop classes require black dance sneakers. The Tot Hip Hop March 14, 2018 will use pink dance sneakers. Both will be sized and ordered by Deborah. Remember all ballet shoes must be pink and all tap shoes must be tan for the recital. All ballet shoes must be actual leather or leather like ballet shoes and not ballet bedroom slippers. If your child needs any shoes for the recital, please fill out the attached form and return by April 13. If you do not submit your shoe order form by the deadline, shoe prices will go up to cover the expedited shipped needed to get them here on time. PARENTS WEEK & COSTUME PICKUP Parents Week and Costume Pickup will be May 7-11. During this week only, parents (max. 2 parents per family) will be invited to join the last 15 minutes of each class to watch your child perform and to pick up costumes. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions about the recital and costumes and will provide you with information on what goes where on costumes and when to wear what. Parent attendance for any child under the age of 10 is mandatory in order to receive costumes. If your child s costumes and tuition have not been paid for in full, he/she will not receive them. If a parent is unable to attend parents week, please arrange a time with Deborah to pick up your child s costumes. Please note that not all costumes come from the same company and there could be a chance that your child s costumes will not be in by Parents Week. If this occurs, you will receive costumes when they come in. RECITAL T-SHIRTS We will have recital t-shirts once again this year. You can check out a color version of this year s design on the bulletin board. All student names will be printed on the back. T-shirts must be preordered. They will be $18. Orders will be taken through April 13. Check out our recital bundle.

PICTURES In-costume dance pictures will be taken on May 12 at the dance studio. Please check the attached picture schedule for times. Group and individual pictures will be taken. Payment for pictures is due at picture time. Picture packages include: Package #1 1 8 x 10 2 5 x 7 8 wallets = $22.00 Package #2 2 5 x 7 8 wallets = $17.00 Group Picture Only 1 5 x 7 = $5.00 We will be taking a group pictures. Even if you are not taking individual pictures, please be there for the group. The group pictures will be used in the newspaper article. RECITAL IN GENERAL Recital week will be an extremely busy week for all of us, so please be patient. Make sure you and your child understand all the rules (included with this newsletter). Do not leave your child unattended at any practices this week. If you must leave, make sure you assign another adult to watch your child while you are not there. Deborah and staff will not be able to watch your child. During the week of May 28-June 2 there will be practices everyday. Expect to spend at least five nights of that week at practices. On Monday and Tuesday, there will be individual class rehearsals at the studio. On Wednesday, everyone is required to be at VSU; we will go through the entire show as it will run on show nights. Thursday is full dress rehearsal, and Friday and Saturday are the shows. See the attached recital week schedule for more details. Remember proper dance attire is required for all rehearsals. No pictures or videos may be taken the night of the show. You may take all the pictures and video you want during dress rehearsal or practices. There will be people watching during the show nights, if you are caught taking pictures or videos you will be warned to put your camera away. If caught a second time, you will be asked to leave. Each class will be assigned one or two group mothers. These mothers will assist your child on and off stage. They are the only parents allowed behind stage. Dressing areas will be assigned by age and number of routines. They will be posted on Dress Rehearsal night. RECITAL TICKETS Tickets for the recital will go on sale April 30. The price is $15. We will be having Early Bird Ticket Sales the week of April 30-May 4. This week only tickets will be $12 each. There are separate tickets for Friday and Saturday performances and seating is general admission. Anyone needing handicapped seating, please see Deborah to reserve your seats. Mothers will receive Mother s Passes. These passes must be worn or you will not be allowed in the auditorium without paying. There will be people at the door checking as you walk through. Only one Mother s Pass is given out per family. Mother s Passes will be given out during the week of recital. If there are any fathers that will be dressing kids, please see Deborah to arrange a separate dressing area and entry. The Thursday Dress Rehearsal is a closed rehearsal, thus the only people allowed to attend are dancers and those who hold Mother s Passes. If an additional family member would like to come to take videos or pictures on Thursday night, a Video Pass is required and can be obtained from Deborah or staff. Video Passes will be $5. Only one Video Pass is allowed per family. No one will be allowed in the auditorium on Thursday night unless he/she is a student, is wearing a Mother s Pass or Video Pass. We will have people watching the door. RECITAL PUBLICATIONS A list of student names will be posted on the bulletin board. Please check to make sure your child s name is spelled correctly. Names will be

published on the T-shirt as listed. Any changes need to be made by April 13. Once posted, check the recital line-up on the bulletin board to be sure that there is plenty of time for changes in-between numbers. If you find that numbers are too close, inform Deborah or staff ASAP. Please also check to be sure that your child s name is spelled correctly. If changes need to be made, please cross out the name and write in the correct spelling. Please write legibly. Your child s name will be published as it appears on the list unless changes are made. Note that the recital program is manually typed and typos do occur, check for accuracy under each of your child s performances, not just one of them. A NOTE FROM DEBORAH Thank you for your cooperation throughout the dance year. Without it, it would be impossible for us to present you, your family and friends with a great show. Your assistance is very much appreciated. Deborah SUMMER CLASSES We will have a 6-week summer session starting July 9. Registration for summer classes will be held June 4 from 5-8 p.m. Summer classes are a great way to test out a new class. We are working on workshops and camps for all ages during the summer. We will post more information when available. COMPETITION TEAM This summer we will start our competition team classes. If you are interested in participating, please contact Deborah or staff. More information on requirements will provided soon. BIRTHDAY PARTIES AND RENTALS We will be offering a series of birthday parties and studio rentals for people needing a large space for an upcoming event. Themed parties include Princess Parties, Super Hero Parties, Diva Parties and others. We will also offer general rentals. Space is limited and reservations must be done at least 30 days in advance.

Performance Rules For Deborah School of Dance Students No jewelry can be worn (small pose earrings only) No colored fingernail or toenail polish. No underwear can be worn under costumes. Dance tights are lined (Boys excluded) Make-up must be worn for dress rehearsal and both shows. Hair must be worn up, off the neck and face and away from child s face. Talk quietly during rehearsals and shows. No chewing gum during rehearsals or shows. No running up and down the hall, in dressing areas, or in the auditorium at any time. No Cell Phones Behind Stage No Talking Behind Stage Students are only allowed in the auditorium after all their performances are complete. If they only perform in the second Act, they are allowed in the auditorium during the first Act. NO pictures or videos can be taken the show nights!!! They can be taken during dress rehearsal and practice nights only, Monday-Thursday. Mothers must stay with their child at all times. Do not go into the auditorium in your costumes during the show nights! If you have your costume on, it must be entirely covered up by a coat, robe, etc. Please do not show off costumes before you go on stage! Please keep the dressing area clean at all times. Remember we are guest. No one is allowed in dressing area, except students and mothers. NO MEN, BOYS, GUEST/FRIENDS, ETC. No switching dressing areas. No one is allowed behind stage except stage workers and group mothers. Mothers must wear Mother s Passes or they will have to pay to go in the auditorium. Mothers may watch their child from designated seats only. ***THERE IS TO BE ABSOLUTELY NO EATING OR DRINKING IN THE AUDITORIUM*** SMILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
