McGuff is the first coach to lead Xavier to four consecutive postseason appearances in his/her first four years at XU and the 80 wins accumulated in his first three years are the most by any XU coach in their first four seasons. McGuff s record at Xavier now stands at 80-42 (.656). McGuff Moves Up A-10 Charts Fifth year head coach Kevin McGuff is bolting up a couple of lists after leading XU to an 11-5 Conference record this season. McGuff is in ninth place on the alltime Atlantic 10 winning percentage list (regular season games only). McGuff has a record of 43-21 in A-10 regular season games since the 2002-03 season for a winning percentage of.672. Joe McKeown and Dawn Staley are the only other two active A-10 coaches with better winning percentages in regular season play. McGuff now sits in 15 th place after just four seasons on the A-10 wins list (regular season games only) with 43. Xavier Picked to Finish Third The Musketeers were selected to finish third in the Atlantic 10 in a vote by A-10 coaches and media. GW was picked to finish first and received 13 first place votes. XU was second in that category with three first place votes. Below is the complete poll. 1. George Washington (13) 2. Temple (2) 3. Xavier (3) 4. Saint Joe s 5. Charlotte 6. Richmond 7. Dayton 8. Granderson, a 2005-06 All A-10 First Team pick, was selected as a 2006-07 Preseason All A-10 First Team honoree. Green was selected to the Preseason All A-10 Third Team. About Ashland Ashland finished the 2005-06 season with a 21-11 record and a 13-4 mark in GLIAC. The Eagles lost to Grand Valley State in both the GLIAC Final and in the First Round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Eagles return four starters including leading scorer Amber Rall (17.8 points per game). Xavier s Fourth WNIT Appearance The Musketeers are 3-4 all-time in the WNIT and have won three of their last four WNIT contests. Xavier is 1-0 all-time in Second Round WNIT games as XU downed Indiana State 79-70 in last year s second round. Below is Xavier s WNIT History. Xavier is 4-4 in March over the last two seasons. No Fun on Sunday The Musketeers have struggled when playing games on Sunday this season. XU is just 3-5 this year when playing on Sunday and 3-4 in A-10 Sunday games. Conversely, XU is 12-0 this season when playing on Friday and is 7-0 in A-10 games played on Friday. A Couple of Streaks Staying Alive Xavier has not lost conecutive home games since it dropped a 74-72 decision to No. 22 Maryland on December 4, 2004; a span of 28 home games. In fact, that loss to Maryland marked the last time Xavier had lost consecutive games regardless of the setting. Xavier has not lost consecutive games in a span of 58 games. That marked the sixth time Xavier has won at least 10 Atlantic 10 games since the team joined the league prior to the 1995-96 season (11th season). It also marked the seventh time ever that XU has won at least 10 conference games. Xavier went 11-5 in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference during the 1992-93 season, marking the only other time XU has won at least 10 games in a conference season. 20 Win Notes Xavier won its 20th game of the season on February 26 vs. Dayton. The win marked the ninth 20-win season in the history of the program. It also marked XU s second consecutive 20-win season and the Musketeers sixth 20-win season in the last eight years. Xavier posted 20 regular season wins for the first time since the 2000-01 season. That team registered 25 wins during the regular season. Home Wreckers Xavier had won 19 home games in-a-row before its 67-62 loss vs. Temple on 1/22. The Owls had also ended No. 9 Rutgers 19 game home winning streak on 1/19. Additionally, Temple snapped Xavier s 11 game home winning streak vs. A-10 Eight 20-Win Seasons XAVIER vs. Ashland November 7, 2006 Exhibition #1 competition. 2006-07 XAVIER WOMEN S BASKETBALL TEAM ROSTER No. Name Yr. That marked the quickest XU has reached 10 wins since the 2000-01 team accomplished the feat in 11 games. New Magic Number The standard of 80 points had stood as a key to a Xavier victory as the Musketeers won 39 straight when scoring 80 or more from 1999-2002. But since Kevin McGuff has taken over, a new magic number has been established. Xavier has gone 48-3 (.941) in three+ seasons under McGuff when scoring at least 70 points. XU s only losses when scoring 70+ points were an 82-79 overtime loss at Richmond on 1/5/04, a 74-72 loss to No. 22 Maryland on 12/4/04 and the 76-72 loss at Charlotte on January 3. XU is 25-2 over the last two seasons when scoring 70 or more points. XU Gets Consecutive Wins Xavier won consecutive games for the first time since 12/30 when it defeated Duquesne on 1/29. Xavier has not won or lost consecutive games since the Musketeers defeated Robert Morris, for their third consecutive win, on December 30, 2005.
