Terms f Use f the FIS Bus Transprt Service Frm the day we pened ur drs, the Francnian Internatinal Schl has prvided quality bus service fr the children in ur cmmunity. The lines currently run by ur bus cmpany serve the areas with a high density f FIS families, i.e. Herzgenaurach, Fürth, Nürnberg, Erlangen and their surrundings. It is the schl s bjective, t cntinue the bus service as a breakeven enterprise and t keep travel time fr students as lw as pssible (appr. max. 60 minutes). Applicatin fr Bus Transprt Service Students will be prvided with bus transprtatin nly after a bus registratin frm has been cmpleted, signed and returned t the FIS. Requests fr participatin in the transprtatin prgram are due by June 15, 2018 fr all families. Availability f a seat can nly be guaranteed as f Octber 1, 2018 if the applicatin is received after the due date. Mid-year entries are nly pssible n the fllwing dates: - n Octber 1, 2018 - n Nvember 5, 2018 (first day f schl after the Fall Break) - n January 7, 2019 (first day f schl after the Winter Break) - n April 29, 2019 (first day f schl after the Spring Break) The first fur weeks f transprt (until September 21, 2018) are deemed as prbatinary perid. Within this perid a free f charge terminatin is pssible. The time students spend n the bus may vary during the curse f a year. Students enrlled midyear can receive bus transprtatin nly n a space available basis. The FIS may nt be able t prvide bus service t new students enrlled in mid-year if they live a cnsiderable distance away frm already established lines. The FIS Schl Bus Transprt Service is nly ffered n a full ridership basis, meaning that all riders have paid t use the service n every schl day. Transprtatin n single days nly is nt pssible. Scheduling The bus cmpany schedules the actual lines in clse cperatin with the FIS befre the beginning f the new schl year, based n the number f bus applicatins we have received. Rutes and times may change during the curse f the schl year as determined by mid-year entries and/r ther rganizatinal needs. 1
Terms f Use f the FIS Bus Transprt Service Transprt ptins, bus stps and departure times Optin 1: FIS Bus Service (bth ways) All children making use f the FIS Bus service (bth ways) will be picked up clse t their hme address. Nrmally the meeting pint will be at a public bus stp r schl bus stp. If there is n public bus stp available, the FIS will define anther meeting pint. Parents will knw when t expect their children t be picked up and brught back and can be assured that the FIS will d everything pssible t ensure a safe trip t and frm schl. Optin 2: FIS Direct Line The FIS ffers ne direct line frm Herzgenaurach t the FIS. The direct line will nly stp at a few bus stps. These bus stps are nt necessarily near student s hmes. Students can bard r disembark the bus nly at this predetermined bus stps. Optin 3: One-Way Transprt Students have the pssibility t chse a ne-way transprt ptin bth n the FIS Bus as well as n the Direct Line. The ne-way ptin can be chsen either fr the mrning r the afternn and is valid fr all schl days thrughut the year. Additinal: Dr-t-Dr Optin Against surcharge students can chse the pick-up/drp-ff ptin at their place f residence, if they have signed up fr the Bth-Ways -ptin. A dr-t-dr ptin fr the One Way Transprt and the Direct Line is nt pssible. The FIS reserves the right t decline the Dr-t-Dr ptin fr lgistic and/r ecnmic reasns. General Infrmatin After having established the bus lines which ccurs usually by mid August, the schl will infrm each family via email f the time their child(ren) will be picked up frm the meeting pint in the mrning and drpped ff in the afternn. Children taking part in the after-schl activities prgram will nt be able t make use f the bus service n these afternns and will have t be picked up by a parent r a persn duly authrized by the parents. Times listed n individual schedules are apprximate and therefre, may vary slightly. The FIS asks all bus riders t be waiting at the assigned stp at least 5 minutes befre the scheduled time f departure. During the first few days f the new schl year, please bear with any time variatins until the bus services run smthly. Bus drivers are nt expected t and will nt wait fr riders wh are nt ready at the designated bus stp n time. 2
Terms f Use f the FIS Bus Transprt Service The buses leave the FIS right after schl and will generally run their rutes in reverse rder. Any deviatin frm the scheduled times and bus stps is nt pssible. Als any kind f private arrangements between parents and bus drivers are nt pssible. Dismissal time during nrmal schl days fr all students is 15:40. Buses leave the FIS at 15:50. Early dismissal time n Fridays is 14:00, buses leave the FIS at 14:10, with the exceptin f the High Schl. On half-days, dismissal time is 11:50, buses leave the FIS at 12:00. The bus transprt prvider in cperatin with the FIS administratin has the right t alter a rute t expedite the students trip. Parents take respnsibility fr their children, regardless f their age, until they have barded and after they have disembarked the FIS schl bus. Early Years/Elementary Schl children (EY 3-5, Grades 1 thrugh 5) will nt be allwed t disembark the bus unless an adult is present at the bus stp t accmpany them. Exceptins can nly be made after the parents have prvided a written waiver, sent by email t bus@the-fis.de, stating that they will assume full respnsibility after the child has disembarked the bus. The parents/legal guardians abslve the FIS and its subcntracted bus cmpanies f any liability, any claims fr damages etc. prvided that students and Early Years children were drpped ff after schl at the appinted lcatins but were nt met there by the parents/legal guardians. Parents must be punctual when meeting the bus. Time delays affect the entire bus rute and all ther passengers n the bus. If a parent fails t meet the bus, the student(s) will remain n the bus and the bus cntinue t cmplete its run. The bus driver will infrm the schl, which will make arrangements with the parents fr the child s safe return hme. Additinal csts resulting frm these arrangements must be brne by the parents. If yu have made emergency arrangements with a neighbr, friend r ther parent in case yu are delayed and have given authrizatin t this persn t pick up yur child(ren), please infrm the FIS ffice in writing t bus@the-fis.de. The bus cmpany/driver will be ntified accrdingly. Missing the bus The schl strives t ensure efficient bus service. Yet, it cannt be held respnsible when a bus runs late r des nt reach a given stp. Students are advised t wait at the bus stp 10 minutes past departure time, especially during bad weather cnditins, befre calling the bus cmpany. Shuld a student have missed the bus r decided t use public transprtatin, the schl des nt pay fr taxis r ther transprtatin used. It is the respnsibility f the student/parent t infrm the schl abut the late arrival. 3
Terms f Use f the FIS Bus Transprt Service Terminatin f the Bus Transprt Service In general, the bus cntract is legally binding fr the entire schl year. A midyear terminatin is nly pssible in writing until December 20, 2018, effective January 7, 2019. Only in case f terminatin by this date a refund f bus fees is pssible. Bus Znes and Crrespnding Fees The fllwing fees are preliminary. Until the exact number f students fr the respective ptin is determined, the final transprtatin csts fr the schl year cannt be calculated. Once fees are set, 5 applies and the fees are then set fr the entire schl year. FIS Bus Znes The FIS ffers the transprt service t families living farther than a 2 km radius frm the schl and within FIS bus znes. The FIS has gruped different cities and residences f FIS families int 7 znes. The znes were set up accrding t the shrtest distance between the FIS and the respective residential area. Families wh live utside FIS bus znes may bring their children t a predetermined meeting r pickup pint and take part in the FIS Bus Transprt Service frm that pint nward. In sme cases, if families live within the znes, the FIS reserves the right t refuse their participatin in the bus transprt. This culd happen if their place f residence is t far away frm ther participants and the respective transprt csts culd nt be cvered with the bus zne fee. A special agreement such as bringing children t a predetermined pickup pint has t be decided fr such cases. Terms f Use f the FIS Bus Transprt Service Cancellatin f Bus Service Frm the parents side In case f sickness r nt using the bus in the mrning parents have t infrm AND the bus driver by sending a text message t the respective bus driver the bus cmpany by sending a text message t the TRANSFAIR HOTLINE 0179/6846822 If yur child will nt be n the bus in the afternn, please infrm the FIS latest by 13:00 n nrmal schl days and n half-days by 10:00 in writing t bus@the-fis.de r call 09131/94039-1045. If yu call n shrt ntice, we cannt guarantee that yur requests made by telephne will be implemented. Requests fr transprtatin n ther bus lines fr particular days r fr private reasns will nt be cnsidered. Bus trips that parents have cancelled cannt be reimbursed. Frm the schl s side In the event f schl cancellatin due t adverse weather cnditins, decisins t halt the bus service will be made between the hurs f 06:30 and 07:00. The decisin t clse the schl will be made by the schl management and is based upn infrmatin gathered frm bus cmpanies, news and weather frecasts reg. rad cnditins. If the infrmatin suggests that the students cannt be transprted safely with the schl buses, bus service will be cancelled and the schl will remain clsed. Infrmatin cncerning schl cancellatin and delays can be btained in different ways: Calling the schl ffice 09131 94039-0 The latest infrmatin is always available under www.the-fis.de Please make sure in any case, that the schl has nt nly yur mbile, hme and wrk telephne numbers n file, but als the number f an emergency cntact during the day. We herewith remind all parents that they are respnsible fr deciding whether r nt t send their children t schl, particularly when cnditins are ptentially hazardus, n matter what the decisin f the schl may be. 6
Terms f Use f the FIS Bus Transprt Service Schl Bus Safety Rules All vehicles are equipped with seat belts. Replacement vehicles if needed may in individual cases nt be equipped with seat belts, but will perate in accrdance with the standards set in German traffic safety law. Please be aware that accrding t German law, restraint systems must be applied if present in a bus. In case f nn-cmpliance, a penalty applies, which wuld have t be paid by the parents. Yur child s safety is ur fremst cncern. Fr that reasn, rules cncerning safety n the bus have been established that must be respected. Please make sure that yu and yur child carefully read and stick t the fllwing rules. When using schl buses students will: Fasten seat belts Respect all the rules that apply t schl behavir Cmply with the bus driver s instructins Help keep the inside f the bus clean Keep all belngings in their backpack and respect the prperty f thers Be respectful f the driver and ther passengers at all times Be curteus and talk quietly, withut disturbing thers n the bus Nt eat r drink r chew gum n the bus Remain in their seats with seat belts fastened until the bus stps Bard and disembark the bus in an rderly and safe manner FIS students are expected t bserve the same exemplary standards f behavir n the buses as at schl. The Directr/Sectin Principals deal with bus disciplinary infractins. Serius r repeat ffenders culd lse their bus privileges. The FIS reserves the right t suspend students frm the bus service. Children s Seats Accrding t the German law, children under 12 have t use a special children s seat. Seats fr the weight categries 2 and 3 (15 t 36 kils) are prvided by the bus cmpany. Seats fr weight categries 0 and 1 have t be prvided by the parents r can be rented frm the schl. The rent per mnth is EUR 20,00 r EUR 200,00 fr the whle schl year. Terms f Use f the FIS Bus Transprt Service Emergency Prcedures In the event f a breakdwn, the bus driver will immediately infrm the bus cmpany, which will then infrm the FIS. Shuld the bus be in need f repair, the bus cmpany will prvide anther bus r supplementary taxis t assure that the children arrive at schl r hme safely. In the case f an accident, the driver will infrm the plice and the bus cmpany immediately. The cmpany will, in turn, infrm the FIS. If necessary, the plice will execute the required emergency precautins. The schl will ntify the parents. Bus passenger liability Parents are respnsible fr any damage t the bus that their children may cause. A bill fr the amunt f the damage and ther incidental expenses will be sent t the parents fr settlement, if necessary. What yu might want t knw abut FIS bus drivers The schl has established rules and guidelines fr ur bus drivers. Apart frm thse rules as stated belw, it is imprtant t knw that German law requires bus drivers t be certified. Please be aware f the fact, hwever, that bus drivers are nt directly emplyed by the FIS, but are emplyees f the bus cmpany subcntracted by the FIS. FIS expects ur drivers t knw the rute and drive safely enfrce discipline in a nn-threatening way nt smke, drink and eat n the bus r befre the children get n reprt miscnduct be equipped with a mbile phne s that their emplyer/fis/parents can get in tuch if need be nt prvide passengers with fd, drinks, r tbacc prducts stp nly at designated stps and nt allw r cause passengers t get ff the bus anywhere except their designated bus stp cntact the schl ffice immediately and transprt the student t the lcatin directed (either t the designated bus stp, t the dept r t FIS) if a student remains n a bus at the end f a run in cases f serius miscnduct (vandalism, assault, fighting, etc.) stp the vehicle n the side f the rad until rder is restred and cntact the bus cmpany and the schl maintain apprpriate decrum in all cmmunicatin with members f the FIS cmmunity present a valid plice recrd 8
