FUN Outdoor Games & Activities In this day and age, it's hard to get the family outside when everyone seems to be glued to a phone or computer screen. These outdoor games and activities are a great way to get the kids outside to enjoy nature and learn about their surroundings. Go on a scavenger hunt, learn to identify trees, or play nature bingo. With so many options, it's easy to choose something the whole family will enjoy! Remember to be safe! Always be aware of your surroundings and watch out for cars or other methods of transporation that might be in your area. What You Will Need Hammermill Paper Highlighter, Pens or Markers Something Sturdy to Write on for Your Walk Our Printed Checklist and Game Templates

FUN How Many Trees on Your Block The name of the game, "How Many Trees on Your Block?" might seem quite obvious. But the answer is harder than you think! We've come up with a few different versions so that you can keep the game fresh, and to appeal to different ages. The game you choose can depend on the age and abilities of those taking a walk, and where you live. Make sure to choose a game that matches your surroundings and the attention span of your walkers. Let's Get Started 1 Basic: Your Side of the Street When you walk out the front door turn right and walk to the corner. Starting at the corner, count the trees on your side of the street until you reach the far corner at the other end of your street. 2 Basic Plus: Both Sides of the Street This is the same as the Basic version, but at the far corner, cross the street and walk back to count the trees on both sides of your block. 3 Roundabout For this one, start counting trees on your side of the street as soon as you leave your home. When you get to the corner, turn right and keep walking and counting. When you get to the far corner of that street, turn right again and keep counting. At the end turn right again and count some more. One more right turn and you're on your way home. Keep counting until you get back to your front door. 4 Level Up Once you've counted the trees on the route around your block, the next challenge is to try to count how many kinds of trees there are. You may want to look on the internet to see what kinds of trees live in your region to make it easier to tell them apart. 5 Alternates Some city blocks might only have a tree or two. That makes for a pretty quick game. In urban environments you might need to find a substitute for trees to make the game interesting. You could choose fire hydrants, mailboxes, cars or anything else that will grab the interest of those playing. Similarly, those in arid rural areas without trees might want to choose something else to count. Some rural residents in lush environments might have the opposite problem - too many trees to count! In that case, try counting birds, or furry animals. It all depends on what surrounds you.

Outdoor Games: The Nature Guide Checklist Here is guide and checklist to learn types of trees while enjoying the outdoors. FUN Creative Thinking Get inspired by nature and use a tree as your writing muse. Let's Get Started Turn the walk into a writing exercise. During your walk take a picture of a tree that strikes you as having a strong personality. When you get home, write a short story from the perspective of the tree. The short story could literally be about perspective and how the tree's view changes as it grows. It could be about the struggles of its life, or all the things it has seen over the years - it's up to you! What You Will Need Hammermill Paper Pen, Pencil or Marker

FUN Nature Walk Bingo Can you find all of the items in our nature walk bingo? Let's Get Started Here's an easy game for everyone. There are 6 unique gameboards to use.
