Samsung Amman International Marathon 2012 The Amman International Marathon (AIM) is a new non-profit initiative that has been launched in Jordan in October 2009. Its vision is to initiate an annual international sporting tradition in the heart of Amman akin to other international marathons in the cities of the Middle East and the world. The marathon s 4th edition will be held this year on Friday the 19th of October 2012. The marathon s goal is to create a new generation of roadrunners and wheelchair racers in Jordan, giving amateurs the opportunity to improve, and professionals the chance to compete. Several training programs will also be offered to encourage healthy living. Race Routes The 42.195 KM Route, starting time is 6:00 AM. - The 42 KM race begins at Al Nourain Mosque (The Mosque at the ). Runners will head toward King Talal, passing by i Mosque on the way to Al-Hashimi. - The runners will then turn around toward the Roman, to Quraish, and in the direction of Ali Bin Abi Taleb. They then will turn around again after the toward Omar Mattar, where they will pass by the main gate of the. - They will then run in the direction of King Talal again, then toward Al-Hashimi arriving at Al Jaish in the direction of the New Bus. - The runners will make a U-turn from the middle roundabout of Al Jaish, passing by the Roman. They go round this path four times, back and forth. - After the fourth time, the runners will arrive at the finish line in front of the. The 10 KM Route, starting time is 8:30 AM. - The gathering point for the 10 KM race is Al Dakhiliyah Circle on Queen Alia. - The runners will head toward the Royal Cultural Center, then toward the 4th Circle through Queen Noor. - Then to the 3rd Circle through Zahran toward Al Burj Building on Prince Mohammad. - The runners will pass by Samir Al-Rifai School, heading toward King Faisal Plaza from Al Rida to Al-Hashimi. - Finally, they will run toward The Palaces Bridge (Jisr al Qusour) and run against the traffic direction, heading toward the Hashimi Square through Al Jaish in the direction of the finish line ( ). 4.2 Kids Run Route. - The 4.2 KM race begins at Omar Mattar, opposite to Al Nourain Mosque (same as the 42.195 KM route). Runners will head toward King Talal, passing by i Mosque on the way to Al-Hashimi. They will then run toward Al Jaish in the direction of Al-Dukhan Bridge. After that, they will head toward Al Jaish again (the opposite direction), arriving at the finish line in front of the Roman.

Marathon Program: Marathon Village from Sunday October 14th to Thursday October 18th from 12 PM till 9 PM for registration and bib number pickups. Carbo-load dinner a night before the marathon day. Award ceremony on the same day after the Marathon October 19th. What s Happening? Race Categories Race 42.195 KM 10 KM Fun Run Kids Run Time 6:00 AM 8:30 AM The main gathering point for all runners will be at (Gate number 3). Parking will be available at (The designated area will be clearly marked). Buses will be available to shuttle the 42.195 KM and 4.2 KM marathon runners to the starting point. The 10 KM Fun Run participants will walk to the starting point from the gathering point. Buses will be available at the celebration area for all participants to be shuttled back to the gathering point. Kids entertainment programs will be available at the finish line. Gathering Special group prices are available for schools, universities, companies, and associations. Registration fee includes: race entry, a timing chip, a race bib, an official race bag, and a T-shirt. All participants must place the bib number on the front of their T-shirts and fix the timing chip on their shoes. Participants must follow entrance instructions in order to become official runners. Timing chip should be returned at the finish line. Once the registration form is duly processed, there will be no fee refund for those participants who eventually do not take part in the event. The organizers reserve the right to cancel or postpone the race without any prior notification. Packet Pick-Up Every runner must collect his/her Running Packet between October 14th and October 18th, from 12:00 noon till 09:00 pm, at the Marathon Village located at the King Hussein Park. Please make sure to bring your identification receipt received during registration in order to get your packet. Finish Line and Celebration Area All participants will receive a finisher medal at the finish line. Entertainment programs (for adults and kids) and refreshments will be available at the celebration area. What to do when you come to Amman: Jordan has a wealth of historic and tourist sites and venues that you can enjoy when not running in the marathon. These sites include: The Dead Sea, which is the lowest point on earth where floating and swimming is a must-do. It was a finalist in the Natural Wonders of the World. There are a number of top class resorts for those who wish to stay overnight. The Baptism site with the small church of John the Baptist, which is only about 8 KM away from the Dead Sea. To the north is the city of Jarash, which is the world's best-preserved Roman town outside Italy. There are regular shows held in a stadium with chariot racing and gladiator fights. To the south is the ancient city of Petra recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Petra's buildings are carved out of the rose-red rock. Aqaba is Jordan's southern tourist resort on the Red Sea and the launch point for scuba diving and snorkeling. It's around a 4-hour drive from Amman. Sponsored by:
