GREEN DRAGON BOWMEN 6 th Aug 2013 The Station, Knebworth Attendance Denise Carpenter, Mark Carpenter, John Bacon, Diane Bacon, Gary Bellamy, Ian Freeman, Catherine Williams, Nina Freeman, Susan Hook, Paul Hook, Derek Ingle, Tina Hanslow. Apologies Ian Larke, Gaynor Hutchison. Dave Leader, Carl Joslin. Chairman s Report Welcome and hope you are enjoying the good weather. Secretary s Report From the last meeting Gary and I had a meeting about the Friends and Family fun shoot and the emails have gone out. I will leave it to Gary to let you know how it s going. Regrettably I have not finished combining the two sets of shooting rules. It s a bigger job than I had anticipated. As you know we held an EM for juniors and their parents/guardians. It all went very well. Only two parents and their children attended but I believe we have their support. I have also received two further acknowledgements from parents who were unable to attend who have pledged their support. A copy of the minutes of the meeting has been sent out to the committee by DB and I have sent out a copy to all the juniors and their parents for their reference. A copy has been placed on the website and filed with this month s minutes. We have been advised by Odyssey that we will not be able to go indoors until 03/10/13 as they have a function in the hall on the 26/09/13 I didn t feel that this was a problem. I have booked Odyssey for the 500 shoot. It will be held on Sunday 10 th November 2013. I booked Keith and Tracey at the Windsor and so will now ask Jo to confirm the date with them and raise the entry form. Outdoor coaching will finish on Thursday12 th September 2013 and indoor coaching will begin again at Knebworth School on Wednesday 2 nd October 2013. I will send out email informing everyone of these dates. I have received the annual renewal paperwork from Archery GB and will send the letters out when I come back from my holiday. I have received the following applications for membership: Rhys Harry (Junior) Mr Mike Grove Mrs Nova Grova They all took part in the June beginners course. (Committee agreed)
Treasurers Report 6 th August 2013 Last year s accounts were audited by Simon Blewett. Misc.errors corrected. Principally two cheques not cashed from the previous year, meant the club had 148 more in the bank than anticipated. Here are the definitive transactions since the AGM Income (Main Items since last meeting) Membership 338 Beginners 360 Have A Go 387 Expenditure (Main Items since last meeting) Stationary 65 Equipment 358 Buildings 2000 YTD Income 3893 Expenditure 3602 Surplus 291 Equipment Officer 2 new Junior bows (arrows with suckers on) for tinies at Have A Go s additional arrows for these have also been purchased. Buildings Officer Not present A date needs to be set for the restoration work to be completed. IL also reported that last Sunday the main hut was again left locked with just the padlock. Whilst there had been a couple of new archers there that morning there had also been some very established archers. He has suggested we change the lock to a combination lock with the same number as the main hut? This would mean that we are not reliant on people remembering to use the key. He thinks that we could get a lock for about 50 and it would be straightforward to fit.
Committee earmarked weekend of 28 th /29 th September for hut restoration and agreed for a combination lock to be purchased for the main equipment hut. County Representative I attended the County Meeting held on 29 th July. At the County Championships held on 7 th July at the Princess Helena College, near Hitchin. 11 Rose awards were claimed and 1 six gold end. The event made a surplus of over 600! The venue was excellent an even field and reasonably sheltered, although on the day it was so hot we would have welcomed a bit of a breeze. The only issue was the position of the toilet facilities which meant those of us at the nearest end of the shooting line sometimes caught sight of people walking up the edge of the field to get there. There were also only two toilets available. Tony Ferguson expressed his disappointment that so few offered any assistance in the setting up and clearing away mentioning Green Dragon Bowmen in particular as the nearest club to the venue. I think there were only four of us who entered the competition and unfortunately none were able to assist on the day before. Lack of support for events is not a unique problem to County and there followed some discussion about how to improve things in the future. One suggestion was to offer some remuneration if a club would take responsibility for organizing one of the competitions. At present Stortford Archery Club organize the Indoor Championships held at the Odyssey in November, and they have also just taken on organizing the County Western, which has now moved to the 8 th September at the Stortford venue. And Abbey organize the Indoor County Championships that take place in February. For discussion: Would GDB be willing to organize next year s County Championships assuming they are at the same venue, which is nearby, in return for some remuneration? If so, what level of remuneration would be adequate? Other matters: Beds vs Herts match was held at the Bedfordshire County Championships on 4 th August. Hertfordshire won in all disciplines: Recurve, Compound, Longbow and Juniors. It is assumed that the Tri-Counties match (Herts, Bucks and Berks) will not be happening again this year as there is no organizer. County Clout no venue yet. Herts vs Middlesex match (March 2014) needs a venue. Looking at Odyssey and Princess Helena College. County Website they need someone to update the website. Coaching Tony Ferguson is organizing a course in October for those wishing to become County/Level 2 coaches. The cost is 330 per candidate. It was noted that there were no Juniors from Hertfordshire at the recent National Talent Selection. Tony Ferguson is involved in this. Applications can be made on the Archery GB website. It s a 12 month programme and is wide open this year 140 Juniors took part ranging from those who had only recently done a beginner s course to those who had been shooting for their Counties.. The Committee were unhappy at remarks passed at this meeting on two counts firstly that our County Representative was put in an embarrassing situation of hearing her
club being criticised and secondly there were no thanks extended for our equipment lent to them for use on this occasion. Records Officer On holiday Susan Hook has achieved Longbow gold. DC has more badges to be given out regarding Classifications/Warwick Scheme. Tournament Officer Not present.
