Welcome New Members David and Betsy Williamson moved to Atlanta in 1982 from Virginia where both grew up and went to school - David attending Virginia Tech and Betsy attending Averett College. They raised two kids, Eric and Emily, in Gwinnett County. Both kids went to Parkview HS and graduated from UGA. So, the family is a big fan of the bulldogs. The Williamson s have 4 grand children. Five year old twins that live in Denver, and a 10 year and 3 year old who live in Peachtree Corners. David has been playing golf for a few years now, while Betsy is new to the game. David just retired from Georgia Tech and both he and Betsy are hoping to better their games by joining BHCC Dave Tarter Born and raised in Princeton, NJ before a short stint living in las Vegas, NV. Dave then made his way down to Athens, GA and graduated as a Bulldog in 2012. From there, he found himself in Atlanta, GA working for Westwood One. Aside from playing golf, Dave loves watching the Dawgs and Philadelphia Eagles. Andrew Long Hello, I grew up in Gwinnett and went to Parkview High School. Superintendent News December 2017 Usually every January is when we begin to monitor the weather to decide when it is time to cover greens. Over the past 12 years, we have learned a lot about when to cover. At the beginning we used to cover each day it was going to be cold, but now that they have aged, I feel they can handle the weather much better than expected. We will always let them get frosted up first. This helps in the hardening off effect. We now look at daytime temperatures, besides only looking at nighttime temperatures. For example, if the daytime temperatures are sunny and hi of 55 or more and that night may get down to 26, we more than likely will not cover, but if the daytime temperature mid 40 s or lower and that night is 28, we will cover. What I am trying to judge is the length of frozen time on the grass. Once we get our first frost, I begin to leave messages on the Course Conditions Hotline, which is 770-448-2008 ext. 3333. On that message I will say if there is a delay and if we will be covering greens that afternoon. If the day comes for us to cover greens, we begin no later than 4:00 on #1 and #10. If the Proshop feels that not many people will be out to play due to the weather, they will allow us to cover earlier. The longer the grass is under the sun with the covers on it, the better chance of survival thru the winter becomes. If you have any questions, please ask. Chris Purvis New Events for 2018! We are very pleased and excited to announce that for the 2018 season we will have a Two Man Net and Gross Match Play tournament that will run year long. Registration deadline will be April 1st and matches will begin in April. These team matches will be just like the individual match play events, you and your partner will have one month to complete each match against your opponents. The Net Match Play will be cut off at 32 teams and the Gross Match Play will be cut off at 16 teams, so make sure you grab your favorite playing partner and sign up in the Golf Shop! The 2018 Tournament Schedule as of January 1st is attached for your review Annual Pull Carts and Electric Carts At the beginning of the year we will start billing those that would like to be on the Annual Pull Cart plan. The cost is $250 for the full year and allows you to take one of our pull carts each time you play golf at no extra fee. For those that keep their electric pull cart in the cart barn we will also bill your account at the start of the new year. A reminder that this storage fee is $400 for the full year. If you do not plan on keeping your electric cart with us please notify the golf shop as soon as possible as we have a waiting list for the next available spot. Effective January 1, the following fees will increase by the amount indicated. 18 hole cart fees $2 9 hole cart fees $1 Annual electric pull cart fees $25 Annual pull cart fees $25 18 hole pull cart fees $1 9 hole pull cart fees $1 WGA News LADIES GOLF OPEN HOUSE All ladies of Berkeley Hills are invited to mark your calendars for an open house on the evening of Thursday, February 22. Drop by and learn more about golf opportunities at the club. There will be representatives from the pro shop with information on clinics and lessons as well as the WGA (Women s Golf Association). Two casual nine hole groups are planned for spring and you can find out more about those or connect with other women who would like to form groups. Regardless of your skill level, this is your chance to get more information and get involved. Take advantage of our beautiful golf course and make 2018 your year to make new friends at Berkeley Hills and have some fun. Details later on exact time and location!!!
