Northglenn Parks, Recreation, Cultural Services, & Senior Center summer recreation guide May-August 2011

DIRECTORY Dear Northglenn Residents, Welcome to summer! Time for playing in the park, enjoying the colorful flowers in full bloom, enjoying pool parties, outdoor concerts, fishing, and pedal boating on the lake. Before you know it, it will be time for the July 4th Family Festival and the Mother Son Campout. Then in the blink of an eye, it will be time for back-to-school shopping and raking fall leaves, so let s enjoy each moment of the warm, long, sunny days of summer! I have some exciting news to share with you. The City of Northglenn was recently awarded $500,000 from Adams County Open Space to help fund a new roof and HVAC system for the recreation center! With funds that were already allocated this year, agreement from Council to support funding the roof, and now this grant award, we should be able to begin work to replace the roof and the entire HVAC system and controls later this year. In addition, we are still working towards lifting the Order to Comply at the Recreation Center. Construction began in February and is on schedule to be completed prior to the July deadline. This work includes building a smoke partition wall upstairs near the Senior Center, adding a fire suppressive sprinkler system throughout the building, and enclosing the ceiling space in the theatre workshop. I am pleased to have this opportunity to thank all of you for your patience throughout this year as this important work has progressed. You have put up with moving classes (sometimes to entirely different buildings!), noise, and dust. We have done our very best to minimize the impact, but I know that it is because of your patience that this project has gone so smoothly. Use of the blocks and diving from sides is restricted. Water walking is prohibited during this time unless there is no lap swimmers in the lanes. This is for swimmers ages 10-80 who want to use lap swimming as a form of excercise. Swimmers must be actively swimming laps during this time. Use of the blocks and diving from sides is restricted. Water walking is prohibited during this time unless there is no lap swimmers in the lanes. Three or more swimmers: swim counter-clockwise in a single-file line, staying on the right side of the lane.

Swim Teams The City of Northglenn is proud to offer a wide variety of aquatic programs for all ages and abilities. Staff strives to offer new and exciting programs, and the 2011 line-up is no exception. In 2006, after careful review of our lesson program, it was apparent that after a swimmer had progressed through the Learn to Swim program, there was no progression to continue and advance their knowledge of swimming. The Northglenn Snappers CARA recreation swim team was developed to add a natural progression. Three years later in 2009, many of those recreational swimmers were ready to move to the next level into the competitive realm of swimming. To aid these swimmers in achieving this, the Northglenn Fusion USA Swim Club was developed. After a year of successfully running two teams with differing abilities and goals, a new group of swimmers has emerged. Those swimmers want more than a recreational team but some are not quite ready physically or mentally for the demand of the competitive club. We are proud to offer a new place for these swimmers to go. Our new developmental team will help close the gap between our CARA recreational team and our USA competitive program. All three of the teams require a tryout process for placement on the appropriate team. Please contact Steve Hanson at 303.450.8942 for more information and to schedule a tryout.
