PURE AIR FIRE FIGHTING 7 WHICH PRECONDITIONS HAVE TO BE MET? For certification as a BAUER PureAir station, you have to fulfil four preconditions: 1. You arrange for the correct installation of the compressor unit according to the operating instructions. Consequent observance of these regulations prevents, for example, the intake air being contaminated with carbon monoxide exhaust from a combustion engine. 2. You commit to using original BAUER filter cartridges. Only the manufacturing of these cartridges under industrial conditions enables a consistent standard of quality. 3. You monitor the air quality of your BAUER filling centre using an internal or downstream B-SECURUS filter monitoring system, thus preventing overrunning the service life of the cartridge. 4. You agree to the annual inspection of your filling centre acc. to DIN EN 12021 by an authorised BAUER PureAir partner. 5. Additional requirement for PureAir GOLD certification: Online measurement of CO, CO 2, O 2 and moisture with a BAUER B-DETECTION online gas measurement system.

PURE AIR FIRE FIGHTING 9 HOW DO YOU INSTALL YOUR COMPRESSOR UNIT CORRECTLY? The first step to BAUER PureAir certification of your fire brigade: 1. The floor must be even, dust-free and suited for the weight and vibration load imposed by the compressor. 2. The intake hose - maximum length 3 m, kink-proof and with sufficiently large section - has to be suspended high, dry and facing against the wind. 3. The cooling air flow of the fan and the wind must have the same direction. 4. Faultless air intake and exhaust air during compressor operation must be guaranteed. Re-aspiration of exhaust gas must be avoided under all circumstances. Particularly, proximity to roads with heavy traffic. 5. The ambient temperature must be between 5 C and 45 C. 6. We also recommend measuring your ambient air to exclude generally high CO or CO 2 levels.

12 PURE AIR FIRE FIGHTING WHAT DOES A BREATHING AIR PURIFICATION SYSTEM HAVE TO ACHIEVE? Compressors from BAUER rank among the safest breathing air compressors worldwide. They are equipped with proven purification systems which often clearly outperform the required safety limits of the standard DIN EN 12021*. Original BAUER filter cartridges are filled using only high-quality materials in the optimal mix, vacuum-packed and subsequently checked for leakage. The standard filter cartridge prevents water or oil from penetrating into breathing air during air compression. For compressors with combustion engines a special cartridge is offered, which prevents the risk of critical carbon monoxide content form apiration of exhaust gases. Filling centres applying for certification in compliance with the BAUER PureAir standard have to equip their breathing air compressor system with a BAUER B-SECURUS Filter Monitoring System. *CO removal only with BAUER special cartridge up to a maximum concentration of 15 ppm CO in the intake air. The compressed clean breathing air then contains no more than 5 ppm CO. The CO2 concentration in the intake air must not exceed the maximum allowable limit according to DIN EN 12021! Local OEL values are not considered.

14 PURE AIR FIRE FIGHTING HOW DOES B-SECURUS KEEP YOUR BREATHING AIR PURE? Even the slightest risk is too high. Therefore, each BAUER PureAir station must be equipped with B-SECURUS, the filter monitoring system from BAUER. B-SECURUS indicates in good time when the cartridge needs be changed and shuts down the unit automatically as soon as the cartridge is saturated. Unlike conventional systems, B-SECURUS measures the humidity content of the compressed air right from the cartridge. This excludes two of the main causes for polluted breathing air: use of self-filled filter cartridges and belated catridge replacement. As the unit only shuts down as soon as the filter is saturated, every cartridge can be completely used eliminating the need for premature replacement for safety reasons. Thus, B-SECURUS offers you not only safety, but also additional cost-effectiveness.

If you are operating a BAUER filling centre with B-SECURUS monitoring system, you can apply for BAUER PureAir certification. Only authorised BAUER partners with successfully completed PureAir training at the BAUER headquarters in Munich are granted this certificate. Inspection verifies the correct installation and the air quality of the compressor unit. The water content and the oil, oxygen, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide concentrations in the breathing air are measured acc. to DIN EN 12021. This European standard defines the purity of compressed air for breathing equipment. Correct observance of the maintenance intervals is also checked, and the result is registered in a test log. A positive result will lead to your filling station being certified. Your certification is valid for one year maximum. There-after, you will require further visits from quality controllers at regular intervals, and after 12 months at the lastest. When architect Emanuele Boaretto embarked on the quest to make his vision of the world s deepest thermal diving pool a reality, he brought to it the keen sense of perfectionism he had honed in his chosen profession.
