ABOUT THE ACTIVITY AREA POLICY MANUAL: The Activity Area Policy Manual is designed to provide the policies and rules for the use of the various activity spaces throughout the Health Enhancement Center. I. Strength Center 1. A valid Strength Center membership is required prior to entering the facility. Memberships are not valid until the proper waiver forms are signed or checked on the email notification. 2. Proper University issued IDs or Day Pass with Photo ID is required to enter the facility. 3. Before using the fitness equipment, patrons must read all warning labels, follow the instructions on the equipment, and/or obtain instructions on how to use the equipment. 4. Patrons must keep body parts and clothing free of all moving parts of the fitness equipment. 5. Patrons must inspect the fitness equipment before use, and patrons are not to use a machine if it appears damaged. 6. Patrons are not to attempt to fix a broken or jammed machine. 7. Patrons should inspect the cables and their connections before using a fitness machine. Patrons are not to use a machine if the cables are frayed or broken. 8. The use of weight collars on weight bars is mandatory. 9. Spotters are mandatory for all free weight lifting. 10. Patrons using the equipment must be at least 14 years old; children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 11. Food, gum, alcohol and tobacco products are not allowed in the Strength Center. 12. Only drinks with tight-fitting lids are permitted in the Strength Center. 13. Proper athletic footwear is required. Open-toed footwear (such as sandals or flip-flops ) is prohibited. Street shoes should not be worn on the equipment. 14. Appropriate work-out attire is required. Jeans and jean shorts are prohibited. Clothing with rivets or zippers may tear upholstery. Only unmodified shirts, sweatshirts and tank tops are allowed. Exposed sports bras are prohibited. 15. Equipment is to be used for designated purposes only. 16. Patrons who misuse the equipment will be asked to leave the facility. 17. Patrons under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave the facility. 18. All injuries, damaged equipment, maintenance issues, theft, abuse, etc. should be reported to the Strength Center Membership Services Attendant. 19. Patrons must wipe down equipment and benches after each use. Hand towels and spray bottles are located throughout the facilities for this purpose. These towels should not be removed from the area. 20. Dumbbells and weights must be re-racked after use. 21. Banging or dropping of weights is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, barbells, dumbbells and free-weight. ~ 3 ~

22. Yelling or use of profanity is prohibited. 23. Equipment should be shared, if needed, between sets. 24. Varsity athletic teams have priority over equipment from 3-6 pm. II. Multi-Activity Center (MAC) 1. Proper University issued IDs or Day Pass with Photo ID is required to enter the facility. 2. Children under 18 years old must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. 3. Cycles, skateboards, rollerblades, and skates are prohibited. 4. All users must wear element spikes or flats when on the track. 5. Users must wear non-marking shoes on the track and courts. Street shoes are not permitted. 6. Chalk or painter s tape (2090 or 2080) are allowed on the MAC floor surface. No other marking tools should be used. 7. Food, gum, candy, tobacco products and beverages (except water) are prohibited. 8. Spitting on the track or courts is not permitted. 9. The sand pits, jump pads, hurdles, portable cages, batting cages, etc. are for use by varsity athletics events and practices only. Special permission may be given on a case by case basis when reserving space in the facility. 10. The rope hanging from the west end away from the climbing wall is not for general recreation use. It is only to be used when supervised by a varsity track coach. 11. Unless specifically reserved (i.e. indoor tennis), use of the courts is based on a first come, first serve basis. 12. Dunking and hanging on basketball rims is prohibited. 13. For safety reasons during open recreation, the nets must be lowered around the courts when an activity is taking place on the courts that has potential for an object to travel to the track. Such activities include: a. Soccer b. Baseball c. Softball d. Volleyball e. Tennis f. Football g. Lacrosse h. Cricket i. Ultimate Frisbee 14. Use of the track may be restricted during intramurals, dependent on activity. 15. Some activities may be restricted if the MAC attendant deems them unsafe to continue based on the number of patrons using the facility and available space. (i.e. baseball tossing may be restricted if all four courts are in heavy use by others). ~ 4 ~

16. The MAC office has the following items available for check out (ID required). These items must remain inside the MAC: a. Basketballs b. Volleyballs c. Soccer balls d. Tennis rackets and balls 17. Nets for soccer, volleyball, and tennis are available at the patron s request and will be allowed as long as there is a space available for play. 18. Courts 3 and 4 may be reserved for indoor tennis Monday through Friday from 11am to 1pm from November 1 st through March 31 st (unless the MAC is reserved for another event such as College Days for Kids or a track meet). a. Indoor Tennis Policy i. Reservations may be made at the MAC office or by calling the MAC office. ii. Reservations are accepted up to 7 days in advance. iii. Reservations may not exceed one hour in duration. iv. Reservations are forfeited if participants are 15 minutes late for their reserved time and date. v. The person who signed up for the court must be present for the reservation to be valid. 19. Patrons are encouraged to leave personal items locked in locker rooms. If brought to the MAC they must be left at the benches at the east wall. 20. Access to the athletic, Physical Education and Military Science storage areas are restricted to these units. Open Recreation patrons must request access to the east mixed storage area from the MAC Membership Service Attendant (MSA). Taking items without contacting the MSA is prohibited. 21. Inappropriate behavior (fighting, pushing, etc.) and offensive or abusive language is prohibited. 22. Maximum Capacity of the Multi-Activity Center is 4,500 people. III. MAC Climbing Wall 1. Proper University issued IDs or Day Pass with Photo ID is required to enter the facility. 2. All climbers must sign a waiver at the climbing wall prior to their first climb. Participants under 18 years old require a parent or guardian signature. 3. Children under 18 years old must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. 4. Climbers must be able to pass the top rope certification prior to belaying. 5. Climbers must prove lead climbing competency before climbing on lead or belaying a lead climber. 6. Approved harnesses, belaying devices and locking carbineers are required*. Hip belays, munter hitches, etc. are prohibited. *The Climbing Wall can provide this equipment for patrons. 7. Only UWSP climbing ropes and quick draws are permitted when climbing. No personal ropes or quick draws are allowed. ~ 5 ~

8. Please allow right of way to other climbers or boulders that were first on route on any given sections of the wall. BOULDERING 1. Bouldering above the second line of quick draws is prohibited. 2. Climber s bouldering higher than the first set of quick draws requires a spotter and use of one of the larger crash pads. 3. Climbing wall staff may require boulders to have a spotter at any height. 4. Unsafe bouldering will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the facility. 5. Climbing wall ropes will be tied up and the wall curtained off when climbing wall personnel are not present. IV. Aquatics Center Large and Therapy Pool Entry Rules: 1. A lifeguard or designated supervisor who has been approved by the Aquatics Director must be on deck before anyone enters the pool. 2. Proper University issued IDs or Day Pass with Photo ID is required to enter the facility. 3. A cleansing shower is required before entering the pool and after use of toilet facilities (WI Department of Health Services 172.29). 4. No street shoes allowed on deck during open recreation. 5. Users must wear a clean bathing suit to enter the pool (no cut-offs, gym shorts, etc.). 6. Children 12 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult; children 5 years old or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water; lifeguards have the authority to require a parent or guardian to be in the water with a child over 5 years old who they may judge to be a weak swimmer. 7. Children in diapers are not allowed in the pool unless they wear rubber pants or swim diapers. 8. Glass or shatterable items are prohibited on the pool deck, shower and locker room areas. 9. Patrons are encouraged to leave personal items in the locker rooms. If brought to the pool deck, they must be left in the bleachers. 10. Food, gum, candy, tobacco products and beverages (except water) are prohibited. 11. No person may swim with a contagious illness or condition. 12. Individuals under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not permitted in the pool area. 13. Swimming caps are not required, but long hair should be bound. Large Pool General Rules: 1. No running on the pool deck. ~ 6 ~

2. No splashing, pushing or roughhousing in the pool or on the pool deck. Patrons engaging in these activities will be warned by the lifeguard and may be asked to leave the pool. 3. No diving in the shallow end. Diving is only permitted in the diving well. 4. Starting blocks are not to be used by open recreation participants. UWSP varsity swimmers swimming under a coach s instruction during open recreation may utilize the blocks. 5. Goggles and life vests cannot be worn on the diving board. 6. Only one person is allowed on the diving board at a time. 7. No swimming in the diving area while participants are actively using the diving boards. 8. No running off diving boards. We strongly encourage standing and one jump dives. 9. The 3 meter diving board may not be used during open recreation, with the exception of varsity divers. 10. Back flips off the diving boards are prohibited. 11. Floatation devices may only be used during swim lessons or other aquatics programing unless the patron has a disability that requires it. 12. No Band-Aids or hairpins allowed in the swimming pool. Lifeguards may provide Band-Aids when needed, but the patron cannot reenter the pool until the bleeding has stopped. 13. Hanging on or swimming over lane lines is prohibited. 14. No sitting on someone s shoulders (even children on adult shoulders). 15. No spitting or spouting water out of the mouth. 16. The maximum capacity of the large pool is 336 people. Therapy Pool General Rules 1. The therapy pool is considered an educational classroom. Access is restricted to the academic classes, Special Needs Aquatic Programs, UWSP swim lessons and other adaptive swim programs. 2. A lifeguard must be present before participants enter the pool. 3. Running is prohibited in the therapy pool. 4. No diving is allowed in the therapy pool. Jumping into the water is only allowed if program instructors ok the activity. 5. Food, gum, candy, tobacco products and beverages (except water) are prohibited. Water must be in a plastic container (no glass). 6. No animals, bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, etc. allowed in the therapy pool. 7. Participants and adults must sit on the benches until program instructors say it is ok to enter the pool. 8. Maximum capacity of the therapy pool is 15 people. V. Quandt Gym 1. Proper University issued IDs or Day Pass with Photo ID is required to enter the facility during open recreation. ~ 7 ~

2. Quandt is not available for drop in open recreation outside of designated times- reservations are required for use of the space outside of open recreation. 3. Children under 18 years old must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. 4. Cycles, skateboards, rollerblades, and skates are prohibited. 5. Proper footwear (non-marking tennis shoes) is required. Street shoes, high heeled or hard soled shoes are prohibited. 6. No adhesive tape or other marking materials are allowed on the floors or walls unless specified. Blue painters tape #2090 may be used on the walls and blue painters tape #2080 may be used on the floor. 7. Gum and tobacco products are not allowed. 8. Only drinks with tight-fitting lids are permitted. 9. Alcohol and food are prohibited unless arrangements have been made with the HEC Facility Director to have Academic Custodial clean the room after an event. 10. Bleachers cannot be climbed or sat upon when closed doing so will eventually break the bleacher support structure. 11. Dunking and hanging on basketball rims is prohibited during open recreation or Intramural/University Recreation Sports play. 12. The main basketball hoops are reserved for varsity activities only. 13. Throwing baseballs, softballs and Frisbees prohibited. 14. Maximum capacity of Quandt Gym is 4,111 People. VI. Berg Gym 1. Proper University issued IDs or Day Pass with Photo ID is required to enter the facility during open recreation. 2. Berg Gym is not available for drop in open recreation outside of designated times- reservations are required for use of the space outside of open recreation. 3. Children under 18 years old must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. 4. Cycles, skateboards, rollerblades, and skates are prohibited. 5. Proper footwear (non-marking tennis shoes) is required. Street shoes, high heeled or hard soled shoes are prohibited. 6. No adhesive tape or other marking materials are allowed on the floors or walls unless specified. Blue painter s tape #2090 may be used on the walls and blue painters tape #2080 may be used on the floor. 7. Gum and tobacco products are not allowed. 8. Only drinks with tight-fitting lids are permitted. 9. Alcohol and food are prohibited unless arrangements have been made with the HEC Facility Director to have Academic Custodial clean the room after an event. 10. HEC 110 (Multi-Purpose Room) 1. Proper footwear (non-marking tennis shoes, socks, ballet shoes, etc.) is required. Street shoes and any shoes that mark the floor are prohibited. 2. High heeled and hard soled shoes (i.e. tap shoes) are prohibited. 3. No dropping items or striking the floor with items that could cause damage (i.e. weights, sticks, batons, etc.). 4. No adhesive tape or other marking materials are allowed on the floors or walls unless specified. Blue painter s tape #2090 may be used on the walls and blue painters tape #2080 may be used on the floor. 5. Gum and tobacco products are not allowed in the HEC 110. 6. Only drinks with tight-fitting lids are permitted in HEC 110. 7. Alcohol and food are prohibited unless arrangements have been made with the HEC Facility Director to have Academic Custodial clean the room after an event. 8. Equipment brought from the Strength Center or MAC to HEC 110 and 154 must be returned at the conclusion of an individual s workout. 9. Ball games are permitted in HEC 110 but precautions need to be made to protect the mirrors on the wall (i.e. playing soccer north-south). 10. Maximum capacity of HEC 110 is 50 people. VIII. HEC 154 (Multi-Purpose Room) 1. Proper footwear (non-marking tennis shoes, socks, ballet shoes, etc.) is required. Street shoes and any shoes that mark the floor are prohibited. 2. High heeled and hard soled shoes (i.e. tap shoes) are prohibited. 3. No dropping items or striking the floor with items that could cause damage (i.e. weights, sticks, batons, etc.). 4. No adhesive tape or other marking materials are allowed on the floors or walls unless specified. Blue painter s tape #2090 may be used on the walls and blue painters tape #2080 may be used on the floor. 5. Gum and tobacco products are not allowed in the HEC 154. 6. Only drinks with tight-fitting lids are permitted in HEC 154. 7. Alcohol and food are prohibited unless arrangements have been made with the HEC Facility Director to have Academic Custodial clean the room after an event. 8. Equipment brought from the Strength Center or MAC to HEC 110 and 154 must be returned at the conclusion of an individual s workout. 9. Ball games, Frisbee, etc. are not permitted in HEC 154. 10. Maximum capacity of HEC 154 is 40 people. ~ 9 ~

IX. HEC 105 (Conference Room) 1. This conference room is not for drop in use. The room is for meeting purposes only and must be scheduled prior to use. 2. No physical activity is allowed in the space. 3. These rooms must be scheduled prior to use. The rooms may be scheduled via the virtual EMS system or by contacting the HEC Facilities Director. 4. HEC 105 will remain locked while not in use to protect the technology in the room. 5. Tables in HEC 105 should not be stacked when storing them as it may damage the legs and casters. The breaks must be removed from the casters prior to moving them. 6. HEC 105 has a large flat screen television and computer in it. Cables allowing laptops or ipads to connect to the television are also available. 7. Food and beverages are permitted in HEC 105. Academic Custodial regularly cleans the space. 8. The maximum number of occupants in HEC 105 is 20. X. Suomi Aquatics Classroom (HEC 060) 1. The Suomi Aquatics Classroom is not for open recreation use. The room s general use is for health and aquatics classes as well as meetings with teams and officials during swim meets. 2. The room must be scheduled prior to use. The room may be scheduled via the virtual EMS system or by contacting the HEC Facilities Director. 3. Limited physical activities may occur in this room if necessary (i.e. stretching, lunges, etc.). Approval of activities is required by the HEC Facilities Director. 4. The classroom door must remain locked at all times it is not scheduled to protect the technology in the area. 5. The classroom has a large flat screen television and laptop. 6. The classroom has twenty chairs with tablet arms. 7. Food and drinks are allowed in the room as long as the HEC Facilities Director is notified when scheduling. Academic custodial is responsible for regular cleaning of the space. XI. Classrooms 101, 116, 119, 146 1. These classrooms are not for drop in use. The rooms are primarily utilized for academic classes. 2. These rooms may be reserved by athletics, student organizations, etc. for meetings or receptions. 3. These rooms must be scheduled prior to use. The rooms may be scheduled via the virtual EMS system or by contacting the HEC Facilities Director. 4. Food and beverages are permitted in HEC 105. Academic Custodial regularly cleans the spaces. The HEC Facility Director should be notified so custodial can be arranged to clean prior to the next academic classes. 5. No physical activity is allowed in these spaces. ~ 10 ~

6. These spaces will remain unlocked when not scheduled. 7. Each classroom is equipped with a computer, projector, desks and chairs. 8. The capacity of each room should not be exceeded. They capacities are as follows: a. HEC 101: 24 b. HEC 116: 24 c. HEC 119: 30 d. HEC 146: 50 XII. HEC 147 Athletic Training Lab 1. HEC 147 is an Athletic Training lab and unavailable for reservations by groups outside of the Athletic Training Department. 2. The nature of Athletic Training classes may require some light physical activity in this space. 3. Although access is limited, this space should be reserved when class is scheduled in the space. 4. This classroom will be locked when not in use. 5. Food and beverages (except water) are not permitted in HEC 147. 6. The maximum capacity of HEC 147 is 20 people. XIII. Racquetball Court 1. Racquet equipment may be checked out in the Strength Center. 2. Racquet courts may be reserved at the strength center by UWSP students, faculty and staff one week in advance and for a maximum of one hour at a time. 3. Proper footwear (non-marking tennis shoes, socks, ballet shoes, etc.) is required. Street shoes and any shoes that mark the floor are prohibited. 4. High heeled and hard soled shoes (i.e. tap shoes) are prohibited. 5. No adhesive tape or other marking materials are allowed on the floors or walls unless specified. Blue painter s tape #2090 may be used on the walls and blue painters tape #2080 may be used on the floor. 6. Gum and tobacco products are not allowed in the racquetball court. 7. Only drinks with tight-fitting lids are permitted in the racquetball court. 8. Food is prohibited unless arrangements have been made with the HEC Facility Director to clean the room after. 9. The racquetball court is occasionally reserved by Academics and Athletics for events that require a spill over location to accommodate large crowds. Requests should be made two weeks in advance to avoid conflicts with individual reservation times. XIV. Wrestling Room 1. Only authorized users are allowed to utilize the HEC Wrestling Room. The Wrestling Room is not available for drop in use. The facility must be scheduled through EMS. 2. The Wrestling Room must remain locked when not in use. ~ 11 ~

3. Wrestling mats must remain in the Wrestling Room, and should only be removed if needed for varsity wrestling matches. 4. Food, gum, candy, tobacco products, alcohol, drugs and beverages (except water) are prohibited. 5. Proper footwear (non-marking tennis shoes, socks, ballet shoes, etc.) is required. Street shoes and any shoes that mark the floor are prohibited. 6. High heeled and hard soled shoes (i.e. tap shoes) are prohibited. 7. Academic custodial cleans the mats once a day Monday through Friday. XV. DeBot Tennis Courts 1. Open Recreational use is first come, first served when not reserved by a group. 2. Reservations for class, athletics, IMs, camps, etc. should be directed to the HEC Facilities Director. 3. Private tennis lessons are not permitted without approval by the HEC Facilities Director. 4. Bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, motorized vehicles, etc. are prohibited. XVI. Allen Center Tennis Courts 1. Open Recreational use is first come, first served when not reserved by a group. 2. Reservations for class, athletics, IMs, camps, etc. should be directed to the HEC Facilities Director. 3. Private tennis lessons are not permitted without approval by the HEC Facilities Director. 4. Bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, motorized vehicles, etc. are prohibited. XVII. Sand Volleyball Courts (HEC, DeBot, Allen) 1. Open Recreational use is first come, first served when not reserved by a group. 2. Reservations for class, athletics, IMs, camps, etc. should be directed to the HEC Facilities Director. 3.
