September, 2011 Volume 3, Issue 9 HELLFIRE 2011: Best Competition Yet at Jackson Hole!! Blackfish Kid takes Overall Cowboy Title Dew R. Dye defends Overall Cowgirl Title Once Again! (Now 3 for 3) Quitman, LA The Jackson Hole Regulators hosted their 3 rd annual Hellfire match at Slick McClade s Louisiana Shooters Supply range just south of Quitman, Louisiana. Not only were there more entries this year than ever before, but the level of competition was the highest as well. Take the time to check out the scores at http://jhregulators.homestead.com and you will see lots of the same names that show up at the big regional and national matches! Also impressive was the number of first time visitors to our range. They made for a great mix with all of our locals and regulars. The weather broke just in time for everyone to be comfortable as they shot. The addition of the extra shaded walkways made a big difference over last year as well. Of course, being Jackson Hole, there were plenty of tents and ice cold water bottles on hand just in case! The side matches on Friday were well attended. Anyone entered in the main match got to try for side match glory as much as they wanted at no extra charge. Hellfire matches always take your best overall time rather than just your first time, so folks are free to try again and again. That makes for lots of shooting and lots of fun! The long distance range once again hosted the bigbore and pistol caliber rifle competitions and this year had a new addition: a Bob Munden match. Them cards shore are skinny, ain t they? Side match awards this year were provided by our buddy Silver Wolf. He made some sweet screw- knives with Hellfire engraved on them. Now if I can only convince them to have a Tallest Shooter side match next year, I ll have a shot at one! Another addition to the festivities this year was a Wild Bunch Match. Seems like everywhere you go, folks are into those 1911 s. Bama Belle took first in the ladies match with Phoenix Rose placing second. Dew R. Dye was the modern category champ (get ready to read her name a lot in this issue, btw). On the men s side, Crosscut Hardy, Calhoun Kid, and Texas Gator finished 1-2-3 in the traditional category. Meanwhile, first place in modern went to Blackfish Kid with Bootstrap Silver Wolf timing Phoenix Rose. Holy Smoke!!
Richard second and Stormy Reinz coming in third. Once again I shot the match through on Saturday. (Duty calls on Sundays). So that means I got to shoot with every single posse. Even though I started breaking down at the end (that s where all my misses are) it was worth it. I m a lucky man, because I got to experience the friendship and camaraderie of every single entrant. It s a good thing that no one came to the banquet armed on Saturday night. The food was delicious and I saw some fights start to break out over those desserts! Man! Remembering those sweet treats is making my mouth water right now while I write this! Congrats to Blackfish Kid your 2011 Men s overall champion. Runner-up was sure a scramble. Colt Faro just did beat out Nail Driver and T-Bone. It took rank points to sort out that finish. On the ladies side, Dew R. Dye took home the big, fancy buckle that says Ladies Overall Champion on it. She s gonna have to build a new shelf to display all that hardware as this is her third title in a row here! Also congrats to Bama Belle for a strong second place finish. Speaking of buckles, hats off to Slick for again providing some of the coolest match and category awards around. They look great! Let s not forget all those Jackson Hole Regulator members who work so hard on the range and at the match. If I tried to name all of you, I d leave someone out and feel bad about it all year, so I ll just say a big THANKS. Y all know who you are. All in all, it was again a great match and I can t wait till next year! --- Hightower Side Match Winners: Long Range Results and some Side Match Results were not available at Press Time. RSW (right) and cousin Little Rebel at the banquet Saturday night. Remind you of anybody? An Interview With: RATTLESNAKE WRANGLER Wanna see the future? Look to the left over there. Plan on seeing an awful lot of 12-year old Rattlesnake Wrangler. If you want to know where to find him, it ll most likely be at the top of the standings cause that s where you will find him right now. Although he was mighty disappointed with his 16 th place overall finish at Hellfire 2011 out of 130 total ( My guns were junk! ) he did bounce back the very next week to take top overall cowboy at his home annual match Defend Old Fort Parker. There were 150 good shooters there, by the way. He s also scored a 6 th place overall finish at the U.S. Open this year, a Buckaroo National Title from Winter Range, and a Runner-up finish in Buckaroo at End Of Trail! RSW and his dad, Colt Faro, have been shooting together for about 7 years now. He claims to practice for six hours a day, but his dad/coach says it s more like three. Still that s a lot. The pair shoots about 20 main matches a year in addition to their monthly matches with the Fort Parker Patriots over in Groesbeck, TX. While he was being interviewed, his hands were in constant motion practicing his transitions and shadow shooting. It s obvious that his dedication to CAS is paying off. Looks like cowboyin might be in the genes with this family. They tell me that they are 3 rd /4 th cousins to none other than Gene Autry and that Wrangler s great-great-great-great grandfather died at the Alamo. Gotta love a passion for genealogy! When asked what he likes to do with his time, the Buckaroo champ said, Hanging out with friends and impressing people. Well, with all his new friends at Jackson Hole being duly impressed, I d say, Mission Accomplished! I asked him what he would like to say to all our subscribers, and he said, Thanks for readin and I ll see you next year! -HT
